Mocked up In Chicago I

awtysst

Draft Guru
I was sitting down talking to a coworker who is a huge Bears fan (I live in Chicago) and I was telling him how there are some in the Texans community who are strongly thinking about taking Vince Young. As we talked he asked if I would take the Bears number one pick this year for Carr. This is right around 25 or so right now. For the sake of the discussion I accepted the trade just to see the visual. This is what came out of it. And so based on my lunchbreak conversation I present to you: MOCKED UP IN CHICAGO I

Disclaimer: AWTYSST Does not neccesarily support the views thereby inferred from this Mock. Thank you.

One question. Why would the Ravens take Maroney in the first? Lewis is still a productive back for them, and they still have Taylor as a change of pace back. Seems like a first round pick would invest a lot of money in the RB position. IMO They might be looking at a QB in the first, but I'm not sure if they're ready to give up on Boller just yet (even though they should).

Wouldn't mind all that happening though, but pretty unlikely. It's nice to dream though:redtowel:

The thing is that Lewis has had a down year. I am not saying that he is all done but he he certainly did not seem to have the same explosivness that has characterized him for years. KC took Larry Johnson a couple of years ago when Priest Holmes was a stud RB. By taking Johnson they prolonged the career of Priest and gave them essentially a fresh back in every series. I think maroncy does this for the Ravens.

In terms of the trade it is not going to happen. But I think the picks for teams are generally pretty resasonable.

The thing to remember is that Holmes suffered a very severe injury toward the end of that season. He also contimplated retirement previous to the injury. The Chiefs had ample reason to take a RB in the first. They weren't sure Holmes would be able to return from the injury (the same kind that ended Bo Jackson's career), and they weren't sure if he'd have the heart to return.

Not quite so sure that Baltimore has the same concerns with Lewis as KC had with Holmes.

The Saints are going to take the best available QB and will not draft Bush.

I think that NO is going to model themselves as a run heavy team. They can do this to control the clock the way the Steelers do. In order to do this right, you need a blistering runnign attack. The Pittsburgh attack works well becuase you have Parker who is a speedy nimble back and Bettis who is a bruising knock people down between the LBS back. Deuce is the same kind of a power runnign back. If NO can pick up Bush they will instantly improve. they can sign a decent Qb and immedialty get better. Leinart is a good Qb, but if Bush is considered Sayers/Sanders/Payton all rolled into one, can NO really pass on him?

In order to have a heavy running game and ball control offense, a good defense is generally pretty essential too, and the Saints are far from that, plus they don't have a very good OLine to power such an attack. They have several burners at WRs, and they are now talking that Mike Martz may be interested in coaching the Saints, and if that happens you know he's going to want to throw the ball a lot with all that speed they have and will definitely be looking for an accurate QB like Leinart (I think Martz would take Leinart over Vince if both are available anyways). Deuce had been complaining about his number of carries last year, so I don't see much evidence that they are trying to go to a heavy running game, plus McAllister just signed a one of the highest RB deals in the league and I don't see them adding a #2 contract for Reggie Bush there as well, it would be far more expensive than the combo of Davis and Bush for our team.

AWTYSST, your telling me that Chicago would be willing to give the Texans their #1 draft pick for David Carr? and in this Mock Draft the Texans select Vince Young #1, the top guard in the draft Max Jea-Gilles and a top RT in Marcus McNeil? that would truely be outstanding, great Mock effort although it looks kinda similar to my own :hmmm: oh well they say that is the highest form of flattery :)

Nope. This was simple an exercise in theoretical thinking. My buddy who is a big Bears fans sees Carr as a good QB in a better system(and I agree with him). He offered the Bears first pick and I took it in order to see what could happen if that occured. This is not a mock based on what I think should occur but one based on what MIGHT occur if that were to happen. The bears had been dogged by not having a QB and my buddy was somewhat venting.

However, if you can get past the trade look at the rest of the mock. I think most picks are satisfactory for the teams picking and look at their specific needs. I think each pick addreses an area that can help each team. That is really what I was working on in this particular one. The REAL first mock is being worked on.

I like it anyways. my Mocks are bascily geared to address each teams most critical need while at the same time constructing a top 32 draft board. It would not surprise me for instance if some teams traded up for a given player, Bush or Young would be prime examples and that those players would progress along those same positional draft slots. the teams I worry less about cause you knows exactly what the heck some GM will wind up doing or grading out talent (example, travis johnson)
