Do you feel that Capers decision to cut Billy Miller was the right thing to do? Do you feel confident that Matt Murphy can be the all around versatile Tight End that we've been searching for?

I'm confident that Derrick Armstrong can do all the things Billy Miller can do- and do them all better. He's faster and a better blocker... Yes, I know he's a WR but then so was Billy Miller, really.

I think if you can get past all of the feelings most Texans fans have for Billy Miller (myself included) than the cut was justified. Murphy proved through camp and the preseason games that he can catch and block, and like Dale said, we have plenty of talented recievers who can catch passes.

I am fine with it. I knew he would be gone with Bennie back. And now that Matt has been playing well all arround, then the move makes sense.

As a fan of the Team, Billy Miller will always be a hero for scoring our first touchdown, but that doesn't earn you a roster spot for the rest of your career. Murphey showed up big in TC and the preseason and fits the scheme the offense is running. I hate to see him go, but it was time to make that move.

Seeing Billy go is hard because he has been here from the beginning. Over the next few years all of the original players will be let go or move on. It's just how it goes. David Carr will probably be the last of the original team to go, or maybe Chester Pitts.

I think Matt Murphy isn't the receiver that Miller is, but is a better blocker and a good enough receiver.

If Billy wants to play I think he still has some gas left in the tank, but he may just take the NFL pension and go into broadcasting.

Good luck to you Billy!

Miller could contribute at a team that uses a h-back instead of an online TE.

Murphy is the closest thing to a two-way TE that the Texans have. He seems aroung average in both areas. Hopefully, with a chance he can prove to be at least serviceable.

No matter who your TE is if he isn't invovled in the game plan he's not going to be a factor. Miller was used so much his first year because Carr had no one else. Now the TE is the check down and with the line not protecting him, Carr couldn't get the ball there because he was busy scrambling. Hopefully he will have more time in the pocket and we will use the TE more especially in the red zone. AJ is going to draw a lot of attention and this could be the year we have a breakout TE.

Couldn't we do this with Bruner? I think we just got rid of a proven performer and kept a TE that will never play a down in the NFL. Jopporu!

I beleive letting go of billy miller was a good move. However I beleive we need to keep a core of this team together so I hope the staff doesnt go about getting rid of the originals every year. I although beleive this was a good move and that it will be better with murphy because he is a better blocker which is overall what we need.

Miller was drafter by Denver in the 5th round (99) as a Wide Reciever .... If Im not mistaken .

I think it was the right move . The first two seasons Miller was part of the offensive gameplan as many have said because of neccessity , they had no one else .
As the team got better and has somewhat gained an offnesive "Identity" Millers skills didnt fit what the coaches want from the TE position . The fact that he is a poor blocker left little chance for him to make the roster . Releasing him early gives him a chance to possibly catch on w/ another team . If not as someone else said he may go into broadcasting , we all know how he loves the camera . :tv:
I know it must have been a very difficult decision for the coaching staff . It was said that during his time here that he NEVER missed a practice or training camp session since joining the Texans . Billy's a professional and will land on his feet , I wish him the best of luck .... Unless his new team is playing the Texans :texflag:

I think it is a good move but for another reason. This is a team that is looking at playoffs this year. With the effort that was given in last weeks game against Dallas, cutting a player like Billy Miller who is a fan and camera favorite, who caught the first TD and all that stuff, sends a real message to a team that better get its act in gear.

I am not saying that Billy Miller was target or anything like that but IMO this move does more than just cut a decent player. It says what have you done for me lately and as these kind of cuts continue the message should become more clear.

As for rosters stuff. This move to me could've gone either way. I am one that wanted Joppru to come through for us this year but I wouldn't have minded if they let him and the other TEs not named Bruener, Rivers or Murphy go and still keep Miller.

i think murphy will do for now...but look towards next years draft or FA for us to find the guy who will be here for the next 5 years...let's face it anyone who is holding onto the idea of bennie joppru coming back is asking for a miricle...the guy can't even get through mini camps with out being lost for a season...if you go into the season hopeing he stays healthy you'll be asking for a huge dissapointment

LOL i am one of those guys who still holds on to the Bennie Joppru dream. I don't know why but I feel he will be a rockstar once he gets healthy. Heck I haven't even seen him play a single snap, and I am not even sure how to pronounce his last name. I must be a true :homer:

ppru rhymes with grew

I think cutting Billy was the right thing to do. In years past we were able to easily determine as fans who was worthy of staying, and who was on there way out. It's getting much tougher to determine that now. Billy will always be remembered for having the first TD in franchise history, but unfortunately he just doesn't fit into what the Texans need right now. I think Murphy will do well for the Texans. I also think Rivers will do well. As the team gets more and more depth we'll continue to see guys who were once starters moving to backups and possibly off the team entirely.
