Met Earl Campbell Today

While watching the UT game today. Him and Roosevelt Leaks were sitting out on the patio at the 3rd Base Sports Bar here in Austin. At first I didn't want to disturb him but he was my "hero" growing up. I went up and said hi, both him and Roosevelt were real cool and took the time to talk for a couple of minutes.

Everytime I have run into him, he has been very nice.

How was he getting along walking? He was seeing a Doctor (in New Braunsfel?) about some new treatments and I was wondering if he has gotten better as a result.

Thats cool, closest I ever came to the man was eating at his restaurant in Austin. Good grub, I highly recommend it!

I have met him before and he is a class act. I'm glad he is a Texas Legend. He deserves it.

That is very cool, Hookem. He is one person I have such high respect for. You never hear anything abot him not being nice and friendly and respectful.

That's cool, man! :thumbup

I would have done the same thing. Earl and Junkyard Dog were two of my favorite 'heroes' growing up, along with Pappy Boyington (Robert Conrad) from "Ba Ba Black Sheep", as well as Lee Majors, the six million dollar man (oh, can't forget Evel Knievel!)

Earl was real, though, so that put him clearly at the top. I would be honored at a chance to shake his hand and thank him for everything he did for Houston.

He snubbed BUD!! That makes him a SUPER, SUPER hero in my books!!!! He always has been a hero!!

I love Earl. It breaks my heart that he's in such pain all the time. I'm really glad you had a good experience meeting him... I've never had the pleasure, myself.

Remember this guys....everytime you ask McNair to think "outside the box" and get less-than-stellar personality types. It IS possible to be to both a Superstar & a Class Act at the same time.

..I grew up the son of an Aggie, but Earl was, is and will always be a real Texas football legend...

That's funny you say that. I told him that I grew up an Oiler's fan and that he WAS the reason I became a fan. I told him that I stayed an Oilers fan until Bud screwed us and took the team away. He just smiled at me.

Yes, he is still having problems walking. He had to be helped to his car which was sad to see.

That's cool! There will never be another RB like Earl. I got to play golf once with Roosevelt Leaks in a charity tournament about 8 years ago. He's also a great guy.

Good stuff.

I met Earl at the Renaissance in Austin. He was too nice. We sat and had a drink together also. I was showering him with compliments and he said "you see where that got me." I said yeah....Sausage king of TX. He had to laugh at that one.

He is a good guy.

I was surprised to see that he is still a "Skoal brother" also. He was sitting there spitting away.
