Mock a starting defense

This thread is pretty straight forward. The Texans have 11 picks in this draft, so draft a starting defense. Doesn't necessarily have to be what the Texans are going to run this year because we really don't know. I drafted with the notion of a standard two-gapping 3-4 defense like Crennel has run in the past.

1 (#1) DE/OLB - Jadeveon Clowney, South Carolina
2 (#33) CB - Jason Verrett, TCU
3 (#65) DE/OLB - Marcus Smith, Louisville
4 (#101) ILB - Yawin Smallwood, UConn
4 (#135) S - Marqueston Huff, Wyoming
5 (#141) DT - Deandre Coleman, California
6 (#177) DT - Zack Kerr, Delaware
6 (#181) DT - Shamar Stephen, UConn
6 (#211) ILB - Andrew Jackson, Western Kentucky
7 (#216) CB - Travis Carrie, Ohio
7 (#256) S - Maurice Alexander, Utah State

DE - Deandre Coleman (6-5, 314)
NT - Zack Kerr (6-1, 326)
DE - Shamar Stephen (6-5, 309)

SOLB - Marcus Smith (6-3, 251)
MLB - Yawin Smallwood (6-2, 246)
ILB - Andrew Jackson (6-1, 254)
WOLB - Jadeveon Clowney (6-5, 266)

CB - Jason Verrett (5-9, 189)
SS - Maurice Alexander (6-1, 220)
FS - Marqueston Huff (5-11, 196)
CB - Travis Carrie (6-0, 206)

What list did you draft from?

Technically my own. I have a spreadsheet that contains many of the draft eligible prospects and I use a variety of sites to average a draft grade for most of the prospects. That way when I do a mock, I can use that grade as a base draft grade for a prospect and don't let my bias determine where they go.

Also, a lot of it is in my head lol.

Me?

I draft on first-pick.com
Thanks, I used that site.

Round 1 Pick 1: Jadeveon Clowney, DE, South Carolina (A)
Round 2 Pick 1: Bradley Roby, CB, Ohio State (B+)
Round 3 Pick 1: DaQuan Jones, DT, Penn State (A-)
Round 4 Pick 1: Christian Jones, ILB, Florida State (B-)
Round 4 Pick 35 (COMP): Ed Stinson, DE, Alabama (D+)
Round 5 Pick 1: Brent Urban, DE, Virginia (D)
Round 6 Pick 1: Larry Webster, DE, Bloomsburg (F)
Round 6 Pick 5: Ross Cockrell, CB, Duke (C)
Round 6 Pick 35 (COMP): Brock Vereen, SS, Minnesota (D-)
Round 7 Pick 1: Andrew Jackson, ILB, Western Kentucky (F)
Round 7 Pick 41 (COMP): Daniel Sorensen, SS, BYU (F)

I went with the most important positions early (edge rusher and cover corner). Then I went with Parcell's "Planet" draft theory of taking big guys first.

Urban-D.Jones-Stinson
Webster-C.Jones-Jackson-Clowney
Roby-Vereen-Sorensen-Cockrell

The website didn't like my 3rd day picks, but I was pretty happy with them. I like the secondary picks, smart guys who I think will make their way on NFL rosters. Christian Jones really made this draft. Would love to see the Texans pick him up at 4-1.

That is a really solid draft.

I agree on Jones, if we can get him or Zumwalt I think it can really give a new dimension to the defense.
