Maurice Clarett

I heard Gill Brandt on National radio a bit ago. He ran 4.6's today and caught the ball well. Brandt thinks that MC is about 10 pounds too heavy and needs to be at 227 or so to be at his optimal weight. Brandt brought up the fact that 5 pounds slows down 2000 pound racehorses so 10 pounds makes a huge difference in the quickness in humans.

A slightly heavier but more sculpted Maurice Clarett might have improved his draft status Thursday during a vigorous solo workout for NFL scouts in Youngstown, Ohio.

The running back weighed in at 236 pounds, two pounds heavier than at the NFL combine, but his 40-yard dash times were better than in February.

He ran 40s in 4.67 and 4.68 seconds, according to his agents Steve Feldman and Josh Luchs, and one team clocked him at 4.65. In Indianapolis last month, he was timed at 4.87 and 4.72.

"I was just trying to give the coaches what they wanted," Clarett said. "They wanted a faster 40, so I worked on the 40 more than anything."

Might have improved his draft status? God, I hope so. How easy is to improve your status when your projected where he is?

All the pre-combine hype was about how much he had matured and was more prepared. So how did this improved version of Clarett do? Not very good because he took his ball and went home after a bad run. That shows maturity right there. The guy is a quitter and he hasn't played football in a long time. I would be disappointed if he joined this team because I don't think he brings anything but baggage.

dude thats so funny I about fell off the bar :heh:

Maurice Clarett has 1 glaring problem. He doesnt know how to be a man. He shifts blame from himself on every bad break he gets.

Whatever team is stupid enough to draft him will have their player personnel people considering quitting their job.

I can see the post game interviews after a loss where he comitted turnovers.
"Well I wasnt handed the ball enough to make up for that."
"The coach called a play I wasnt comfortable with but i ran the play anyways."

"My teammate jarred the ball out of my hands."
"This offensive style is not suited for me."
"I feel as if I am not getting paid for my value"

it will never stop he can never stop because nothing is ever good enough for Maurice Clarrett. I hope he is a bust personally, Im sorry to have to say this about another persons dreams, but his dream has been a nightmare for anyone around him.

I say if he's there in the 6th, take him. Maybe even the fifth. If a day two pick comes into training camp swanning around like he owns the place, he will very clearly be either taken down a peg or two or cut. It's not like he'll be getting any guaranteed money, and he might just turn out to be a steal. Fourth round or above, I'd be dubious.

I believe (and don't jump my butt over this, I don't think it's right or smart) that Clarett will be gone in the third round. I know where he's supposed to go and I know what he ran his 40 in. I just think someone is going to get stupid and they're going to pick him in the third.

As long as he is not in a Texan Uniform, best of luck to the man.

hell probably end up in Minnesota, Cleveland, SF, or Oakland.

Places where the Ownership isnt very Old-School and take chances on character issue players.

But its like I said as long as he does this it wasnt my fault other people/factors were what was really to blame, He will be a personnel nightmare. He could have just accepted the league's decision to not make him eligible and said Ok and worked his but off maybe play at the Ju Co. level to stay in playing shape, and come back this year and been highly sought after.

I think they modeled that budweiser athlete after Clarett Leon and Clarett look eerily similar.

I think this whole debacle could have been avoided. I think a player should be able to apply for the NFL draft at the age of 18.

Nope. Try again. IMHO, it wasn't a " debacle", It was an exercise in free people diaggreeing. The only one I felt bad for in the situation was Mike Williams. He followed the rules and got burned. Which seems to be a constant theme when applied to MC. He's given up on his school. Given up at the combine. He has put "self" ahead of all else. I can see no NFL coach buying these georceries. MC is destined for a street corner. A victim of self inflicted wounds. Was going to try to write a long diatribe to you DC then I thought, you're so far out, so far gone, it wouldn't do any good. So why waste the space ? It will be interesting to see in the future, after the recent supreme court decision that young people under eighteen by virture of their ignorance and imaturity are prohibited now from being held to the harshest standards for the most dastardly crimes. I pray for the families of Becky Ertman & Elizabeth Pena every night. Now will they say at eighteen they've elevated themselves to a postion to determine the punishment their bodies will tollerate in the NFL ? Won't say it won't happen.. Will say we are paying a very high price for PC in this country. JMHO.

Could he even play Ju Co.? I would think he and Mike Williams both would have done something like that if they could...maybe I am wrong though. I don't have any idea of rules about having an agent and playing in the Ju Co. ranks.

As well, I don't seem to recall Clarett being a problem on the team his Freshman year...granted I didn't keep up that much...but I thought he was a pretty impressive player. He was a kid. He probably got some scoundrel lawyers and agents around him, telling him he could have the world type of baloney and became somewhat damaged goods because of it. You know, I wish he could have been a man about the cheating stuff, but for the most part, I think he was the fall guy...from what little I've heard happened.

The guy should and will get his shot in the pros. I would not be upset if it were with the Texans...i.e. with a 6 or 7 round pick...If he even comes close to becoming a problem with that type of investment in him...he will be gone before he knows what happened...heck even a 4 or 5 round pick would not be that big of a loss. So give the guy a shot...if he messes up he is gone.

I don't have anything against Clarett. He's never done anything to me or to any of my family members. It's not personal.

I just don't buy into everything that's said about him. Again, I have yet to see anything special about the guy. What's so amazing about him? He hasn't done anything on or off the field that I haven't seen many times before. He averaged 112 yards per game his freshman season (11 games...1237 yards) and I'm supposed to roll over for that?

I do think he's a victim of having too many people in his ear (agents, Brown, etc) and having too much success (MNC his first year in college) too early. Having Lebron James as a close friend (high schooler going straight to the pros) probably didn't help either.

If you want to talk straight football skills...I think he's a second round/second day pick without the baggage. He doesn't run with patience. He doesn't have great vision. He doesn't have the burst needed at this level. His durability is a big question mark (couldn't finish an entire season the last two seasons he's played).

I don't feel he should be kept out of the league so I don't fall into "not giving him a second chance". I say let him in. But I'll be back when he proves me right. If I'm wrong, then I'll be here for that too. ;)

From now on, I shall be known as Nostradamus. And I will constantly speak in the 3rd person.

I am sure this topic has been duscussed before but does anyone have the slightest idea as to what happened with Maurice Claurret (sp)? WIll he get drafted next year? Will he be completely the biggest waste of oxygen on the planet? Or was he the man child who wasted the most talent ever.

I tried but Lucky killed it. It's not all his fault. But a ship with out a rudder is pretty useless. He'll go down along with the running back who missed the block that ended Steve Youngs carreer when he missed a simple blitz pick up, body by Atlas, brain by Quaker Oats.
