McPherson's Workout

Vinny

shiny happy fan
I bet someone takes him pretty early.
McPherson, who was dismissed from FSU in 2002 and later was charged with gambling on FSU games while he played for the Seminoles, ran 40-yard dash times of 4.52 and 4.59 - faster than his times at the NFL Combine earlier this month, according to scouts.

But while scouts were impressed by his workout - the 6-foot-3, 218-pound McPherson also registered a vertical jump of 40 1/2 inches - questions remained about his off-the-field concerns.

''He's very up front and forward with what happened,'' said Turk Schonert, New Orleans Saints scout and former NFL quarterback. ''In my opinion it's behind him. He made a mistake, we've all made mistakes and he's moved on.

''I think his family has been a strength for him and helped him get through those times.''

McPherson, the only prep athlete in state history to be named Mr. Football and Mr. Basketball in the same year, said those issues are in the past and he's looking forward to moving on - hopefully in the NFL.

''I don't have a character issue,'' said McPherson, who starred for the Indiana Firebirds of the Arena League in 2004. ''Everybody is going to do their research and I've never been in trouble before what happened at Florida State and I've never been in trouble afterwards.

''I think character is a person that continues to get in trouble, and I haven't. I think that when people meet me, they think I'm a good guy that just made a mistake.''

if he has learned his lesson and matured he could be a good pick up in the later rounds, he is the most athletic qb in the draft. i think you are right, someone will probably take him to early but he could have one of the biggest payoffs in the draft because of his ability and were he could be drafted.

He's like Clarett, but everyone doesn't hate him
Yeah, except Mcpherson's work-out was actually impressive. Who ever gets this guy is going to get a Mike Vick Jr. but for a bargain price.

I'd be willing to bet either the Browns or Cardinals (whichever doesn't take a QB in the first) take him in the 3rd...He'd be good in Arizona's WCO, IMO...

Yeah I can see him as a Denny Green kinda guy. but do you really think he'll go as high as the 3rd?

I think it's a good possibility...Green has proven in the past that he doesn't really care about his draftee's backgrounds as long as they can play, and McPherson can definitely play...He wouldn't have to start right away, as they have Warner, but once he gets acclamated to playing in the NFL, everyone will talk about how much of a steal he was...Mark my words...I wouldn't go as far as to call him a Vick, but I think his skills compare favorably to Donovan McNabb...

I hope so. The kid has a lot of character. People make mistakes and he owns up to all of it. I pretty sure being Mr. Everything and having a whole state worship you one minute then have it ripped away from you the next for doing something you know was dumb, was a huge slap in the face for him. Now that he's grounded and focused, I think he'd be a great steal to whom ever lands him.

TexanCanes, I still love your avatar. Please let me know where I can get it.

what's impressive was that he throw it 72 yards flat footed, thats some arm strength.

i got my avatar from someone on tigerfourms, a lsu messageboard.

I saw this guy play a couple of games at florida state and i was blown away a his deep ball.

He bootlegged out to the left and hit the receiver on the money 55 yards downfield. He is lightening in a bottle with maybe a little more accuracy than a Vick.
Denny Green also drafted Culpepper who watched Akili Smith Tim couch, Mcnabb and 7 other players go before him.
