With the 255th overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft, the New England Patriots selected TE Andy Stokes (William Penn) to be this year's "Mr. Irrelevant," according to the Associated Press. For being the final pick in the draft, Stokes wins a trip to Newport Beach, Calif. for the 30th annual Mr. Irrelevant Week, a celebration which begins Monday, June 20. Stokes will attend banquets, take part in a parade, and be presented with the Lowsman Trophy, the Mr. Irrelevant Week's answer to the Heisman Trophy.

Kinda mean aint it heh.

I don't get why this is mean or why he should be embarassed. The guy was selected ahead of a former heisman winner, a former All-American, a couple guys who broke NCAA records. Plus this guy will be remembered for ages. Who remembers the pick right before Mr. Irrelevant? No one. But at least this guy's name will forever be etched somewhere.

Do you remember who was mr. irrelevant last year or the year before? :hmmm:

No, my life doesnt revolve around the NFL draft, so it really doesnt matter to me. The fact of the matter still remains, this guy that noone has ever heard of was picked ahead of College Football's "MVP" in 2003, A guy who was dubbed one of the best at his position with an All-American selection last year(Shazor) and guys who broke NCAA records. This guy will also get his name on the Draft show every year for at least the next 5 years with the other last picks.

Last years "Mr. Irrelevant" was Andre` Sommersell drafted by Oakland. Now there are two "Mr. Irrelevants" still in the NFL and Starting. They are SS Mike Green (2000) Chicago and FB Jim Finn of NYGiants (drafted by Chicago). I think Chicago knows how to pick the last one. Houston picked "Mr Irrelevant" in the 2002 draft, Ahmad Miller DT, We also picked Number 1 "David Carr".

its not mean cause he was the last guy picked :).. he should be proud that he was even selected in an NFL draft.. whats mean is that they call him "Mr. Irrelevant" hehe.

That is like getting hired by a company and them making your job title "Senior Director of im getting fired in three weeks"

Some teams should adopt the Military Plan, that is do away with the draft and ask for volunteers....They would probadly do better :woot
