Moss To Oakland

2-DUNTA-3

Practice Squad
just watching the accenture match play on ESPN...Tiger is doing well by the way, and mick is struggling....and on the bottom line they had breaking news that moss is going to be traded to oakland. they said following the match it would be on sportcenter.

Moss and Porter....might be great if they had a QB who could get it too them.

someone to throw the Damn ball! :thumbdown
Now all they need is Rickey Williams and we can nick name them the Blunt Brothers. lol

It's a story from the St. Paul Pioneer Press, and if they have Curry, Moss, Porter then they'll have a pretty prolific offense behind that OLine. Collins has a good arm, and he'll have plenty of targets to throw too. They just need a running game. Apparently the Vikes will get LB Napolean Harris, the 7th Overall pick, and a late pick in the 2005 draft.

St. Paul Pioneer Press

Damn, Al Davis worked his magic on this one. Joey Porter and Randy Moss, but I wonder if Daunte is gonna struggle now since he is losing his best WR now :hmmm:

This could make it difficult for us to get Lamont Jordan if we want him.. though Travis Henry may be just the kind of RB they like in Oakland.

(i say it will make it difficult cause they have traded their 1st away and if they want a good RB to start next season, they are probably gonna get one from FA)

I'm sure the Vikes are targeting a WR with the pick. Who? I don't know. But out of Edwards, Williams, & Williamson...someone will be available @ # 7.

Great trade for the Raiders. They're the only organization where Moss' influence won't be a negative. With Collins ability to throw the deep pass and Porter doing the heavy lifting over the middle, Moss is in position to have a monster season. For the short term, the AFC got a little better & the NFC got a little worse.

randy moss was traded to oakland for neopoleon harris the 7th overall pick and a late round pick all in this years draft...my guess is with the 7th overall pick the vikes will draft edwards or mike williams

Vikes fans are rabid .....
As a lions fan I should be happy about this.

But to see an entire fan base screwed over by a bad owner makes me mad

I am sure you Oiler fans can empathize with the vikes Fans.

I know the new owner, Fowler, wanted to keep Moss. It seems strange this is going down.

Yup. This is the one team Moss goes to where they might be a bad influence
upon him instead of vise versa. But for sure, life just got tougher for KC, SD, & Denver. But Moss is something special, one of the greatest deep threats ever as far as receivers go.

They're in between owners right now. The new owner said he wouldn't trade Moss, but looks like he wasn't able to do anything about it.

just announced...randy moss has been traded to the raiders for neopoleon harris, the 7th overall pick, and a late round pick in this years draft...IMO the vikes will be drafting either edwards or mike williams with the 7th overall

Sounds to me like the new owner didnt want the vikings fans hating him, so he had Red trade him before he sold the team. Now he can say he wanted to keep Moss, and still get his wish of trading him. It just doesnt make sense to me. :hmmm:

I wouldnt be surprised to see them use the 7th pick on something other than WR, since they have a 2nd first round pick, and could get Williamson.

They could get one of the big 3 RB's with #7.

I'm not sure they'd pick up a RB. There are rumors that Dennis Green is interested in acquiring Bennett from the Vikings since they have Williams/Moore/Smith. Their leading WR with Moss now gone is Nate Burleson, and I'm thinking they might lean towards defense with one of their 1st round picks. If I had to guess who they'd pick I'm betting they've got their eye on DJ to improve their LB corp. It is by far the weakest link on that defense. They've got Harris now, Claiborne, Thomas, and Henderson. Their LBs were torched by the Eagles, and I'm sure it hasn't gone unnoticed. Ever since Beikert retired they've been trying to replace him.

Bah, for some reason I was still thinking the Raiders were picking 7th. So im going to have to agree, that it should be a WR, or Defense.

If they could get one of the big 2, its a no brainer, but there will be alot of stud defensive players on the board.

Congrats, I think it was an awesome trade for the Raiders.

That would be like the Texans drafting Randy Moss in the first round, and giving up a late round pick, and Jay Foreman.

Any idea where this will leave Sapp? I heard rumors that he might be cut. Even though Moss is likely to restructure his contract with the Raiders I'm wondering if Davis might let Sapp go to free up some more room.

If we Cut Sapp it will hurt us more than keeping him.. im guessing he will be forced to restructure..

Sapp's contract is guarenteed, so there in no way he going anywhere.

I like that we got Moss, but I also liked all the moves we made last year, so I am going to keep my expectations in check this time. I think we need a pass rusher more then a RB for the next move "The Godfather" makes.

Good move for the raiders.
Vikes.. well they get a LB and a 1st rounder.. Looking at their Depth Chart.. I am thinking they are targeting either a LB or WR.. and will be suprised if they use a 1st round pick on defensive line given the last 2 years have been Williams and udeze....

Comparing Jay Foreman to Napolean Harris is like comparing kissing your Grandmother vs. kissing Halle Berry. The both have lips, but the comparison ends there. :hmmm:

Great trade for the Raiders imo. Oakland is probably best suited for a personality like Moss. I think Minn needs to come up aces with the #7 to make this an equitable trade, but it's possible, and there may also be a bit of "addition by subtraction" as well. As good as Moss was on the field, he was a major distraction off of it.

I stand corrected... maybe the vikes aren't targeting a LB in the draft(unless they shift to 3-4

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?columnist=clayton_john&id=1998272

The curious part about the acquisition is that the Vikings already have two Harris-type linebackers in E.J. Henderson and Dontarrious Thomas. They are young, big, mobile and aggressive. But the problem with youth is mistakes, and that's why Harris isn't a good fit.

On paper, the Vikings have one of the most athletic linebacking corps in the league with the addition of Harris. But Harris is more of middle linebacker and the Vikings already have Henderson manning that spot. Unless the Vikings are shifting to a 3-4 themselves, Harris' acquisition may put Henderson on the bench and that doesn't really help the defense.

and from the same article
The Vikings are entering a new era, the Culpepper era. Expect them to use the No. 7 overall pick they'll get from the Raiders to draft a big wide receiver such as Braylon Edwards or Mike Williams. The Vikings have enough shorter, lighter receivers with speed, so a big receiver would be a nice fit. Although after tipping their hand by trading Moss, they might have to move up to make sure they get one of those two receivers.

I honestly think Vikings got the better end of the deal. Their gonna get Edwards or Williams in the draft. They got the MLB settled now, bye bye EJ. They also have their first round pick, and another later round pick, and no more big huge ego/media freak Moss. Your telling me, you had the best receiver in the league, with a really good QB, for how long, and you coulden't even make it to the superbowl. Good riddens to Moss, and poor Oakland...

I think Oakland just got instantly better. And Moss will fit right in there. They're infamous for "character" players.

Napolean is no Ray Lewis my friend. He is no superstar. He was a starter on a bad '04 raiders team. They are not as far apart as you might suggest.

I dont think the Vikes are going WR in the draft. I see them taking Rolle, Pac-Man or Davis. They moved the ball when Moss was out with his hamstring injury. They need some defense.

minnesota did a great job of moving the ball offensively WITHOUT Randy's help. they need to pick up some big help on the defensive side.

If you look at the facts
They lost more games, and Culpepper threw 50% less TD's

And guess what, Red McCombs is still the owner.
And will be the owner when FA starts.

He will not spend money in FA.

OH and better still, the Vikes took a 9 million dollar cap hit and got bupkis for it.

How anyone can delude themself into thinking good can come of this, it's beyond me.

I feel bad for the Vikes fans, they are being held hostage by a madman.

I heard Chris Webber was real upset, Moss was coming to Cali. And Chris would finally have someone to roll and smoke blunts with. But he gets sent off to Philly.

Seemed Yesterday was a big moving day for both the NFL and the NBA.

I think they may go WR with their 2nd 1st Round pick, but I agree that they're targeting defense with their #7 pick. I think they're hoping DJ falls to them with a few offensive guys likely going early, but if he's not there they might take a CB or S or try and trade down to get more picks. Someone else mentioned they may try and take Williamson with their 2nd 1st Round pick, and I tend to agree. Another option is they may want to take a Miller as a TE if Williamson is gone, but I think they'd like to get him in the 20th to 25th pick range. Either way I hope they don't goof up their #7 pick like they did a couple of years ago when they attempted to complete a trade down but couldn't get it done in time. They ended up picking Williams at #9 instead of #7 so they still got "their guy", but didn't get anything for moving down two spots. Hire a clock watcher Tice.

Hovan's production fell off over the past couple of years and I hear he is gone. They need another DT next to Kevin Williams. I think they take a WR (whoever is left out of Braylon Edwards and Mike Williams after Chicago drafts one) with their 1st pick and a LB or DT with their second 1st rounder.

Did they pay the guy less because of he was picked at #9 instead of #7? Because when that happened, that was my first thought.

Too be honest with you I'm not sure. There's no doubt that Williams and his agent probably wanted #7 money, and the Vikes were probably trying to give him #9 money. However, since it was the Vikes mistake I'm thinking they might have paid him closer to #7 money.

I think its BS. Williams was drafted at #9, not #7. So why should you get #7 money? Its just like Rivers wanting #1 money, because he was traded to the team in the #1 spot.

Philip, you were drafted AFTER 3 players, so why should you get more than them? Same goes with Williams.

Seems like completely different situations IMO. Rivers was not drafted with the #1 pick--he was traded along with additional compensation for the guy drafted with the #1 pick. By definition, the trade valued him at less than the #1 because it included him plus other compensation. Williams on the other hand was drafted with the #7 pick. He was supposedly the guy they would have taken during their time on the clock but for the botched trade. Don't see how when the #7 pick got exercised should affect him.

Your information is false. He was selected with the 9th pick. When you use up all your draft time, and a team goes ahead of you, you lose that pick. So 2 teams went ahead of them, which pushed their pick back to #9. The #7, and #8 team passed on Kevin Williams, so why should get get #7, and #8 money?

"Selected with the 9th overall pick in the 2003 NFL Draft...Vikings' highest draft choice on defense since Chris Doleman."

Ummm, no. He was the 9th player selected but he was selected with the Vikings' original draft pick which was the 7th draft pick. Imagine the little numbered tags they have for people waiting in line--the Vikings had #7. They may have sat on their rears and let other folks go to the counter with higher numbers but when they got up to the counter they still turned in #7.

That is ridiculous. He was selected 9th overall. He was the 9th pick. That makes sense right? The Vikings didnt hold the 7th pick after Jax, and Carolina went up to the podium.

He was not selected 7th overall with the 7th pick. That makes sense right?

With your logic, Carolina could pay #8 pick, Jordan Gross, 9th pick money because they had the 9th pick. Get it?

I don't see what all the confusion is about over a technicality. The Vikings had the 7th pick in the draft, but failed to get their pick in on time. The subsequently took Kevin Williams, the 9th player selected in the draft, whom they said the'd was their man anyway. Is it really surprising that a team is trying to sign a player to the cheapest possible deal whereas the player and his agent are trying to get the most possible money they can? This isn't a new thing in the NFL.

For the group of people who think Randy Moss was traded because he has an attitude problem

The player they traded for Harris, also has an attitude problem

Chew on that.

The only problem I have with Moss is that he, by his own admission, takes plays off if he feels like it. He needs to grow up that's all. He's got all the talent in the world but he's got a 10 cent brain.
