Mike Williams? Allow me to Explain Everything!

#1 Charles Rogers is fine, in fact, he has gained 15 pounts of bulk and that clavicle is covered in iron. It can't break again..and he has more flesh in the way. Williams was not drafted because of Chuck. Chuck when on the field, has been the best WR on the team, better than ROY in preseason by far.

#2 The Salary Cap , We don't give a **** ^_^ our highest Paid wr is Az (cut)Hakim, and because Rogers hasn't met his bonus numbers, he makes alot less. The Lions have been builiding, and Building, and building, well. We're done.

#3 The QB- Joey Harrington was the 5th Rated Passer in the NFL Weeks 1-5, this is when Roy was healthy. After he got hurt, Joey took a nose dive.
Now, if he can be the 5th rated passer with 1 WR, and no KJ, what is he going to be with 4 WR's a TE , and KJ? Seems easy enough. And if he can't do it. Jeff Garcia made the probowl throwing to Owens and Rice, we got more than just 2 WR's Frankly, we could put Ryan Leaf at QB and score 30 TD's

#4 The Divison. It's ripe, Moss is gone, Farve is getting Less help each year, the Bears.... Moss is gone. We made a move to win now, today, make our statement. We have the most dangerous offense on paper in the NFC. We are the Colts Norse. Williams, Williams, Rogers, Johnson, Hakim, Pollard, Jones, Joey/Jeff. No team in our division can match up with our offense, and our defense has been very good against our divsion the past 2 years. Always close games. No one in the NFC north plays defense like the AFC ellite either ^_^

#5 Why Not DJ?

WE wanted DJ, but Williams fell, if the Vikes take Williams, we take DJ, and you aren't pissed because you had a shot at him. The Lions are the never take chance team. This is the first real odd different crazy against the trend thing they have ever done. All 3 of these WR's can be a #1 on other teams.
Who do you cover? You gotta double 1 of them, so who don't you cover, we are looking at Nickle every down. We can run single back Te and double back 3 WR all year long, our offense is the Rams, but on our team Az Hakim isn't even worth keeping.

WE did get Shaun Cody in round 2, he and Big Baby Rushing up the gut is going to be very impressive. And the Lions have defensive playmakes at every spot, it's not as if we had a major hole somewhere on the defense. The offense was the weakness because of injury. Now we can afford multiple injuries and move the ball.

I fully expect Pundits to rip the Lions picking 3 WR's in a row.
And I fully expect us to be the surprise team after 8 weeks
:woot
WE are the class of the division now. The NFC North is ours, easily.

I have never said that......

I'm sure that's what the Lions wanted the league to think prior to the draft. But they brought Troy Williamson in for a visit, as well. He'd have been the pick had the Vikes taken Mike. The Lions also went after Muhammad & Mason during the FA period. Why? Because they know Rogers shoulder is chronic and he likely won't get on the field again. That's the only reason the Lions make that pick.

Enjoy your BMW!!!!!!!! God! Dumb Gruden! JK I won't be mad bout Cadillac unless he sucks, but I sure would've liked a BMW instead...

I'm sure Carr wishes he was in a similar situation like Harrington. That is a QB's dream. No excuses for Joey this year.

That's just not the case.
Rogers has been working out for months, he is ready to go now. When the bone healed the first time, they rushed the process, the healed part of the bone, sucked some strength from the surrounding area. The same spot did not break twice. And now it can't break unless they use the jaws of life

The Second Rehab was not rushed, Chuck had a full recovery.
Rogers health is a factor in Williams. But is not "the" factor. All the Lions WR's health is in question, because we havn't had a healthy WR in 4 years. Williams is going to be mainly the slot WR, and Chuck is going to be #2. The Lions have been looking for a 3rd WR. Not a starter, they wanted Dyson to be #3, the plan the entire time was to get a guy with dependable hands that can make hard catches consistantly to improve 3rd downs. A guy that could play #1 or #2 if something happened.

Charles Rogers doesn't have bone cancer :) He has spent 2 years never stopping rehab, never stopping his training, he has been the only Lion the past 2 years that is year round at Allen Park. If he had no chance to recover, he wouldn't be working out everyday to comeback? Why would he be bulking up to 220 pounds so he could get off the LOS better, why would he waste his time learning this offense inside and out.

The Lions talked to about 20 players that could have been at #10. They also talked to Edwards, Alex Smith, ect ect ect

That's great. I'm happy for him. But my point is that the Lions don't chase high priced FA WRs and take another WR in the top 10 if they think Rogers is healthy. It's not about what you or I think. The Lions are proceeding like a team that doesn't have a player like Charles Rogers. It's the Lions who don't think Rogers will be back. And that makes Mike Williams a good pick for them.

Since when? Not since last year , Roy Williams anyone, all indications after the first break was he made a recovery from a non career effecting injury, and was expected back in the lineup in trainging camp?

It's the Lions who don't think Rogers will be back. And that makes Mike Williams a good pick for them.

The Lions have said many times he will be back, he is penciled in as the #2 WR. Before and After Mike Williams was taken. Before and after they halfheartedly attempted to get Dyson, before and after getting Kevin Johnson. Charles Rogers is already healthy, he has been lifting weights for months, he has been running for months, he has medical clearance to play. THere is no way that same bone can ever break again. There is no reason to think he is will not be back this year. And drafting because of that is even more asanine then drafting BPA WR when you have 2 already.

Every Lions WR has been hurt, the past 4 years

Roy Williams - Surgery this offseason, injury in week 6
Rogers - IR twice
Hakim - IR once
Drummund - IR once
Scotty Anderson - IR once

Bill scheroder unfortunatly, never went on IR : (

most of this happened last year.

This has more to do with depth at the entire WR position, and taking the BPA, not the health of Charles Rogers.

Chuck will be the Lions #2 the first game of the season. (act of god permitting)

Look at the Cardinals

The took Bryant Johnson in round 1, Boldin in Round 2, and Fitzgerald the next year in the 1st round

Why? Because they had no depth at WR.

Well niether did the lions. And what happened ? Boldin got hurt, and they were able to go to Fitzgerald.

Lions are planning for a Injury to anyone, this is depth, not because Rogers is not able to play. He is ready NOW. The Idea that the Lions took Williams because they are worried about Rogers, flat out wrong. They are worried about all the WR's, but the mainly saw BMW as the best player that could help a team that was strugglingly offensively.

I think you might change your tune after the season starts. The Lions fans were talking about how they could win the division last year after they started 2-0, but we all know what happened. Just wait and let it get played out on the field before you talk about how great you are. Yall still have A LOT of holes on your team, so I wouldn't get your hopes up too much.

I still think the Vikes and Packers are the teams to beat in your division, with yall coming in at a close 3rd.

I say with one more year of experience for your team (and a draft when you get someone to help your D), and then you might be considered a favorite.

But, Even then, your success still rests on the shoulders of either A)Joey Harrington, who doesn't seem like he can handle the pressure, or B)The Velvet Lion himself.

So even with your big 3 WR, I don't think yall can/will do it. I think your QBs will hinder your progress. JMHO though... We shall see.

pretty high price just for WR Depth don't you think? unless the Lions plan to run a "run and shoot" type offense..

I guess the lions needed to do something being Minnesota is loading up on defense this season

lets not forget that they have a 1st rounder in the back field. i just don't think they have enough footballs to go around. one of those will leave by the time the lions defense makes them able to compete.

Ok.. the lions are setting pretty right now. They have 3 WR's that are scary. ANY one of them should be double teamed and with jones, this will open up the field to they point of horrible for defenses.. I think they made a good choice here. Now if Joey doesnt kick it in gear here, then next draft, you will find the first pick going to a QB that can use this system they have,.

I don't think it's just no excuses for Joey. It's no excuses for the Lions. They've got a stacked offense and an emerging defense. If the defense doesn't improve enough, they only have themselves to blame for addressing one position on one side of the ball in the first round for 3 consecutive years.

If they don't make the playoffs this season, Millen will be drawn and quartered and his parts will be posted all over the state of Michigan.

I think the Lions will be a very serious team to consider, they are still young but many have proven themselves. They won't feel shy passing the ball, or running the ball. But you know there is a big percentage that one of your Wr's are traded by week 6. Most likely Kevin Johnson. Marcus Pollard will not get any younger. Just a few facts to remember. I agree your defense is stellar, and will be the x-factor tou your success.

I think this was an interesting pick and I think the Lions will be able to use Mike Williams in creative ways. I think you can line this guy up anywhere and watch him play. Good luck!

Now, for the serious question . . . . . how will this affect my fantasy team?
I have picked CRogers as a sleeper the last two year, which looked great until he got hurt each time.

Seriously, I think it is a good move. Hakim should be cut to save money (or traded if anyone will take him - maybe for Glenn?). They still will have depth if one gets hurt and mismatches every week. Plus their no-huddle drill will be a killer.

If Joey can't do it this year, then he will be gone. But, even Ragone could look like a stud with those weapons.

Why are there so many Lion posters on this board. i truly am shocked. it's always a Carr/Harrington comparison or something about how good detroit is going to be. and the guy who thinks rogers isn't hurt. it makes absolutely no sense to take 3 WR in a row, if rogers isn't healthy. it may sound good now, but wait until all 3 are signed and in a few years your way over the salary cap. not to mention, harrington is a bust. yes i said it. harrington is a bust and rogers is too. i liked the Roy Willuiams pick last year, thought he was the best WR coming out, but i'm still not sold on harrington or rogers. you just don't pick up a starter, Garcia, and draft another top 3 WR if something isn't wrong. we had a similar problem with Boselli here. he got hurt, had surgery, they messed up, tried it again, everyone thought he was coming back to play, then out of nowhere, he retired. same with B. Joppru, who we drafted in 2003 as our second rounder. he's missed 2 seasons with injuries and has yet to play a single down in the nfl. supposedly he's comingback this year, but i'm not gonna be terribly upset if he doesn't.

Let me begin by expressing my distaste for the Detroit Lions. They took the fun out of football for Barry Sanders and wouldn't even trade the man, depriving us all of the pleasure of watching his genius. They suck forever.

Having said that, I've long stated my opinion that Mike Williams will be the premier player to come out of this draft. Everything Williams did in college should translate directly to the NFL. It doesn't matter if he doesn't have "top speed." He's bigger and stronger than anyone keeping up with him. He can outleap anyone for a jump ball and his hands are about as good as they get. I think a few teams will be kicking themselves for passing on him.

The Lions all of a sudden have the most dangerous aerial game in the league.

Except their QB is still a piano-playing weenie with happy feet.

:piano:

but wait until all 3 are signed and in a few years your way over the salary cap

it's better than being under the cap and not winning games.
Az Hakim is currently the highest paid WR on the roster anyway.

A #10 PICK wr, doesn't cost alot in his first contract if he is the 3rd WR taken!

Jessssuz. Charles Rogers has little chance to meet his bonuses. Roy Williams isn't on a big contract. You think that if we went with Derrick Johnson that he would never cost any money? They all count against he cap, no matter what position they play.

Charles Rogers isn't hurt, I don't care what you think the Lions drafted a WR for. IF you think it's because Rogers is hurt, you don't know what the heck you're talk about . IF you think it's because he might get hurt again, that applies to boy Roy and Chuck and Az (if he stays)
