Mock II: Selection Thread - SESupergenius Texans on the clock

fresno8 Seahawks (under Fiddy) select Rian Wallace, LB, Temple

They need some LB depth. Michael Boley was an option but at 220, he is probably too light to play LB in the NFL (same situation as Michael Boulware who was moved from LB to S)

Patriots (under Fiddy again) select Jammal Brimmer SS 6-1, 215 UNLV

I considered a few other players that were suggested but I felt that Brimmer was the BP.

With the second pick in the 4th round of the 2005 HoustonTexans.com mock draft, the Cleveland Browns select...

kirkmorrison.jpg

Kirk Morrison, ILB, San Diego State

Height: 6'3"
Weight: 240lbs
40: 4.65

The Browns add another LB to there corps. Morrison has been one of the most productive LBs in the country for the past two years. He will team with Andra Davis to form one of the best young ILB duo in the league. He is just the type of player that Crennel loves to use in his defense, smart, coachable and a leader.

CoachJim Broncos (under Fiddy) select Frank Gore, RB, Miami.

Oh, if Gore was only fully healthy. He has great vision and could turn into a steal if he regain a little of his speed in a year or two.

Texan279 Dolphins select Craphonso Thorpe WR Florida State

The Titans take Michael Boley, LB, Southern Mississippi

boley_michael_action2_small.jpg

The Titans have solid starters at their LB positions, but they need depth, plus Patrick Sirmon didn't play last season due to injury...

With the 109th pick in the draft, the Dallas Cowboys are proud to select their new starting RT

Jeremy Parquet OT 6-5, 325 Southern Mississippi

Parquet is a massive & very strong player. He excels in the passing game & is solid as a run blocker. He's very nimble on his feet, is extremely smart (graduated in 3½ years), & a team leader. He could project to LT some day.

With the 110th pick in the 2005 HoustonTexans.com Mock II Draft, the NY Giants select:

Tyler King DE Connecticut

nc4.jpg

The Giants are famous for taking flyers on smaller school prospects, and while UConn is Division IA, King pretty much qualifies. King was having an outstanding senior season before breaking his leg. Fully healed by the time the combine rolled around, King worked out completely (& ran a faster time than RB Maurice Clarett). Played RDE at UConn, King could backup both DE spots as a rookie. Son of former Patriot Steve King.

With the 111th pick in the 2005 HoustonTexans.com Mock II Draft, the NY Giants select:

Domonique Foxworth CB Maryland

Domonique_Foxworth.jpg

Maryland was once known as just a basketball school. But in recent years, the Terps have produced defensive players such as Kris Jenkins, Eric Barton, Randy Starks, Madieu Williams, and likely '05 1st round pick Shawne Merriman. Foxworth was a star on the Maryland defense the past 3 years earning All-ACC honors. Fast & quick, Foxworth should be able to step in and help the Giants in nickel & dime packages. Despite his smallish frame, Foxworth is a good tackler who relies on solid fundementals.

With the 112th pick the Redskins select......

DE Bill Swancutt, Oregon State.

swancutt.jpg

The Skins believe they have found this year's Jared Allen. Allen the excellent rookie end played for Kansas City racked up 9 sacks on a poor defense despite ideal measuralbes. Like Allen, Swancutt lacks ideal measurables and should be a 4th round gem, like Allen. One of those motor guys.

With the 113th pick the Detroit Lions select LB Alfred Fincher of Connecticut

Most people have him projected in the second round and is a steal here. Should help out immediately with the Lions LB corp.

ANALYSIS
While Fincher seems to have "flown under the radar" during his first three years at Connecticut, scouts took notice of his ability in 2004. This is an athlete with excellent body control and hand usage. He uses his compact frame with force and is very active with his hands to stun and jolt. He sees the ball immediately and gets to the point of attack with good urgency.

Fincher has fluid hips and a smooth running motion to squeeze through trash and make negative-yardage tackles in the backfield. He has very good field vision, quickly making reads and reacting to the play. Fincher has the ability to distinguish between running and passing plays quickly and has the ability to sift through traffic to make the tackle.

Fincher shows good zone awareness and can cover runners coming out of the backfield. He is a good take-on type who is very physical around the ball.

His tackling skills and lateral agility make him a very interesting prospect. While some teams project him as a mid-rounder, there are very few middle linebackers in this draft with his upside. He has very good body control in the open and excellent hip snap to explode into ball carriers. His quickness to the edge lets him force the action back inside and he shows good awareness, handling the switch-off in zone coverage.

Since the new 12 hour rule is in effect I'm going to go ahead and make my pick.

With the 115th pick the Carolina Panthers select:

Joel Dreessen TE Colorado State

Joel%20Dreessen%2021.jpg

Ht: 6'4"
Wt: 260
40yd: 4.69

Dreessen fills a need for the Panthers at the TE spot. Other TEs that I considered were Garrett Cross, Jerome Collins, Adam Bergen, and Billy Bajema. Finding a play of Dreessen's quality in the 4th round made the decision a whole lot easier. He should be able to compete for playing time, but early on expect Mangum to keep his starting spot. Don't be surprised to see Joel starting somewhere in the midway point of the season. He excells as a receiving threat, and he's got very good speed for a TE his size. He has good hands, and is a consistant threat in the redzone. He needs to improve his blocking. If he can become a better blocker he could become one of the best TEs coming out of this draft.

With the 116th pick in the 2005 HoustonTexans.com Mock II Draft, the NY Giants select:

Sean Considine SS Iowa

obf2gggq.jpg

Considine was a 2 year starter at FS for the Hawkeye defense and is considered one of the big hitters in the Big 10. Looks like a SS in the NFL, 6'0 212 lbs, where he can play closer to the line of scrimmage. Would team with '04 mid round choice Gibral Wilson to form a tough safety tandem for years to come. Excellent special teamer with 5 career punt blocks.
