Mock II: Selection Thread - SESupergenius Texans on the clock

Vikings beerlover studwell with the 49th pick select Fabian Washington, CB Nebraska

FabianWashington1.jpg

Keeping with DEFENSE the Vikings solidify the long term viability of their corners into the foreseable future. Teaming with established CB's Antoine Winfield & newly aquired Fred Smoot his development will be fast tracked along with his 4.29 & 4.31 40, and 41½-inch vertical jump. his explosivness negates detractors complaints that he does not have ideal size or will be able to cover bigger NFL WR's. Actually his 5-10 & 186 lbs compares favorably with last years #10 pick of the Houston Texans Dunta Robinson 5-10 & 184 lbs & 4.37 speed (interesting they share the same agency- Spotstars).

In the end Fabian Washington was the BPA on the defensive side of the ball with the 49th pick, adds a potential future #1 CB with a 2nd rd pick, provides depth at a position that last year ranked 29th in passing defense allowing 243.5 yds per game & 3896 yards through the air. Fabian displays good instincts, toughness, ability to change direction and close in a hurry, very fluid hips and quickness in transition … Not fooled & well schooled in play action and digests plays cutting down reaction time.

This was a toss up between three good players. Kevin Barlow (had a bad year last year) still has thier faith of the team. So the RB pick was dropped. That let 2 positions majorly in need. With the pick Washington at #49, (dang you beerlover) that left one other major need.

With the 50th pick of the draft, the San Fran 49ers pick someone who stock is on the rise. Adam Terry OT 6-5, 325 Syracuse

The Jags (under the direction of Vinny and Fiddy b/c of a lapse in time) draft Corey Webster, CB, 6-0, 200, LSU

They have the best D-line in the NFL with Stroud, Henderson, newly signed Hayward and 1st round draft pick Spears but the secondary is still a concern so the Jags will dip into the LSU pool for the second time in this draft.

The Seahawks, under Fiddy, select Marion Barber, RB, Minnesota.

It is getting more and more likely that Alexander will probably be back for another season because there arent many suitors but to have some insurance we add a back that is flying up most teams draft boards.

The Buffalo Bills select Vincent Jackson WR Northern Colorado.

Jackson2-MSU-03.jpg

Ht: 6'4
Wt: 241
40yd: 4.55

The Bills have a couple needs coming into this draft, and without a 1st Round pick they're left to pick through a pretty equally rated level of talent. Our passing attack has made great strides with Moulds and Evans, but we're not sold on Reed. That is why when given the oppurtunity to take a player like Jackson we jumped at the oppurtunity. He has Mike Williams type potential, but without the same hype. He's got excellent size and speed. He is very athletic, and can leap up to make the grab over any DB. Couple that with his very good hands, and you've got one potent WR. The only drawback is that he hasn't played against top level competition, and he will need more time to adjust to the pro game than most NFL prospects. Luckily this pick is one aimed at the future of the team, and he doesn't need to contribute right away. He represents a great value, and he'll be a playmaker for the Bills for years to come.

Coach Jim Broncos select Adrian McPherson, QB, Florida St
sp-fsu.jpg

Position: QB
Height: 6'4"
Weight: 210

With the 57th pick of the 2005 NFL Draft the NY Jets Select:
Bryant McFadden CB 6-0, 185 Florida State

After taking Miller in the first round the Jets look to fill the biggest hole on the team. McFadden should vasty improve a seconary that has many holes. The Jets could have gone OT with this pick as it is their next biggest need, but with one of my top 5 CBs still on the board I went with defense.

with the 59th pick in the 2005 draft, the atlanta falcons select
Mike Patterson DT 6-0, 290 Southern California

The falcons are pleased that this explosive lineman is still on the board this late in the 2nd, as they had a first round grade on him, and was in fact the 3rd highest graded dt on their whole board.

With the 60th pick in the NFL draft the Colts select...

Eric Green

Position: Cornerback
College: Virginia Tech
Height: 5-11
Weight: 197
Hometown: Clewiston, Fla.

ANALYSIS

Positives:
Has a long, lean build with adequate muscle definition, but does have room for additional growth … Has very good short-area quickness with an explosive break on the ball … Has no problems retaining plays and is rarely caught out of position due to his ability to quickly make reads and keys … Has above-average change-of-direction agility, balance and body control, doing a nice job of keeping plays in front of him … Gets a sharp break on the ball and has more than enough range to recover when beaten, but is rarely caught out of position … Stays tight on the hip of receivers on deep routes and cannot be beaten by double moves … His drive to the ball and feel for the pass allow him to get an early jump on the ball … Will not hesitate to come up and plug holes in run support … Has the hand strength to handle his assignments in press coverage, but his speed is also good for man and Cover 2 assignments … Does a very good job of shadowing and trailing in press coverage, and has the ability to plant and drive back to the ball … Effective in turning and flipping his hips when coming out of breaks and showed marked improvement in 2004 to run with the receivers on deep routes … Attacks the ball and shows good timing and proper hand extension competing for the pigskin in tight quarters.

Negatives: Has added strength to his frame, but still lacks ideal size … Has the strength, but needs to get more physical in coverage, as he sometimes gets pushed around by the bigger receivers when trying to dictate route progression … Will get turned around some in man coverage when he peeks into the backfield too long … Quick out of his backpedal, but could be even faster if he would not get so high in his stance … Adequate to read the quarterback in zone coverage, but has good ball skills … Has good hands, but likes to catch the ball with his body … Because of size issues, he is slow to get off blocks and is not physical in his run support, but will tackle … He sometimes takes bad angles and will miss in space, especially when he goes low and tries to trip the runner up.

This pick is more of a need pick then BPA, the colts need cornerbacks badly and Green is the type of player that would be good in Dungys defense.

Steelers select Chris Spencer C. Mississippi. Spencer is being a bit overlooked by being listed as a center on the draft lists. He can play both right and left guard as well as center. A player like this should be a bit more respected. The loss on Vincent to Balt. hurts, as Vincent was looked on as a starter next year. Spencer helps make up for that loss.

With the 64th pick of the 2005 NFL draft the New England Patriots select....

lance.gif

Lance Mitchell/MLB/Oklahoma
oklahoma.jpg

Analysis:

The Patriots fill their MLB need with the loss of Roman Phifer and possibly the loss of Teddy Bruschi this season. With recently signed receiver David Terrel to fill the slot position, the Patriots feel sure to take a linebacker at the end of the 2nd round. Many teams are scared away by Lance's 40 time and injury-prone legs. He's always been a really good player, people don't realize hes never had much speed to begin with. Hes big, strong, takes the right angles for tackles, a perfect MLB for any team. He's a smart player, and was one of the top recruits coming out of High School. A year or two off of surgery should have him back to 100% and give the Patriots a beast in the middle.

Scouting Report:

College: Oklahoma
Height: 6-2 1/8
Position: Inside Linebacker
Weight: 247
Class: Senior
40-Yard: 4.81

Strengths: Good athletic ability...Great size...Very strong...Great tackler who likes to hit...A force against the run...Makes plays from sideline-to-sideline...Extremely productive.

Weaknesses: Coming back from a torn ACL and long-term health and durability might be a question mark...Can be too aggressive at times...Only average speed...Was production aided by such a strong supporting cast?

Notes: Transferred to Oklahoma from the City College of San Francisco and made an impact right away...Was on his way to a spot in Round One of the '04 Draft before a serious knee injury...Didn't look to be all the way back as a senior and saw his stock drop.

Name: Marcus Johnson
Position: Offensive Guard
School: Ole Miss
Height: 6-61/2
Weight: 321
40-Yard: 5.60

fbc-um-usc%206140c%20johnson.jpg

Notes: Cosey Coleman left as a free agent. And with the addition of Dexter Jackson, and Chris Hovan to the defense, OG became the best value to upgrade.

Strengths: Has great size...Good speed and quickness...Shows good technique and knows how to use his hands...Once he locks on the battle is over...Has long arms which really aid him in pass protection...Has a nasty demeanor on the field...Experienced and a very smart player.

Weaknesses: Doesn't move very well and is better in a small area rather than in space...Needs to get stronger...Lacks experience at tackle...Not a great natural athlete...Is not that powerful.

Notes: Could potentially move outside to tackle in the pros...A bit of a 'tweener...Draft stock could depend on whether or not teams feel he can handle a spot outside at tackle or if he will be limited to guard...Could be one of the top players at his position come Draft Day.

With the 67th pick in the 2005 nfl (mock)draft, the Cleveland Browns select...

90919.jpeg

C.J. Mosley, DT, Missouri

height: 6'2"
weight: 314lbs
40 time: 5.10

This guy fills a need for sure, the browns have loss more d linemen this year than Kirstie Allie has "lost" pounds. Having already filled the QB and OLB positions this pick was an easy choice. Being one of the best pass rushing DTs in the draft Mosley would most likely play end in the Browns new 3-4 defense.

I picked Fred Gibson (after a swift edit) WR, Georgia for the 3.68 pick since the clock ran out. The Titans have a fine draft going with Antrel Rolle & Khalif Barnes. Gibson should provide some much needed talent behind Calico and Bennett and give McNair a nice trio of WR's even though Mason left to the Ratbirds.

The Oakland Raiders select Andrew Walter QB Arizona State

Big large framed QB with strong arm. Was productive in college and throws a better deep ball than other options available here. The Raiders defense still needs upgrading but Walter is a borderline 1st round talent available in the third. Recovery from injury is not a concern for the Raiders as Kerry Collins can handle the job for the next two or three years while Walter develops.

LINK

Jason Campbell was a highly recruited player who played early in his career and has started for much of his career as a Tiger. He redshirted his first season at Auburn but then started 8 out of 10 games as a redshirt freshman. He enjoyed his most productive season as a senior.

Physically, Campbell has all the tools NFL teams want in a Quarterback. He has excellent size and physical strength. His passes have excellent velocity and he is capable of making every throw in the book. His mechanics are solid and he has a nice, smooth release. His footwork is decent and he sets up well and does not throw off balance, but could be a little quicker in his dropback. His accuracy has improved throughout his career but is still inconsistent at times. He is definitely at his best when he is moving outside the pocket. He has great mobility and can make plays with his feet downfield. Campbell can throw the ball well on the run and does look to pass before running. He is an experienced player who has developed into a team leader for Auburn, he has a calm, cool demeanor and is a tough player to rattle.

The Bucs fill their RunningBack need with a good one.

1584975.jpg

"Good size and a solid build...Very explosive and a threat to take it the distance at any time...Extremely productive, even when he was Tatum Bell's backup...Has had a lot of absolute monster games of 200+ yards...A playmaker who still has a lot of upside.."

NFL Draft Countdown .com

The Lions select Chris Colmer OT out of NC State

With the departure of McDougle they need to fill the RT positiion and if healthy Colmer could be a real steal in the third round.

The Texans select: Ronald Bartell CB 6-2, 200 Howard

"Howard CB Ronald Bartell Jr. has some physical ability, but is very raw." - Mel Kiper, Jr.

CB Ronald Bartell of Howard (Washington, D.C.) has caught the attention of a number of secondary coaches. He looks much better in press coverage than in soft coverage.

With the 74th pick in the 2005 HoustonTexans.com Mock II Draft, the NY Giants select:

Wesley Britt OT Alabama

Britt0724.jpg

Britt was the '04 SEC Offensive Lineman of the Year after returning from a serious compound fracture of his left leg in '03. Though Britt has played LT his entire carer at Bama, some feel he's best suited at RT. However, the Giants see Wesley in the Joe Jacoby mold as a LT and will have him backup both tackle spots in '05 before moving into the lineup at LT in '06.

With the 75th pick in the 2005 HoustonTexans.com Mock II Draft, the NY Giants select:

Reggie Brown WR Georgia

176246.jpg

Brown was a highly sought after High School All American who struggled early in his career with injuries. Reggie came on as a senior to win All SEC honors. Brown has good speed, agility, and leaping ability. Can come up with the ball in crowds. Will be a good compliment to Giant FA acquisition, Plaxico Burress and will help Eli Manning reverse a negative stat from '04 (no TD receptions from the WR positions).

With the 76th pick, the Washington Redskins select:

Mark Bradley WR Oklahoma

bradley.bmp

ANALYSIS (from NFL Draft Scout via NFL.com)

Positives: Has a solid linear build with defined upper body muscle tone, tight waist and hips and low body fat … Has a quick get-off out of his stance to gain sudden advantage and shows above-average quickness in and out of his routes … Uses effective swim or change-of-direction moves to avoid the jam … Best on outs, comebacks, stops and double moves … Has very good sideline awareness, getting his feet down in bounds while adjusting to the ball … Does not waste a lot of motion coming out of his breaks … Creates a nice target in the short area and shows decent concentration going for the ball in a crowd, taking a hit and hanging on to the ball … Good on slants and quick screen, as he can instantly turn and run after the catch … Not shy when it comes to blocking, doing a good job of maintaining position when working on the edge … Has explosive jumping ability and will not hesitate to go vertical in order to make the play … Shows a strong arm to throw the option pass … Very quick getting down field as a gunner on special teams … Also holds for placements.

Negatives: While he will use swim moves to avoid the jam, he struggles some vs. press coverage and is better vs. the cushion … Even though he has very good foot speed, he relies on double moves to get deep … Does not do a good job of tracking the ball over his shoulder or head on fade routes … Seems to prefer to cradle and body catch the ball rather than extend away from the frame … There are some rounded cuts in his patterns, but he transitions well on hard cuts … Needs to learn how to set defensive backs up by using leverage and must carry his routes to proper depth better … Drives hard off the line when he gets going, but vs. the press, he will take a false step or two.

INJURY REPORT
2002 -- Missed the final six games of the season after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee.

AGILITY
4.42 in the 40-yard dash … 2.62 20-yard dash … 1.59 10-yard dash … 3.98 20-yard shuttle … 10.88 60-yard shuttle … 6.96 three-cone drill … 39½-inch vertical jump … 10-foot-8 broad jump … 31 3/8-inch arm length … 8 7/8-inch hands.

The Carolina Panthers select:

Richie Incognito OG/C Nebraska

nebraska_richie_incognito_sm.jpg

Ht: 6'3
Wt: 305
40yd: 4.91

This was a very tough decision for the Panthers. We are in need of help on the interior of the OL, but since the acquisition of Wahle from GB the need wasn't as great as before. Wahle can play either RT or either OG positions, but with the Incognito pick we'll most likely leave Wahle at RT. Due to recent steroid accusations on C Jeff Mitchell we wanted a versatile interior lineman that could play OG or C. That left us with three draft candidates at this juncture. Jason Brown of NC, Evan Mathis of Alabama, and Richie Incognito formerly of Nebraska. Brown has excellent strength, but lacks good quickness and his size is a problem. Mathis has never played center, but he has the quickness to do so, and he's performed well in his one year at OG. Incognito was the best combination of strength and quickness. He's played every position on the OL from OT, OG, to C. He is a risky pick however, but I think he represents excellent value in the 3rd. We've got a stable mix of veterans in Carolina, and we're counting on them to keep Richie Incognito in line. Our coaches and staff will also pay careful attention to him. When he plays up to his ability he is without a doubt a first round talent, and perhaps even the best OG in this draft. He should strengthen the interior of our line for years to come, and he'll love our running style.

with the 80th pick in the 2005 HostonTexans.com Mock Draft II Mike beerlover "can't I sell a Superbowl Ticket" Tice select-

pic3-lg.jpg

Jonathan Babineaux, Iowa (6-2, 287) ran 4.92 40, had a 29½-inch vertical jump, 9-foot long jump, 7.73 three-cone drill and 21 benches at the combine & helped ruin Sabin's last bowl game recording seven tackles, three sacks, and four tackles for loss in Iowa's Capital One Bowl upset of LSU.

The senior was a standout performer for the Lincoln (Port Arthur, Tex.) High School team, where he was coached by present Iowa assistant Carl Jackson. Babineaux competed as a linebacker, defensive end, punter and fullback. He was a member of the school's top-ranked basketball team in the state of Texas and also lettered in baseball. A first team All-Conference linebacker and team captain as a senior, Jonathan also handled punting duties (40.0 avg). He was raised by his mother and has a younger brother, Jordan, who is a strong safety for the Seattle Seahawks.

Babineaux was an immediate contributor upon arriving at Iowa in 2000. He played in eleven games, starting vs. Ohio State, Wisconsin and Penn State as a fullback that year, but only carried once for a 4-yard gain and made two catches for 12 yards. A right tibia fracture during 2001 spring drills kept him on the sidelines for the season.

In 2002, he moved to the defensive tackle position, starting the first eleven games on the weak side before missing the Minnesota contest due to the death of his grandfather. Jonathan recorded 53 tackles (31 solos) with seven sacks, nine stops behind the line of scrimmage, nine quarterback pressures, two forced fumbles and an interception during that campaign.

He started the first seven games of the 2003 season, but tore ligaments in his ankle and again fractured his right tibia early in the Ohio State clash, missing the team's final six contests. He finished that year with 23 tackles (12 solos), a sack and five stops behind the line of scrimmage.

2004 was his finest season, as Babineaux not only earned All-American and All-Big Ten Conference honors, but was also named the team's Defensive MVP. In his final year, he collected 55 tackles (41 solos), as he led the Big Ten and ranked eleventh in the nation with eleven sacks. Led the conference and ranked second in the nation with 25 stops behind the line of scrimmage, registered twelve pressures with three fumble recoveries and three forced fumbles. His 25 stops for losses also set a school single-season record. Jonathan played in 42 games for the Hawkeyes, including 32 contests on defense. He recorded 131 tackles (84 solos) with 19 sacks for minus-99 yards, 39 stops for losses of 151 yards, 24 quarterback pressures, four fumble recoveries, five forced fumbles, an interception and two pass deflections.

I told y'all I was going defense plain and simple, Babin is the final piece of the puzzle to complete the Vikings NEW PURPLE PEOPLE EATERS. He adds immediate impact with special teams, provides depth in case of injury and the competition for playing time will be intense & in the end may be the most effective DE on the team even over standouts Erasmus James & Kenechi Udeze, not to mention he has the size, strength & quickness to spell the DT's.

#7. Braylon Edwards

#49. Fabian Washington
#80. Jonathan Babineaux

With the 81st pick, the 49'ers are going to take a chance on a player that probably would not be slated this high. He has impressed me from the very beginning and I see a young player of old in this guy. So, for the pick for the 49'ers, and to give Kevin Barlow a bit of help, we select Darren Sproles RB 5-7, 185 Kansas State

The Saints select Attiya Ellison, DT Missouri. 6-3, 304

The Saints need to improve in the middle of the line. Ellison could push for a starting job, but at the least will be good depth.

The Bengals select Ben Wilkerson, Center form LSU. At 6' 3.5" and 299 lbs, Wilkerson has the strenght and the quickness ot play well in teh NFL.

If the Bengals are poised to improve they will need more help in the center of the line.

The Seahawks take Terrance Murphy WR from Texas A&M. Koren Robinson's off field problems are an issue so the Hawks take Murphy for insurance. He will be a nice deep threat and could work his way into the rotation this year or next.

The Buffalo Bills select:

Evan Mathis OG Alabama

evanMathis2.jpg

Ht: 6'5
Wt: 305
40yd: 4.91

The Bills need help on the interior of their line, and Mathis looks to be a good fit with Buffalo's running style. He's got the quickness to be the pulling guard, and don't be surprised to see him blocking 10, 15, or even 20 yards down field. He's got a great toughness, and even though he's only played OG for a year he should become a great interior player. He previously played OT, and he's got good feet. With some good coaching he should be a staple on the Buffalo OLine for years to come, but he might not make a significant impact until his 2nd year.

I read that I might be on the clock, and If I am...

With their second pick in third round the Cincinati Bengals select Jordan Beck, Linebacker from Cal Poly-SLO. At 6-2 3/8, and 233 Jordan was recuited to play WR and DB, but after a postion switch he had 135 tackels, 19 for loss, 4 Ints with 2 being taken back for TDs. Coach Lewis is looking to line him up at both LB and S, helping ot shore up the middle of the defense.

The bucs take Mike Nugent.

"Gruden was involved when Oakland took Janikowski in round one so he knows the importance of a great kicker."

---Scott Wright

Ok, I know I am one hour early with this pick, but I am in the Eastern Time Zone and will not have time to pick in the morning due to work. So here is the Pitt. pick. Eric Shelton RB Louisville. The Bus and Duce are not getting any younger. If one player fits a team in this draft it is Shelton and Pitt. Big back who can run inside. Can learn from two great vets and step in when the time comes.

Eagles selections to date:

31 Eagles - Roddy White, WR, UAB
35 Eagles (from Miami) - Darryl Blackstock, OLB, Virginia
41 Eagles (from Lions) - Barrett Ruud, LB, Nebraska

Mike Tice called and said I could make a pick

With the 94th pick, the Eagles select …

Michael Roos, OT, Eastern Washington

Height: 6-55/8
Weight: 320
Position: Offensive Tackle
Class: Senior
40-Yard: 5.13

SCOUTING REPORT

Strengths: Has very good size...Has the frame to add some weight still...Is a good athlete and moves well...Has very quick feet and good balance...Has long arms...Has some upside.

Weaknesses: Raw and inexperienced...Didn't play against top competition...Will need a lot of work and coaching...Lacks a fiery on-field demeanor.

Notes: From Estonia and only played a year of football in high school...Developmental prospect with the physical tools to make it if a team can be patient.

http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/playerprofiles/ot/michaelroos.html

A sleeper from a small school but is one of the top rated left tackle prospects available and a likely 3rd rounder.

With the 95th pick in the 2005 HoustonTexans.com Mock II Draft, the NY Giants select:

J.J. Arrington RB California

166599.jpg

Giants were looking defense at this pick, but went with the value pick at RB instead. Arrington exploded in his senior year with a NCAA Division I leading 2,018 yards at 7.0 yards per carry average. A model of consistency, J.J ran for over 100 yards in every game in 2004 & over 150 yards in 8 of the 12 games. Runs surprisingly well inside for a RB that's 5'8" 214 lbs. Has not been a factor in the passing game. Similar in size & game to former Giant Joe Morris.

With the 96th selection, the Tennessee Fighting Thumbtacks select Darrent Williams, CB, Oklahoma State...

1531778.jpg

I was really hoping that either Shelton or Arrington would fall to me here, but I after they were both snatched up, I decided to reach in the CB well again...This offseason, the Titans have lost both of their starting corners, paving the way for Andre Woolfolk to prove himself...Antrel Rolle, who was selected with the 6th overall pick, will start opposite Woolfolk and Darrent Williams will split nickel duties with Rich Gardner...Williams will also put his 4.29 40 time to work returning kicks...I was debating between Williams and Antonio Perkins with this pick, but chose Williams because I feel he has a better chance to amount to more than a kick returner...

okay, I guess I'll pick for the Colts....that all of yall skipped, lol.

The Colts after grabbing a DE in the 1st and a CB in the 2nd go offense in the 3rd and select Cedric Houston, RB, from the other UT

With Edge wanting big money, the Colts dont want to keep him around after this season so they groom a RB behind him.

The Denver Broncos select Justin Geisinger, OG, Vanderbilt

Because the Broncos like small, quick guys (I use the term 'small' loosely) Geisinger will probably be asked to lose a few pounds.
