Mock Texans Picks...

Ole Miss Texan

Hall of Fame
I'm starting this again...I keep flipping between AP and Defense for our first pick. if AP is there for us at 8 i think we should take him. In no way do i think we should trade up for anybody...trading down would be fine for me. For purposes here I am assuming AP is there for us..and looking at the rest of the draft from here.

1.Adrian Peterson RB Oklahoma (everyone knows him..)
2.Victor Abiamiri DE Notre Dame (is really impressing scouts at senior bowl stuff...could be 1st rder.)
3.Stewart Bradley OLB Nebraska (big guy that can take on blockers, SAM?)
4. Josh Wilson CB Maryland (will he be here or is this too high? proj. mid rder. dad blocked for earl cambell in houston)
5. Michael Johnson FS Arizona (will he be here? mid rder project..and we need a fs, playmaker w/ nose for the ball)
6. Ed McCarthy OL Yale (played every position on OL, received AP and Walter Camp 1st team all american..hope he's here)
7.D'Juan Woods WR Oklahoma St. (big guy..will he be here in 7th)

As you can probably tell I'm not sure where some players may go esp in the latter rounds. i think this addresses some of our needs with some playmakers that should start next season or the following.

Comments on those who know more about these players? Do you like the overall selections as far as positions per rounds? Remarks appreciated.

Not banging just pointing out OK ? Josh Wilson proved he could cover this week Not so sure he will make into day two. He got beat. But the cover tallent is there. The interesting pick in my book is who is going to gamble on McCauley ?

Good point. McCauley seems very inconsistent. morso than the other cb's

i know this has been done before, and most of this is unlikely but who do you think would help this team the most picking 1 FA and rounds 1-3.
i'm going to go with defense and say....(remember this is make believe but somewhat possible) and as a long shot I'll pretend we trade down and pick up an extra 2nd for fun...

Free Agency- Either Nate Clements or Asanti Samuel (we'll go with NC just for a name:

Draft:
1-Patrick Willis
2a-Victor Abiriami
2b-Brandon Meriweather
3-Kareem Brown

our d would look like...

V.Abiriami....Weaver...K.Brown....Mario

Patrick Willis....Demeco....Greenwood

Clements...Earl....Meriweather....Dunta

That is a stout looking...Bears/Ravens type defense. with only one offseason..sorta. I did it without the trade down...but we were left without a solid LB to put in so I added the trade down to get willis

the more time i spent on this the more it got unrealistic so i guess disregard unless yall want to do it for fun.

I could live with that one. I've been strong advocate for moving Demeeco to the will and turning him loose in a pass rush. Boost the deffense into something special for sure.

In time my friend, Greenwoods contract is still unfriendly to cut and he is only a WILL, give him another year than move Ryans to his natural position and Willis to his and then get the next rookie SAM next year. Good things come to those who wait.

Right...lets move the best player on our team to another position, that makes sense. Just like Meco adapted to MLB, Willis could adapt to the Sam LB spot. A lot of stuff can happen, but Im pretty sure you can write in "MLB- DeMeco Ryans" for the season opener.

Patrick only played MLB this last season...so he could play SAM...I don't know what he would be better at in the nfl.

I like Demeco being at MIKE. I wouldn't be against moving him outside for a game when we have a legit MLB. That's why demeco is playing MiKE. If Demeco can't do it outside and our best option is with him in the middle and patrick outside then so be it. You can tell during the offseason practice and like the first game...it's not going to ruin his career or our season.

He sure stepped up and became the leader of our team...I like that in a Mike.

Personally, I'm in the "trading down the pick" camp right now, although that could change too. I still feel we have to address the O-line (specifically LT and/or C) on the 1st day, and if you draft Peterson in the 1st, who do you go with in the 2nd. You went with DE. Now you've used your top 2 picks and you still haven't addressed your 2 biggest holes (OL and DB). I probably wouldn't mind getting AP at #8 if we can't trade down, but the 2nd pick in my mind has to be either OL or DB.

The talent drops off considerably IMO after the 2nd, especially with OL. This draft only has 1 real good LT and he will be gone by the 5th pick, but there is some good LT's that could start on our team that will be gone by the mid 2nd round. Your pick of the Yale O-lineman in the 6th I don't think does enough to address our needs. He may be a sleeper, I don't know, but I sure would like to pickup a LT or C with the 2nd pick. JMHO!

I like T Joe Staley Central Michigan. I think he would be a good fit in the Zone Blocking System that the Texans employ. I'm not sure where he projects in the draft, but it might be possible to trade down for him if he is a middle to lower First Rounder or pick him with the Texans Second Round pick if he is available there.

I can see Cleveland selecting AP at the 3/4 spot or even trading down to Minn. to #7 like some people have on their mocks...so minn get CJ. Cle still takes AP. If Det. doesn't select Brady quinn he may very well fall all the way to us. If that is the case...what team would be interested in him? Miami may want to select him but the are only 1 spot behind us...I'm looking at Carolina, they signed Delhomme untill or through 2009. Can you see them wanting to trade up with us to snag Quinn and let him learn? I'd hope so..maybe we take their 3rd rounder w/ the trade.

1.Patrick Willis LB (stock has risen tremendously due to senior bowl... let's hope buffalo doesn't pick him or st. louis. but they go with a CB...DT?)

2. Ryan Kalil C (Best center in the draft, his stock keeps rising..once thought we may get him in 3rd but we may actually miss out on him in the 2nd, we need oline help bad and he'd go right in to helping our situation)

3a. Aaron Ross CB (we need help at our #2 cb spot, ross would be a great addition to special teams play as well)

3b. Michael Johnson (We all know fs is one of the weakest spots on the team, plus having 2 starters like him and patrick for someone else we could have picked would be a great idea)

I think this helps our Defense out alot. Also, Michael bush was tempting in the 2nd but opted for kalil because we won't be able to run up the middle if we keep the same C's we have for a few more years)

I'm looking for us selecting Steve Slaton in next years draft when our oline is more solid. (but i doubt he lasts to us..esp when our pick is at 32!)
