It appears he's going with a "If the season ended today" scenario (which correctly leaves us out of the playoffs). So McShay has us missing the playoffs.
If Wentz is good enough to go #30 to the Cards, he's good enough to go to the Texans, wherever they're drafting.30. Arizona - Carson Wentz (QB, North Dakota State)

I'd still take Connor Cook.
Why a DT??

If you're the Houston Texans, you draft defensive players. It's what you do.Why a DT??

If you want to save 15% or more on car insurance, you switch to GEICO. It's what you do.
I liked what I saw in Cook vs Michigan...made some great throws in tight spaces however he seems to have an attitude problem and someone I'd be wary of.
Probably listed as a dun dun DUUUUN: "character concern "Yeah, I'm surprised he didn't have Cook in the first. Thought for sure he'd be a guaranteed 1st rounder.

He's being classified by many as the dreaded "game manager" and is being mocked by draftniks as more of a 2nd round guy now.
I wish we had someone that could successfully manage a game
That's based off what? The incident he quickly apologized for or did I miss something else?

Agreed. "Game manager" is just a lazy tag for saying you expect a prospect to be solid at the next level but not spectacular.
Even if Cook is just solid he's still an upgrade over whatever we currently have.
We do, the problem is fans want a Dan Marino...a guy that slings it all over the place...Anything short of that at the position is a failure in their eyes.
A game manager is a term often used to describe a QB who can run the offense, not make mistakes and not lose the game. It also is also a term used to malign a QB abilities to win the game when his team needs him to. Contrary to the negative connotation often associated with the term "Game Manager" there are game managers who can do all the above and also deliver when their team needs them to.I wish we had someone that could successfully manage a game

But we better draft a damn quarterback in the first.
So, if Goff, Lynch, Wentz and Cook are gone before our pick, which QB must we then pick?
Four QB's in what's considered a weak class top 15 is a little dramatic. Pretty sure Goff & Lynch are gone however, so choose between Wentz & Cook? You already know my answer much to the dismay of my former Amigos!

Jake Coker (and he could turnout to be the best of the lot) remember he lost out by a hair to the guy who won the Heisman Trophy, won a National Championship and was the first pick in the draft. So, if Goff, Lynch, Wentz and Cook are gone before our pick, which QB must we then pick?
You can add Alex Smith to that list. Peyton Manning is a game manager in his own right.Tom Brady, Ben Roethlisberger, Joe Flacco, & Russell Wilson all started as game managers. Tom & Ben have evolved into franchise QBs. Russell appears to be making that transition.
Flacco. He's shown the ability to take over games in the most crucial moments... but then he looks completely lost at other times.
When your run game disappears, & your QB can't even move the ball. You've got a game manager. If your Defense decides to take the day off & your offense can't keep up... you've got a game manager.
Nothing wrong with game managers, that's where every "young" QB should start. IMO, but eventually, to be a franchise guy, he's got to take the next step. He can't "just take what the defense gives him" he's got to tear that defense apart.

The 2011 draft was supposed to have a weak QB class as well, but we all know what happened there. Teams get desperate for a QB and take gambles on them all the time.
yes I agree it's dramatic. But so is the post I quoted. I just get tired of the "they better do this or else" around here with no viable solutions or alternatives. Most seem to think that if it's not done their way then everyone Texans is a fool and sucks at their job
Curious, please give examples?
Andy Dalton, Fitz, Tannehill etc...
Not buying it. O'Brien asked for and was given control of the draft. And he certainly is the final word for who gets gut and who stays on the roster. So if there's a mess to be accountable for, O'Brien has a big chunk of the blame.Need to add Hack and Coker to your list at that point.
Nobody is saying this, what they are saying is McNair/Smith are clueless. I feel bad for BOB the mess that McNair and his yes men have created. BOB is going to have to work his butt off to overcome the incompetence at the upper levels of this org, when it comes to the on the field product that is currently being put on the field.

that was established in some of the early threads about the O'Brien hire but since I know you won't use the search feature....Link please?
So Kubiak didn't have the same amount of control as BOB after 8 yrs here?
However, how do we know that O’Brien is the right man for the job? Patrick Starr of State of the Texans wrote a very compelling columnon the major issues within the Texans organization. Based on his contract, O’Brien has control of the 53-man roster. As he himself stated in the opening scene of Hard Knocks, he wanted all 90 guys who opened camp with the team. This team has O’Brien’s stamp on it, and it’s an ugly stamp right now.
I remember hearing someplace that McNair used a consultant to do the search for Kubiak's successor. But he only interviewed Lovie Smith and Bill O'Brien. O'Brien wowed McNair during the interview and got the job.BTW, who hired O'Brien?
McNair's or did Smith recommend him?

That's the point. O'Brien has control over the 90 that get to compete in camp.Huge difference in having control over the final 53 and having control over who's being brought into the org that will compose the 90 at TC and the final 53.
O'Brien brought all 90 guys into camp. Which means, to me, he picked them from whatever source the Texans use.As he himself stated in the opening scene of Hard Knocks, he wanted all 90 guys who opened camp with the team
