That's big Al giving Pbuc the wink, wink, nudge, nudge. "Too bad Casserly wasn't trading back in this draft, we could have restored the pride and the glory by May", chortled Big Al.

Why is big Al so happy you ask? Well, the most explosive edge rusher in this draft just fell into the Raiders lap. "Darryl Tapp Owns da Brick", was mumbled as Al was gearing up for some more bocci ball.

The Rams select D'Qwell Jackson....

Coakley had a serious injury last year and is a question mark in the linebacking core. Jackson is a solid tackler and can take over for Coakley. The Rams defense stunk last year so they are bringing in some fresh bodies and have a LB and ballhawk FS so far.

Sticking with the LBer theme...

Dallas selects Adbul Hodge, LB, Iowa

With the pending retirement of Dat Ngyuen and Al Singleton coming off an injury, we're suddenly thin(ner) with our LB corps. Hodge fits in nicely with our defensive schemes. Should help plug the middle immediately.

Jerry Jones admits it was tough to pass on Pepsi machine at this point in the draft but we're pleased.

Richard Marshall, CB, Fresno St.

The team need an upgrade in the defensive backfield and Marshall is an outstanding cover corner. Hopefully, he provides the shut down ability that Quentin Jammer hasn't.

With the 52nd pick, the New England Patriots select…

Maurice Stovall WR Notre Dame

apcacunrr_BYU_NOTRE_DAME_1AL8T-lg.jpg

It appears more and more that New England will lose David Givens in free agency. Stovall is the physical receiver who can replace Givens in the Pats’ system. In fact, Maurice played in near identical offense last year under Charlie Weis at South Bend.

At 6’4” 216 lbs, Stovall has the look of the 21st century WR. Though still somewhat raw in terms of fundamentals, Maurice made great strides in his senior season. Began college at the age of 17, so Stovall still has a lot of “upside”.

After twiddling our thumbs waiting through the first rd, the Skins finally get in on the action.

We select:

Derek Hagan
WR - Arizona St.

The Skins badly need a solid #2 WR to complement Santana Moss.
While more quick, than fast, Derek is a hard working over-achiever with good size, and a knack for getting open. Hagan is just the kind of productive WR we need to complement Moss, and fits our needs to a tee.

With the 54th overall pick the Texan279 Chiefs select Derek Hagan WR from Arizona State University.

156186.jpg

After drafting Brodrick Bunkley in the 1st round the Chiefs decided to focus on the offensive side of the ball in the 2nd round. With Eddie Kennison entering his 11th season and no other real major threat at WR the Chiefs decided to focus on a WR. Hagan is the Pac-10's all-time leader in career receptions with 258, and finished second in conference history with 3,939 career receiving yards...is seventh on the Pac-10 career receiving touchdowns list with 27...only the 10th player in Pac-10 history to record 3,000 or more yards and 200 or more catches in his career...concluded his career as ASU's all-time leader in receptions, receiving yards, receiving touchdowns, 100-yard games (18) and career receiving yards per game (78.8)...

Since Hagan was drafted by Porky's Redskins and it's been half a day since the pick I'm just going to slot in Martin Nance, WR, Miami (OH) for the Chiefs pick since 279 was looking at WR here.

That's alright Vinny. I was trying to make a decision between those two anyway, but the reason I picked Hagan was because he was still on the prospect board.

I didn't notice you on...or I would have asked you...I'll change it if you have another option. Nance has great size and is a good fit with the Chiefs since they like their wr's to block too.

No, Nance is good, I was going to go with him first then was back and forth then decided on Hagan, but Nance is who I would have picked if I had known Hagan was off the board.

The clock expired on Cmadd...so I made the pick. The Bengals did well with the first pick as a run stuffer was much needed. In round 2 we will try to fix the broken SS postion with Jason Allen. Allen has good size and has cornerback skills as well so he will be able to matchup in man coverages at the next level and will not need to come off the field in long down and distance situations. Madieu Williams and Allen should be a nice tandem back there.

The Ledzeppelin269 Bears will take Andrew Whitworth, OT LSU. Whitworth probably won't be here when the Bears make their pick so they are excited to shore up their offensive line with the physically dominant and durable Whitworth.

With the 58th pick in the HoustonTexans.com Official Mock Draft the Carolina Panthers select ...

Joseph Addai, RB, LSU

image_1863479.jpg

Ht: 6' 0"
Wt: 215
40 Time: 4.38

Addai gives the Panthers peace of mind in this upcoming season. With Stephen Davis on his way out, and Deshaun Foster's injury concerns the Panthers came into this draft with the HB position being a position of high priority. Addai is a steal this late in the second round as he's considered by some to be the 2nd or 3rd best RB in this draft. He's got good vision, great quickness, and plenty of speed to turn those short 10 yard gains into big time plays. He's got good power and is a north/south style runner, and he won't have to come off the field in short yardage situations. He is also an excellent receiver out of the backfield, but as most rookie RBs he'll have to work on his blitz pickup. John Fox believes he can mold Addai into a great RB for the Panthers for years to come. Addai will be given the chance to compete for the starting job immediately with Nick Goings and Foster (should he return). Addai has a similar running style to his former LSU teammate, and now NFL RB Domanick Davis. Addai has the burst and extra speed to outrun the secondary, but other than that they're very similar.

Mark Setterstrom, G, Minnesota. After solidifying the secondary, the Jags turn to the offensive side of the ball. The line needs some building so they take a guy who has been extremely tough and durable. "I'm just telling you he is one tough sucker."--Glen Mason. He hates to see this guy go and now he will be a rock on the interior in Jacksonville for years to come. He probably needs to bulk up a little and improve his pass protection but there is no doubt this guy will do whatever it takes to succeed at the next level.

The YoungTexanFan Broncos select:

DT, Orien Harris, SR, 6-4, 300, Miami (Fl)

Denver improves the cast-off defensive line. Thus far they have addressed TE with Lewis, WR with Moss, and now DT with Harris.

After earlier attems Fail to trade up for Moroney the Colts set back and watched.

With the 62nd selection in the 2006 NFL draft Cap1 Colts select......

Diet Pepsi Machine :redtowel: :redtowel: :redtowel:

No really I select Brian Calhoun, RB, Wisconsin. After not resigning Edgrin James, the Colts need a RB.

Info from: http://www.nflfans.com/x/2006/showplayer.php?key=Brian Calhoun*

Honors: Named in the preseason as The Sporting News Big Ten Newcomer of the Year

2004: Sat out due to NCAA transfer rules ... scout offense player of the week vs. UNLV ... was part of 2005 Big Ten champion 4x100-meter relay team

2003: (At Colorado) Led team in rushing with 810 yards, averaging 4.2 yards per carry and scoring five touchdowns ... third among all running backs in the Big 12 with 32 receptions ... earned the Fred Casotti Award as CU’s most outstanding offensive back

2002: (At Colorado) Played in every game, including one start ... rushed for 314 yards, the seventh most by a true frosh in CU history ... also saw some action on special teams, returning six kickoffs for an average of 13.2 yards

With the last pick in the second round the Pittsburgh Steelers select......

You can make the argument that Chris Hope will not return to the Steelers, in the meantime the Steelers have to take into consideration that they need an upgrade in thier secondary. There is a safety on the baord who seems to mirror Polumalu and could take his spot against the run, allowing Polumalu to pass cover more. The Steelers move on without Hope and they will hardly miss him after selecting vicious hitter Greg Blue form Georgia. Blue is fast and can hit hard, giving the Steelers two feared safeties to keep recievers running along the sidelines.

The Texans have back to back picks right now. And the Cards are in.

With the 65th pick in the 2006 NFL draft, the Houston Texans select Donte Whitner, SS from Ohio State.

2002470501.jpg

With Brown, and Earl starting, depth, or competition is needed. Also with Coleman being released, someone is needed. Whitner is a great value at this point, and should be a great player for the Texans.

================================================

With the 66th pick in the 2006 NFL draft, the Houston Texans select Alan Zemaitis, CB, Penn State.

0904_zemaitis.jpg

This may be a bit of overkill at CB to some people, but I was not happy with our CB crew last year. Buchanon will stay around to take a pounding at return man, and Faggins, and McKenzie will battle for the #2. That was before Zemaitis was selected. Alan is an exceptional value at #66, and is a no brainer. He will team up with Robinson, and give us a few more coverage sacks.

....., the Green Bay Packers select Roger McIntosh, OLB, 6-2, 230, Miami (Fl)

rmcintosh.jpg

With Howard on one side & McIntosh on the other, GB should have a serious linebacking crew.

San Francisco 49ers select Will Blackmon WR/CB... Boston College 3rd round
Maybe he can play two ways...offense and defense. We need all the help we can get.

Big Al called down and told me that he's not sure Justin Fargas and his chicken legs will be able to stay healthy behind LaMont Jordan. The only other back on the roster is DeJuan Green, so the Raiders pick the quick fire hydrant shaped back Maurice Drew. Drew should be a big time special teams player and a premiere 3rd down back with his great hands, great speed, and low center of gravity.

20051012WP_drew_450.jpg

Wow, do I feel stupid now. I totally missed that and I even checked the recap thread.

In any case, the re-pick is easy since I nearly flipped a coin in the first place:

The Bills select Jeremy Trueblood of Boston College for ... well, basically the exact same reasons as Whitworth.

with the #71 pick in the 2006 draft the Jets will select Jonathon Joseph,CB, South Carolina

He has good size, great speed, and will add needed help to the Jets secondary, potential to become their #1 cornerback, and the Jets feel he is too good to pass up after bolstering their offense with the first 3 picks.

BEERLOVER DETROIT LIONS SELECT-

209838.jpeg

KEVIN BOOTHE, OT/OG CORNELL

Gotta love those Ivy league guys very intelligent, leaders and most often over-looked. Have you ever noticed that offensive lineman are some of the smartest position players in the NFL? Well it goes to reason they have to understand and adapt to a wide array of situations & match-ups studying game film is not just a plus its a requirement.

The Lions (like the Texans) need to upgrade the OL with franchising LT Jeff Backus & in negoiating a long term contract, free agent to be LG Kyle Kosier needs to be replaced/upgraded. The upside of Kevin Boothe is that he has the size right now to start at LG with RT a distinct possiblity in the near future. He is strong & physical with excellent hand punch, knee bend and technique, considered by most the top lineman in the IVY league & oh yeah smart. He would really improve the left side of the line and make Backus seem like a much better LT as well help Joey meet expectations.

With the 75th pick, the New England Patriots select…

Daniel Bullocks SS Nebraska

252975.jpg

With the uncertainty surrounding the return of Rodney Harrison, the Patriots may need someone to step in right away at the strong safety spot. Bullocks is physical enough to play in the box, and has the speed to play the deep zone. Daniel hasn’t seen a lot of top passing attacks in the Big 12 and will need to improve in man coverage. But, Bullocks is going to the right coaching staff to make him a better football player.

With the 76th pick Philadelphia selects Devin Hester ATH Miami. Liked Bullocks, but was one pick short. There is no LB or DE now that is better than what may be cut due to the CBA. With somewhere around 14M under, the Eagles will wait and see who is out there. Hester brings back the field position on kickoffs the Eagles missed last year with the loss of J.R. Reed and years before with B. Mitchell. He should be good for 10 to 20 yards improvment, while being a threat to score on any one of them. His position will be looked at later, but I like WR as he will get the ball more often to use his speed.

Sorry guys, thought this would last until Monday before I picked.

Anyways:

The Minnesota Vikings select:
Greg Eslinger, SR, 6-3, 285, Minnesota

In the 2006 houstontexans.com mock draft the Cleveland Browns select. . .

boshinowo.jpg

DT Babatunde Oshinowo out of Stanford

The brown have a decent d line, but john fisk is not the solution at NT. Oshinowo has the size (6'2" 310lbs) to hold up against the run and can tie up blockers.

swtbound07 Falcons - Michael Robinson qb/wr Penn State - Huge Cowboys on the clock

2.aspx

Cowboys select Cedric Griffin, DB, University of Texas

Would've like to have traded down and aquired a 4th to make up for our pick that was traded to Philly but because it's only a mock, I didn't want to put the effort into it.

We think Griffin projects better as a FS (where we really need him) than CB although he can provide depth there if need be as our lack of depth was exposed after Henry went down with an injury last season. Griffin brings great size, great athleticism and the right attitude.

Anthony Smith, S, Syracuse University.

Needing to upgrade and overhaul one of the worst pass defenses in the league last season, we are excited that a man of this ability and character was available in the 3rd.

Brodie Croyle, SR, 6-2.5, 206, Alabama

Even if the Fins get a good FA QB they will still need a QB for the future. Croyle fits teh bill here.

The Skins select:

John McCargo DT NC State.

You may never heard of him, but our top notch scouts here at Skins HQ sure have. Played second and third fiddle to Manny Lawson and Mario Williams at NC St., but has been very disruptive, active, and has had at least one tackle for a loss every game this past year. We expect this young man to come in and help our front 7 which is in bad shape.

Rats! The Eagles plan was to wait until the near end of this round, then offer 2 of the 4TH round picks we have to whoever to get McCargo. Would have taken him in round 2 if Wroten had not been there.

I know the title of the thread hasn't changed, but since the Porky Redskins have made their pick I am going to make my pick to keep things going. The texan279 Chiefs select Lawrence Vickers FB Colorado.

204234.jpg

you guys who wait for the thread title to change just hold it up...but most everyone bailed on this thing a week ago.

I am going to suggest, on the 2nd go round of the HT mock, we do a prefered posters mock. You must be invited or something. This draft should have been over by now.

BTW, this is the selection thread.

With the 86th pick, the New England Patriots select…

Kelly Jennings CB Miami (FL)

292286.jpg

New England seems to always be short on corners. Jennings is a solid cover guy who was well-schooled at Miami. Will probably begin as a nickel back. Though small in stature, Jennings is a good tackler.

Since time has expired I'll go ahead & make Ledz pick for him. He sent me a PM yesterday to say who he was looking at picking. So to hurry things along the Bears select Joel Klopfenstein, TE, Colorado.

Without further delay the Panthers select with the 89th pick, Tony Scheffler, TE, Western Michigan.
174761.jpg

Height: 6'5"
Weight: 265
40 Time: 4.54

He's a bit of a surprise pick, but with Klopfenstein off the board the Panthers go with their next option. Tightend was a position where the Panthers knew they needed an upgrade, and they think that Tony can be a major upgrade to that position. He's an excellent receiver, and he's got tons of potential to be a great talent in the NFL. He makes all the catches, and was the among the fastest TEs at the combine (Vernon Davis & Anthony Mix were faster). Scheffler has the size and frame of an NFL TE, but he needs to work on his blocking. Coach Fox loves to run the ball, and will undoubtedly pound blocking into Tony's head. He'll also be a favorite target in the redzone.
