Miller v. Quinn v. Aldon Smith

So I just spent 45 minutes watching Youtube highlights of all three.

Von Miller has devastating speed and quickness and I can see why he is the top ranked.

However, Robert Quinn has excellent speed and quickness too, but with more strength it seems. I see the obvious potential here with some polish.

Aldon Smith seems rather pedestrian compared to both of them. I don't see the demarcus ware comparison at all. Most draftniks have Quinn going in the range of SF's pick at 7, maybe a little higher, maybe a little lower. Aldon Smith appears to be an option starting at our pick, and then further down the draft board.

I'd like some opinions and analysis from folks here, particularly as between Smith and Quinn. Based on the little I've seen, Quinn seems worth trading up to 7 for.

Peterson is the only player I trade up for. I am not sold on Miller, Quinn is my preference of the 3. Smith's injury concerns worry me, as does his lack of long term success.

I long your thinking about Peterson, but how can you be worried about Smiths
injury (which he play thru last year), when Quinn didn't even play in '10 and he's got a brain tumor which has never been removed from his skull ? That scares the crap out of me.

When deciding between players, we gotta find out who the NFL will throw flags for. Who does the NFL want in the playoffs. Who is more marketable by the NFL. Who's got some Manning to him. I no longer call it swagger. I call it Manning.

Cloak made a convincing argument a while back about Quinn's tumor deal not having any affect on his ability or longevitiy to play football. I trust him on those issues.

IMO, Quinn would be rated higher than Miller if he hadn't had to sit out this past year.

For sure. Quin is physically ideal for a OLB in the 3-4.

Miller is too skinny, I fear he will get dominated in the pro's by big OLmen and TE.

keep in mind aldon smith missed games with a broken bone in his leg so wasnt right when he came/rushed back. im no expert but apparently hes much more explosive etc in his 09 tape

Quinn - Brain tumor

Smith - Shattered leg

Miller - Healthy.

I would not be upset to see them trade up to take either Peterson or Miller. Top two on my overall board.

This is same thought line.

To expand a bit, I like that Miller was productive for multiple years and has played OLB. He's a great athlete. However, there is just something about him I don't trust translating to the next level, and I can't put my finger on it. I think he will be productive enough to stick, but not top 5 productive.

Aldon Smith went to the wrong school for starters. I would like a drug and background test on anyone from there. Rivalry hatred aside, I don't see the Ware comparisons at all. He is a very explosive athlete, trust me, I've seen it live. I think he will do best as a 4-3 DE like he played in college. He is a speed rusher who likes to go outside shoulder and use a dip move. It's effective. He has some injury concerns, but mostly, I just don't see him being as good at 3-4 OLB as a 4-3 DE, and going to the wrong school only cements my opinion on him.

Robert Quinn is the 4th best overall player in the draft behind Peterson, Jones, and Green in that order. If Quinn played last year, he's a top 3 pick. If he falls to 11, it's a steal. I would trade up for him. I see Ware in him, not Smith. The only other player I would trade up for is Peterson who I think will be other worldly within 2 seasons. Quinn lives in the backfield and is a better athlete than a lot of NFL DE/OLB's. He's smooth adjusts quickly.
