Mock Me 1

Scooter

Funky
I want to attack (overload) particular positions in these scenarios and the ideas that can come from it. In this one, we're drafting at ~20.

First round - quarterback ... trades allowed
Second and later - inside linebacker and offensive line

Matt Miller is one of the foremost prolific national mock draft talking heads. He will be on 610 later this morning/early afternoon to talk about his latest Texan mock draft picks. Interestingly he doesn't include QB position. Using BPA approach. I'll be listening to hear his explanations.

FWIW I use to follow Matt Miller on twitter. After some time I unfollowed Matt because I found I disagreed with many of his evaluations and he seemed to get it wrong much more often than he got it right. I put him in novice amateur draftnik class of Todd McShay which is basically a waste of my time. Just a view from the other side.

That Matt Miller explained position very clearly. Get sneaky feeling that O'Brian may indeed pull trigger on CH 2nd. Rd if he interviews/works out well.

anyway he is making a living @ it & your not,
FYI and FTR there are quite a few making a living at it (to what degree is debatable). Hang a shingle on a website and you're in business as a novice amateur draftnik. Much like any Fortune Teller and/or Palm Reader. And like Fortune Tellers and Palm Readers, Novice Amateur Draftniks get it wrong about 80% of the time. I enjoy draft talk as much as anyone and we're all entitled to our opinions. That is not why I took exception. To be clear I took exception to the reference to Matt Miller as foremost and prolific. I find that a bit misleading or in other words read Miller if you must but with a grain of salt.

A few years ago I received a couple of request to write for Bleacher Report. I declined each time because I had no training as a journalist. I was always a "C" student in English and felt I was not qualified to write for any publication. I did not know at the time that journalistic training was not a prerequisite to write for Bleacher Report.

Journalistic training no longer exists in sports or otherwise. Now you throw stuff against the wall and watch it drip. A C student in English might be in the top of the class in a world which resembles an assembly of busybodies (gossiping hens?) more than fact checking linguists.

A bit disappointed that nobody took the challenge. I probably didn't make the suggestion clear enough. Round 2?

1-3 ... Runningback
2-5 ... Safety

The goal of this thread (other than my amusement) is through the draft to see how and with who we could eliminate very specific needs and add depth 'with extreme prejudice'. The initial (failed) post tackled my key ingredients. This one hits holes that could have immediate return as a grinding/defensive team with 'Legion of Boom' type aspirations, that with the right back end may be able to surpass.

We have 6 selections. Any number of runningbacks, at our predicted picks, are allowed to be taken in rounds 1-3. Any number of safeties (oversized corners and undersized linebackers welcome) are allowed to be taken in rounds 2-5.

1. QB, trying to be realistic here with current rankings, though they will change drastically between Dec. and late April, I'd go for either Cook or Wentz as I see Goff and Lynch gone. I'd do a trade up for Goff but it would be expensive from 20 to bout 5 ish.
2. Jayron Kearse-SS, I think he's more of a coverage Safety than a physical hitter and with his height and coverage abilities I think he could fill a huge defensive hole, someone to cover these large athletic TE's that kill us every year.
3. I think RB can wait til the 4th, RB's fall on draft day. Best OT available, maybe Kyle Murphy, Joe Haeg, LeRaven Clark, we need to improve RT and the pick can rotate with Newton until he's up to speed while we pay off Newtons guaranteed money.
4. Kenneth Dixon or Kareem Hunt-RB's, I like both.
5. There's several players I like here Evan Boehm-C with size to play OG, and Dadi Nicolas-OLB who's got good size and quickness and can possibly go in the 3rd or 4th but currently ranked in the later rounds. The 5th round could also be a good spot to grab some value that drops every year on draft day for reasons unbeknownst to us. A good BPA spot since we need depth every where.
5b. DJ Reader-NT, good size and we need depth since Nix was a bust.

I don't think we take an ILB in the 2016 draft, McKinney started slow but is getting better and should be alot better next year. We also owe Cushing way to much money to sit him on the bench, and I'm not real impressed with the ILB's in this draft unless we convert someone from OLB.
