Mort is on the Dan Patrick Show right now and he just said that the texans are doing their homework on the #1 picks of the past and their contracts with the salary cap situation. once that is done they will start negotiating with Bush and Williams. right now they are doing do diligence to see if anyone will give them an offer they cant refuse. But, he says no one seems to be buying into a trade.
Dan Patrick asked no one wants to get into the #1 sport? what about the jets who worked out bush? Mort said well that rumor is out there but from what he's heard they dont want to trade. the Texans have called the Jets 3 times to talk trade but each time the Jets have said not interested in trading.

Exactly the way I would play it as well. Segal is probably on the ophone to the Jets right now. Wouuld be very interesting to see who else Segal represents and of those who are still FA's.
 
I think we will be calling the 9ers soon with them grabbing the #22 pick from Denver today. I know the 9ers want Bush.
 
Niners have no interest in trading up. They have been wanting to trade down to get more talent to fill their multiple holes
 
Looks like that "Godfather" deal is not happening.

Calling three times, it looks like the Texans are panic-ing, and WANT OUT of the top spot.

The Texans are not drafting Reggie Bush.

Btw, the top Free Agents that Segal represents have already signed. The Big Free Agents that are left are all represented by the Postons(Law,Arrington, Woodson). Segal is not the problem. The deal Alex Smith got last year is the problem. Draft picks are slotted, and Segal is most likely asking for the standard slot based on Smith's money and that's a BIG SCARY number.

If the Texans are smart, and will be trading down, they better be doing it BEFORE the draft. You dont want on draft day to have to re-adjust your entire draft board. That might be the reason their panic-ing right now.
 
Didn't Mort say that the reason why they haven't negotiated with anyone yet is because they are doing their homework about past picks? I'd like to know where the idea that Reggie and his agent are being difficult came from.
 
Cardinal rule: If a team calls you 3 times wanting to know if you want to trade up to the top spot, you do NOT start by saying, 'Sure, here's the cupboard of draft picks, take your pick!'

The Jets WANT Reggie Bush, of that there is no doubt. They are unwilling to give a Vikings type deal, but they still want him. Remember - everything is about posturing. They WANT the Texans to panic and agree to a trade that is better for the Jets.

I still think the Texans are just posturing. They want Reggie, and will probably take him unless:

1) Reggie wants too much money; or
2) Someone backs the truck up and gives them a deal they can't refuse.
 
I think the Jets are going to stay where they are and pick whoever falls to them. I know that they love D'Brick, they love Cutler, they love Leinart, and they love Bush.
 
I'd agree that the Alex Smith contract is creating an issue here. Obviously, an agent for another player who is not likely to be picked No. 1 would have more incentive to cut a deal lower than the Alex Smith deal. If that's what is at work, it would not surprise me to see Mario be the man.
 
I think it is 60/40 Reggie v Mario right now, but Reggie is definately in the lead. If we do make a trade it will not be until draft day. We will pick Reggie and then make the trade only if Mario falls to the Jets at 4. Then we can make the appropriate trade which is both their first and next years first. So essentially two firsts and a second for our number 1. We may throw in a second day pick next year to sweeten the deal for them. Or send them a player, maybe Wade, Babin, or Buchananon. Ok the last guy was just having some fun they would not want him.

Correct. However it's bad if the front office doesn't study a situation long enough; it's bad if they perform due diligence.

Just think, it'll get worse after the draft when people are disappointed. I don't think a single pick has the support of a 51% majority here. Maybe Bush does. Pluralities aren't good - too many dissatisfied customers.

I think the customers would get over it as long as we win. The Eagles fans hated the Donovan McNabb pick...but they got over it quite well.

Yep. They wanted "Mr. Munchies" and they are probably glad they didn't get their wish.
 
It also turned out to be the better end of the stick.

I just think that The Texans are going to hold on to everything all the way up to the morning of. I think we are handling it fine because we caused people to want our pick a little bit more than before.

It's bad to part of the board if we hurry, bad to the rest of the board if we have patience.

I thought that is what you meant but I wasn't sure. Personally, I would like them to take their time. Ideally I would like to have him signed by the draft, but really he doesn't need to be signed until training camp which is in a few months. This is a major decision for both sides and you want to make sure that it is the best deal for both sides.
