Muhsin Muhammad a Texan?

Texans Praising Muhammad?

If unsubstantiated rumors are running rampant, it must be the offseason. RotoWorld.com, a fantasy sports website, is reporting that the Texans, along with the Giants, have interest in signing Panthers wide receiver Muhsin Muhammad, assuming the veteran receiver is cut before a $10 million roster bonus is due to him in early March. The site speculates that Muhammad is likely to sign with the highest bidder.

It is not yet a given, however, that Muhammad is free to seek offers from other teams. According to ESPN.com, Panthers general manager Marty Hurney and Muhammad's agent, Joel Segal, will convene next week in Alabama prior to the Senior Bowl to discuss renegotiating the roster bonus and final year on Muhammad's contract before he is released.

Muhammad, who will turn 32 in May, is seeking big dollars following the best season of his nine-year career in 2004, a year in which he led the entire NFL in both receiving yards (1,405) and receiving touchdowns (16).

Despite his age and history of injury, Muhammad could be targeted by the Texans as a possible replacement for unrestricted free agent Corey Bradford. Coincidentally, Texans head coach Dom Capers was the Panthers' head coach when Carolina selected Muhammad in the second round of the 1996 draft.

What do you think about this?? I personally would love a veteran addition. He made the probowl this year and certainly is a million times better than Bradford, but would we pay him enough to make a Texan? He will command a lot of money.

I would be surprised if the Texans put up big money for a WR. I think he'd make a nice #2, but is that what he's looking to be?

I would equate his effect on the offense to that of Marcus Robinsons effect on the Minnesota offense. A second big WR that can catch and opens up the field. Gaffney and Armstrong would still be good slot recievers. The OL still has to improve for Muhsin to have this effect on the offense.

He'd be a good addition, but I wouldn't pay him too much...He's 32 and, despite this season's numbers, he may be entering the twilight of his career...With the season he has had, he will command a lot of money, and I'm not sure that it will be money well spent...

I wouldn't having him on the team. Good go to guy who hardly ever drops a ball. I don't think he will leave the Panthers, since he played his entire career there. He will most likely restucture his deal with them.

have to agree with ya here.

If the Texans are going to drop some cash on a Free Agent, I personally think it needs to be on the Defense or on a Line Man.

A little older news, but just another viewpoint...

Panthers | Muhammad’s Future Unknown - from www.KFFL.com
Mon, 3 Jan 2005 13:40:49 -0800

The Associated Press reports Carolina Panthers WR Muhsin Muhammad might have played his last game for Carolina. Muhammad will receive a $10 million roster bonus for 2005 if the team activates the final year of his contract. It's unlikely that Carolina will issue the bonus, but the team did say Monday, Jan. 3, they will attempt to renegotiate Muhammad's contract to keep him there. "We've expressed to him that we would love to have him back," Panthers general manager Marty Hurney said. "And he's expressed to us that he would like to be here if it all works out." Muhammad said: "I think I did everything that I set out to do and left it all on the table, so at this point, hopefully we can come to some sort of agreement."

:howdy: I hate to beat a dead horse but, why dream of wideouts when we have the best young reciever in the game and can't find the time to get him the ball . It appears to me our WRs are fine. Gaffney was the 3rd ranked WR. coming out of Florida when he was drafted .
We used a 1st round pick on A.J. and Gaffney slipped into round 2 for us. If you remember our QB was the first player picked. We have also used two 2nd rounders on Hollings and Joppru. Thats two 1st rounders and three 2nd rounders on skill positions .
We look alot worse than we are because of theres no time to throw. Could you shoot a duck if it flew 200 MPH ? Could you solve the Wheel of Fortune if you only had 2 seconds between spins ? If you answer no then you can pity Carr. :coolb:

Let's remember this is the year we start competing for the playoffs and getting talent of this nature is where we can do that. getting our needs through the draft can help to keep us at a winning pace.

i think CC and co. would rather get burress before muhsin. reports are saying he doesnt want to resign with the steelers also. what do yall think about him?

yeah i'm sure with all the time the OL gives carr, he will do us a lot of good. We have some really good recievers as it is, what we really need is an offensive line that will provide carr protection so we can actually utilize our WR !

Not Burress. Read this. LINK

I think WR is should be last on our list of needs...

i believe the thread was about the thoughts of acquiring a WR on the free agent market. i was putting in my 2 cents of who i belive we would rather go after. lets see how the line turns out this year before we start making changes.

help me understand. he does not want to be there.

He has a ***** attitude and all he basically talks about is poor little old me, I don't get the ball enough. And the thread was about acquiring a WR. That's why I said I think WR is not one of our needs right now.

no point in getting another WR if we have no O-Line to protect carr long enough to get them the ball !

I said that exact same thing in another post, and even if Carr had all of the time in the world, I would not change our WR lineup except for Bradford.

i think every receiver wants the ball because they believe they can do something with it. marvin harrison wants the ball, i think gaffney even told carr he wanted more balls thrown his way. was corey dillons attiude bad when he was in cincy? now look at him. im not saying i want to get him, but just another alternative to mushin.

im tired of hearing about the damn oline and how they cant protect for crud :hairpull: from year 1 to year 2 was a huge upgrade, then we changed it all around with only 2 guys in the same postion but then they had to learn a new scheme. can we wait until next offseason before we start saying we need to get an offensive lineman?

Burress has a bad attitude and Mushin is too old...If we're gonna sign a big name guy, it should be Bubba Franks...

we problably could, i mean after we're looking for a new QB cause Carrs NFL career is over because of the Lack of protection he gets, and finally THEN we can say we need to find an offensive linemen. :shocked

or you can put a rookie on the line again and see what happens next. maybe we will be looking for a QB then too...

having a rookie oline man works both ways

Our blocking scheme for the passing game stayed the same, the zone blocking change only affected our run blocking.

i swear some of the people on this board have no idea about what they are talking about lol, and san deigo did just fine this season and they had 2 rookies on the line.

I will put it like this, the Falcons switched to the zone blocking scheme this season, and they LED THE NFL IN RUSHING YET ALLOWED THE MOST SACKS IN THE NFL IN THE '04 SEASON. To me that is an unthinkable stat, and it scares the hell out of me and makes me think of our last 2 games of the season... :hmmm:

Falcons also have three above avg. back in Dunn, Duckett, and Vick ofcourse. If im not mistaken they all had about 700-800 yards on the season.

What's more unthinkable is that the commentators on Sunday's game were praising the o-line coach, talking about how great of a job he's done...

Without Vick, they are a middle-of-the-pack rushing team who allowed the most sacks in the NFL...Great job o-line coach!

You are right, personally I do not think Vick is all that, he's basically a RB at QB because if you take away his running abilities like Philly did, he does nothing, his passer rating Sunday was 45.5. I just wish we could get our O line to perform like Denver's...

have you heard of san diegos oline coach?

i would avoid making comments about me not knowing what i say.

do people on this board know what patience is? you put another rookie on the line and its going to get alot worse. leave the line alone unless you get depth. im willing to give the line this upcoming season before i say they are worthless starters.

No one said they are worhtless, but do you realize how much money is tied up in the O line right now? For what we are paying these guys Carr should at least get DECENT protection. And like truefan said, San Diego had 2 rookies on their O line this season and look what Brees did....

It's kinda hard to be patient with an o-line that would constantly be beat by 4 man rushes...

Hell, we had a 7-man max protect front, and we were still getting beat by 4 man rushes...I'm still having nightmares of that...

Having said that, I think the line will play solid this next year with Wand and Pitts' added experience...The only place I would upgrade is center...

i do believe we need to upgrade the center position but i just dont see that happening this season, especially through the draft.

i was being defensive about the left side where wand and pitts are. i feel very strongly about them improving next season.

I agree about the left side, I would love to see Wand stay in there as a starter, I am not sure what it is about him, I don't know much about what he did last season, but I would like to see him continue to start.

People don't realize that Pitts had never played guard prior to this season, despite that being what he was projected to play in the pros...He showed flashes of brilliance this year though...He appears to be one of our best run blockers...

Wand was a project from the beginning...He has great size and good foot movement, but lacks experience look for him to improve by leaps and bounds, or we'll be upgrading in 2006...

Also, remember that our backs averaged more YPC to the left side of the field this year, so maybe those guys aren't that bad :hmmm:

If we get a choice (I doubt we will) between Mushin and Plaxico, I would go with Plaxico. Large, fairly fast and younger. Mushin I would pass on. To old and a history of injury. Only way he would work IMO, would be a 2-3 year contract at most and for fairly low dollar amount which I doubt he would take. I don't see Plaxico as to much of a headcase. Sure he wants the ball, all good WR do and if you look at this years numbers, they are VERY low. He should have double those numbers at least. The issue would be that we have AJ and could use/need a good #2 to draw attention away, but to make it work we would need to throw the ball more and that doesn't seem to be what we are wanting to do. To throw the ball DC needs time which means a more solid O-line. I see the O-line being addressed mostly through FA at center and RG with a pick or two for development in the draft. Late 3s or second day development type picks are what I would expect. If we upgrade the O-line and get someone like Plaxico we would be very strong on offense particularly if Jopprue works out or we spend some dollars on a TE. We would then be a real complete offense. Naturally it isn't a binary type of thing and we would need to address the Defense. However, draft picks would work better there as they are able to come in and play easier than the offensive rookies can.

:howdy: So in order of need.
1. Interior lineman offense (Good thing Mckinneys talk shows out of season)

2 Defensive line help If QB gets time . Well you know

3 Depth at RB , LB, TE, CB ,WR and OT. I would take a CB or a LB if one was to good to refuse at 13.

The opinions you see do not reflect anybody but me and me only. I had a se'ance and talked to Vince Lombardi and he said not sign free agent WRs.

so what are you saying that rookies cant come in and make a big impact. Look at J. Vilma with the jets or even D.Rob with us. Some rookies can step in a do a good job, while others need time. And i still dont think drafting a few late round OL would be a bad idea, atleast they could give the starters a fight, and maybe light a fire under some of the guys, so they'll start doing their jobs !

:howdy: Rookies can start on the OL or anywhere else. Is this the best situation nope but it can happen.
The Broncos went a long way with Rod Smith at one WR and Ed Mcaffrey at the other. This was caused by the fact that they could run the ball and pass block . The Redskins won 3 Super Bowls with 3 different QBs (The Hogs). The Ravens won a Super Bowl with Trent Dilfer and Tony Banks at QB(Jonathon Ogden LT). The Rams had an arena league QB after their starter blew out his knee (Orlando Pace LT).
At the end of the day you can plug in subs or scrubs if you have an OL. I'm thinking if CC is convinced he has the talent in place he will not go OL. If he does'nt they'll trade down and draft one. The draft will tip his hand on what he sees. I'll bet it won't be a fast skinny guy who catches passes.
How many QBs would you draft in front of Anthony Munoz ? :hmmm:

i'm sure whatever Charile and Capers think we need they will get. They are dedicated to winning, and i know they will do whats best for this organization whether its replace carr (HOPE NOT) get rid of A.J (doubtful) or cut Robinson (thats funny) ! But they know what they are doing and just have faith that it all works out next season, and we're in the play-offs !

:howdy: To bad about your Dad Texan Fan. I'm truly sorry. My whole point is that the object is to build a team. A team is not just a QB or a RB . Its the sum of all parts. Look at the Patriots . That is a team built with many different parts . Tom Brady was a sixth round pick . This is no slight to Carr but he will only be as good as the parts around him.
I agree CC is the man.To this point he has taken some chances. If they would have turned into great picks he would be called genuis. I still like Carr,AJ, DD,Dunta,Babin .Not only do they have talent they just keep on coming at you.I like Gaffney,Armstrong ,Peek and Earl.Their time is coming.
Joppru,Hollings ,Pitts,Wand, and Brown could turn it around next year and be solid players they have talent. I think thats 14 players with 3 years or less experience. :coolb:

thanks Honoring Earl 34 yeah its a hard time for my family.

But we are a young team that has a lot of young blood. At least we're not loaded with vets like the mistake Capers made with Carolina. And i know there are so many parts to a team that all need to work in order to have success ! And i feel we are on our way there ! My dad never understood why i liked them so much, i know now, its cause they have heart and fight when theirs nothing left to fight for !

I forgot to mention Wade, Robaire Smith, Sharper, Glenn and Wong.
They also have a good kicker and punter.Wells is a good player to have because of his special teams play and backup RB ability. So really were not that bad off. Leon from the Bud ads is still ought there.
