Most surprising, negative or positive for Texans since 2020 season ended?

Easterby did what he was hired to do and frankly these longtime employees needed to be let go since the attitudes they had were part of the reason the team/org has been mediocre at best since the teams inception. Keep them around and it would have been more of the same old same old mediocrity. Personally I'm glad Cal made these types of moves. Why? because if they dont workout chances are the McNair's carpetbagging azzez will either sell the team, or the team will become an afterthought in this city. A long overdue correction was needed. Since 2010 to be exact. Easterby is nothing more than a sympton of the real issues down on Kirby.
You already had your mind made up and your bag of excuses at the ready (although weaker than usual) before I even posted a response to your question. Maybe you could use the services of your own counselor and spiritual advisor to help guide you through this upcoming mother of all Texans FUBARS. :)

Whoa, whoa... slow down. He’s baiting.

Far as we know Easterby does not have the power to fire anyone. Well, at that time. The complaint about Gaine came from outside the organization. Cal responded.

Amy Palcic made a spectacle of herself, Kyle responded.

We don’t know what role Easterby had in either case. Any claim otherwise is speculation.
Amy told the entire sports world that it was Jack Easterby who fired her. Why do you think the entire sports journalism fraternity came after Easterby en masse? Jack Easterby is the Executive Vice President of Football Operations and he can't fire anyone?

I doubt Easterby fired Amy without Mrs McNair's okay.

Yes my mind has been made up. The McNair's are bad owners and whether this works out (Hopefully) or not this decision will facilitate change in the Texans org.

You're mind is also made up. You think Caserio is going to be a failure and he hasn't even had a full compliment of draft choices yet.

Easterby was hired to do a thorough review of the entire Texans org. Including both the FO/On the field. He dug up the dead bodies and reported his findings to Cal and Cal took action. Other than the fact that Cal chose making $$$$ on the Pervert rather than doing the right thing.

Well Caserio can always do something to change my mind. Caserio technically did have more than a full compliment of draft choices (7), 8 picks. He turned those 8 draft picks into 10 draft picks in order to draft 5 players. Delegating the first picks in the draft to a journeyman position coach was another major head scratcher. That draft performance established a pattern of behavior and operation that scares the hell out of me for future Caserio drafts. Caserio's first draft gave me the understanding of why Bob Kraft threw Caserio under the bus for the last half decade of poor Patriot drafts. After Caserio's first Texans draft is when Kraft's draft comments all began to make sense. Believe what your eyes and ears are telling you, not what you WANT to believe or HOPE will happen.

No 1st/2nd rd draft picks and he had a full compliment of draft picks? BTW, I like the last draft and I think Caserio will find a couple of starters out of it. Obviously you dont feel this way. What were your expectations for this draft? Caserio took a couple of chances on guys that are very talented but didn't play much football last yr due to Covid. This is a perfectly reasonable risk to take since he was missing his top 2 draft picks. He took chances on guys that would've probably gone in rd 1 or 2 at worst if they had played a full season.

I'm sure he watched alot of film on Mills and saw potential in Mills. (I know I see potential in Mills) Well worth taking a chance on a guy like this in the 3rd rd. I'm also sure he used Pep's connections with Shaw to get even more info. Do you not trust Shaw is what this really all comes down too.

I like the Collins pick too. He tore up the Sr Bowl practices after sitting out a yr. He also according to reports looked great in OTA's. The dude is very talented and is the big bodied/Contested catch guy that posters on this MB have been wanting since the Perverts mentor was traded. BTW, McDaniels in addition to Pep clued Caserio in on Collins.

My expectations were not to use 10 draft picks to draft 5 players for starters. When you're rebuilding you're suppose to draft more players not less. I've been clear that IMO you rebuild from the inside out, Meinerz on the OL and Brown and Togiai on the DL. If Caserio picks can't start on this team, they can't play in the NFL.

Oh I trust Shaw, boy do I trust Shaw. Much like I trusted Spurrier when he said Clowney was lazy. When Shaw said Mills was "FAIRLY" accurate, not accurate but "FAIRLY" accurate, I listened to what my ears were hearing. I went and watched 6 Davis Mills games and believed what my eyes were seeing, I knew exactly what Shaw meant when he said Davis Mills was "FAIRLY" accurate. Now why would Coach Shaw say "FAIRLY"? And that's being "FAIRLY" accurate in college, not the NFL.

I suppose a guy who has only started 11 games in his collegecareer cant be FAIRLY judged or improve his footwork to be more than FAIRLY accurate? Do you think Shaw recommended Caserio select Mills? From what I've read Shaw said Mills was only scratching the suface of his talent. Clowney also wasn't lazy. He hurt his knee on the crappy turf and wasn't the player he could've been. BOB rushing Clowney out to play on a bad knee certainly didn't help matters. Clowney still has had a productive career. Just not the Career we all hoped he would have. If Caserio had to bunch picks together to get a couple of starters (Collins/Jordan) I've got no problem with this. I guess it comes down to how many starters you think the Texans could get out of this draft. I dont have a problem with the Mills pick and I hope Caserio not only continues to pick QB's until he finds his guy, but he continues to pick QB's to develop every 2-3 yrs after he finds his guy. Like the Packers model.

i like NC’s draft too. Like his third and fourth round picks. NC explained his draft and made the trades to get the players he wanted, not those that would fall to him and wouldn’t move the needle this year anyway. With the Texans getting early dubs on the waiver wire he will find better players than in those later rounds.

Anyone who is a who's who in the world of Sports Journalism put the blame squarely on Jack Easterby. Sports Illustrated did a cover story on Jack. Never before has sports journalism circled the wagons to character assassinate and destroy an individual like they did Jack. Amy was buddies with them all because she was in charge of public relations. Rest assured Amy confided in them and who was responsible for her demise. The Texans were in damage control mode doing some CYA (lying). Putting the blame on Rootes to cover for Easterby maybe a main reason why Rootes left shortly after this recent episode of another Texans FUBAR episode.

But Rootes did the actual firing at Cal's behest.

Ok but if Mrs McNair told Cal told Easterby to fire Amy...Amy may not know...

Another point, Easterby had his character assassinated on this board.

Easterby firing Palcic would be like O'Brien firing Jamey Roote. Yes, O'Brien had a prominent position in the organization. But he's never been in a position to fire Roote. Totally different branches of the organization.

Easterby could fire the equipment guy, the trainers, the grounds keeper, but not the VP of Communications.

He replaced BOB as enemy #1 down on Kirby and the Pervert gladly put more heat on Easterby to try to take the heat off of himself. Luckily like most things the truth is slowly coming out what was really going on at all levels down on Kirby.

Jack Easterby must have mind control powers over everything in the Houston Texans org, in your mind. Or Easterby was simply doing the job the McNair's hired him to do. Which is more likely?

We do know that Easterby was connected with the Caserio tampering charges back in 2019. The Texans fired Gaines a day after Easterby was at the Patriots ring ceremony, where he was seen talking to Caserio.
We also know Bob McNair tried to hire Caserio before Easterby was hired. Bottom line is if Cal really wanted Easterby he should've paid the price Kraft/BB were asking. (A 1st rd pick) Looking back at what happened a 1st would've been a small price to pay. I said at the time Cal should've paid the price to get his guy. The decision Cal made will continue to haunt the franchise for another 3-5 yrs because it led to GM BOB.

None of this changes the fact that Bob Kraft thinks Nick Caserio did a poor job in preparing for the last 5 drafts Nick was with the Patriots. I happen to agree with Kraft and so do many other people.

Agree if you like. This is where we differ, I cant make that judgement right now. Apparently you think you can. BTW, Did Kraft make this statement while he was drunk coming out of a massage parlor? He had to blame somebody, might as well be Caserio. Truth is Kraft went against BB a couple of yrs ago and the Pats won a SB because of that decision. But this is the reason why the Pats org is where it's at today. I happen to agree with Kraft on this one and consider it a small price to pay for another ring.

There have been articles that have said BB didn't take advice from Caserio/Scouts on personnel matters. Time will tell

No Kraft made this statement not long after Eliot Wolf explained to him all the problems and faults with their free agent and draft board preparation and analyzation of the last 5 years. Which explains why Kraft, after Caserio was gone and Wolf was in charge, was so active in signing top tier FAs and had the best draft the Pats have had in a decade.

Why did easterby have to convince Cal McNair to hire caseiro? Nick has been wanted since Bob McNair.

Is it possible that easterby did convince Janice McNair to fire Amy? Yes it is also just as possible that he did not.

Read the first paragraph, you can't put it down.
Hey man, we both know why this franchise is what they are.

Everything else we talk about comes from a place of the blind squirrel theory. I'm more optimistic because whether you agree or not change is happening in the Texans org and hopefully Cletus gets this right. What are the odds, I say 40-60 you're like 10-90. (LMAO) I'm going to give them a couple of years before I could possibly get in the place you're in.
