Maybe Carolina knew what they were doing with Capers

if you know anything about football history, even more recent history, capers last expansion stay as a head coach, lasted four years, and then he was out, he should not be given the opportunity to go longer than 4 here either, i dont care how patient an owner McNair is, capers is done here, and so are most of the coaches and linemen

Capers was not hired for his coaching skills. He is an organized person, and started an expansion team before. These was his qualifications, not coaching abilities.

Oh yeah, let's fire the guy after one bad game. I say one bad game because everyone was saying last week how much the Texans had improved. "I love you, I divorce you, I love you, I divorce you ..." This is ridiculous.

If McNair didn't think he was a good coach he would't have been hired plain and simple. I think he made a mistake and he probably does too now but no way would McNair hire Capers if he didn't think he could build this team from the ground up into a winner.
 
I heard a strange buzzing sound when I entered this thread...and then I realized it's the flies from the garbage of yet another troll post.

Anyway, Capers doesn't have the greatest track record, save for the second year of the Panthers. I've been a supporter of him from the beginning, believing in him and drinking all the cups of koolaide he offered.

His players are no longer buying into his system, and most fans, analysts, etc., clearly see that they have quit on the HC. With that in mind, it's a business decision to let him go and move on with rebuilding our team under new leadership.

I sincerely hope he finds another gig and has great success. I wish him all the best. But his time has come and gone with the Houston Texans.

Bobo you missed my point. I am not for Capers, hence my advatar!
I am not saying he is right for this team. He was hired only because he had run an expansion team before. McNair figured he would know first hand how to start a franchise. He was definitely not hired because of his overall coaching skills.

What is bad is he went to the NFC Championship once with Carolina and they still canned him after 4 years, He hasn't even had a .500 season here and he is still here...

You cant build a perennial winner from scratch in 5 years in this NFL. It takes probably closer to 7. I think the playbook is about to change for sure slow developing pass plays and zone blocking dont mix. If you fire capers then you put a winning season even further down the road. I think a horrible '05 gets us the draft talent and FA needed to take this team to make a giant leap forward next year.
 
Capers got to a Conference Championship with Caroline, but Carolina was NOT an expansion team. What the Panthers started out as was AN ALL-STAR TEAM of veterans. I don't think their success was Capers doing (always suspected that), but their drop-off probably was his doing. I've been wanting to say this for some time now, but rarely get the chance to bring it up.

I also think that the argument that it's better to start off slow and develop your players is a bunch of crap. IF YOU CAN, which we couldn't, it's better to start out with a team full of superstars, win a Superbowl or three, and THEN you can start from scratch and develop rookies. Hey, winning is just more fun. This is the other point I've been wanting to make for a long time.

Yea with the salary cap system we have in place that can totally happen. NOT....

Just stick with him and things will happen im sure in 1999 there were oodles of fire Belichek people out there, but the Patriots stuck with him look at them now.... 7 years after Parcells the team wins a superbowl, 11 years later a modern NFL dynasty. Its called patience they had players there that were stars we dont have that here yet.... give it time or else wait another 4 years while this coach pulls his people in here ect..

Are you really trying to claim regressing from 7-9 to start off 0-4 and look horrible, not even close to competitive is part of the normal 5 or even 7 year progression of building a perennial winner? Sorry, not buying that. At this point the Texans have had 4 drafts and a new coaching/management team would have the benefit of a 5th--that is much more akin to coming to right a normal sinking ship than starting an expansion team. The recent history of the NFL is that coaches can build competitive and winning teams in less than 5 years--Chargers in 3 years, Bengals 3 years, Giants. McNair and the fans can and should expect more than the results we are getting.

You have put this in several threads--where does it come from? The zone blocking is purely a run blocking scheme--McKinney, Wade and Pitts have all specifically said this, McKinney to the point that he is getting tired explaining on 610 am. It doesn't dictate any kind of passing offense.

anyway, the point of the Fire Capers Club is not that anyone expected a playoff team, or a winning season, but that this team has QUIT playing for his system. The players are obviously going through the motions, as they lack any fire and desire, which is a direct result of coaches failing to mentally prepare them to win.

We've seen good Houston teams give up on their leadership before (ie. Pardee, Dierker, Rudy T), so we have a pretty good understanding of the warning signs. Some have seen the signs much sooner than many of us, but they are clearly there for all to see now.
