Maurice Clarette In Two Words...

Lawrence Phillips. I think Clarette will go down in history just like Lawrence Phillips. I believe he will explode at the first sign of adversity and end up in some kind of trouble. Its just a matter of time. They say it takes 3 years to grade draft picks, if Clarette is still in the NFL, I'll be the first to apologize, and I'll buy a Clarette jersey and wear it to a Texans game.

Phillips was a top 5 pcik. Clarett didnt go in the top 100. There arent any similarities between them really.
 
well Denver makes every RB look good, so i'm sure we wont hear the end of how "good he is" i wouldnt of traded matt stevens for him.
 
People still want this kid to fail. He's honestly not that bad of a kid, but you don't have to believe me. Just watch him work hard and succeed and in the back of your mind hope he tears his ACL. That's the kind of vibe I get when people talk about him, even in his hometown of youngstown.
 
He brought all of it upon himself, suing the NFL, trying to blackball OSU, then he quit at the combine. What are we supposed to think of him? His actions indicate that he's in it for the paycheck. And Yeah, I've seen the interviews where he says all the right things and in the hood we call that the "Gift of Gab". Clarette is from the Hood.
 
Denver is so lucky how they make any running back look good then they trade them and get better from trading players of a system to actually good players. I.E. Portis-Bailey
 
I really hope that he does do well. I feel for the kid somewhat. All that nation-wide bashing, and barely an adult too. Is it his fault he wanted to play football at the same age he could go fight in a war? Is it his fault he was old enough to die in war, but not to play football? I think his slow combine team was a result of him being out of football. If he would have stayed in and put up another freshman type season but still ran that time at the combine, he would have still been considered good in your hands. The kid just wanted to play football, and I really think that not being able created the character problems. Shanahan will shape him up good.

What exactly do you know about youngstown? That's a social generalization that you really know nothing about unless you're from where he's from.

I've seen the kid at the gyms working his tail off ever since he was denied entrance to the nfl. Don't you think nationwide embarassment will inspire him to prove people wrong?

High school player of the year, NCAA freshman of the year, and soon to be an impact player in the NFL.

It's sad that you've already forgotten just how bad Matt Stevens was. I'd trade Matt Stevens for Clarrett in a heartbeat. I'd trade him for the two month old package of Pop tarts in Maurice Clarrett's mom's pantry.

When he was a Buckeye, if he was making the play, he was a "leader."

The second he came out, dropped a ball, etc- on the sideline cussing up a storm, taking 2 coaches to calm his pansy little butt down.
 
Well I wish him well. He's young and sometimes young men or woman make immature decisions without thinking about the consequences. He deserves a second chance. And he has the opportunity to be an NFL player which is what he wanted so we'll see what he does with the opportunity.
 
As long as Denver can keep him in check, he will look good. Hell, Denver could make my grandpa look good in the backfield.

Last season I got 1600 yards behind Denver's offensive line and most of the time I wasn't even trying. Hey, I had a hundred yard game on the way to my fridge while watching the Texans/Packers game. Those guys are literally that good. Rent them for your next party, you won't regret it.
 
I thought we should have made a run at Dan Neil since we are trying this zone blocking thing. Maybe his injuries were too much, but coming from Denver, the masters of the zone blocking scheme, he probably could have taught the O- Line coaching staff a thing or 2.
 
Claurett has made a few mistakes and gotten some bad advice. I hope that one of the Broncos's veterans takes him under his wing and shows him the way to act. He was a gamer for OSU when healthy. He made some immature decisions. I didn't beat up his girlfriend or do anything violent like Lawrence Phillips though. I hope the best for Claurett. It just seems like so many fans are ready for a guy like this to fail, so they can say "told ya". Kind of cold blooded isn't it?
 
Its kinda hard to root for the when he tried to blackball OSU, quit in the combine and tried to sue his way into the NFL. As for OSU, if they are dirty, they will be exposed, they always are.

I think most division I schools are "dirty" and pay some of their scholarship players. I comes from boosters but coaches just ignore it. If OSU is "exposed" it is because of a witch hunt.
 
Maybe "Dirty" was too strong a word, lets say if they violated NCAA rules. Its another topic for another day, but with all the money these athletes make for the universities, the athletes, in my opinion, deserve a few perks if its not hurting anyone or is unlawful.
 
I really dont care one way or another but if he ran like a 4.8 in the 40 at the Combine then he wasnt even worth the 3rd pick! For his size if he just running 4.8 he wont be any good I dont care who is O line is.

Am I smoking crack or did I hear several reports that he showed up at the combine totally out of shape? You must have been feeding him those Pop Tarts at the gym!
 
He had a better showing at Warren G. Harding (his old high school) after the combine. Those are probably the numbers that they were looking at when he was picked by the Broncos.

You probably are smoking crack then. The knock on him at the combine was that he became "too muscular" and it slowed him down. He saw Greg Jones last year and tried to emulate him from then on.
 
Lawrence Phillips was probobly a better player but i wouldnt classify him and clarrett in the same sentence. Clarrett has never been in legal trouble. He just got in trouble by the ncaa. He was taken advantage of by some people he thought he could trust. Im not saying he was a saint but Ohio St. and a few alumni are counting their blessings because Maurice took all the punishment and they got off easy. I don't know if he will ever be a good back but its not fair to call him a woman beater because he has had a history of being violent, into drugs or shooting people, robbery, etc...etc.....etc...

He didn't get prosecuted for it, but claiming $13k in stuff stolen out of your car when it didn't happen could have gotten him prosecuted. Not sure where I see he got taken advantage of on that one.

If all that mattered was what they did on the field, then fine. But I believe players like Lawrence Phillips (who actually produced while in pads) and Terrell Owens have proven time and again that it's not just about how you perform on the field.

Actually it was from the combine last year. But I don't fault him for what kind of shape he was in. He's been fed a ton of bad information.

But to say he learned right from wrong from his agent in his first press conference as a Bronco? Are you kidding me?

Growing up without much money without a dad will do that for you. The kids decision making is pathetic at best, but I expect him to turn things around.

He's had a rough go with things, but he's got a second chance. He's not really being rewarded or anything, he was a third round compensatory pick. Playing behind that O-line, now THAT is a reward.
