Matt Jones WR/TE/H-Back

I'm becoming very intrigued about how we could use Matt Jones. If he's available in the 3rd, I think he'd be a great pick. Although he might take 1-2 years to develop, his hands and ability might be a great asset...esp in the red zone.

Any thoughts?

Matt Jones is interesting . There have QBs who have come into the league and been a multi -task player . Remember Jim Jensen with the Dolphins he did a little of everything . Then you have Kordell Stewart and Randal El to name a few . It would give Defenses something to think about .

If Kellon Winslow Jr. and Mike Williams were in the same draft which one is taken first ? I'm thinking they end up being the same type of player . :hmmm:

the last thing the Texans need is another project at WR, Matt Jones is a utility player bottom line, he does not have the skills to be a front line player in the NFL as a WR. at best he is a career back-up QB that could be inserted for trick plays on occassion.

not that I blame anyone for thinking this, the announcers were hypeing this kid up pretty good when their was several stud WR's on the sidelines that didn't get hardly any pub, Vincent Jackson WR North Colorado and Reggie Brown WR Georgia. :twocents:

:howdy: All WRs are projects AJ is the exception . I've watched Matt Jones and he is a great athelete . If your QB can run a 60 yd . td hes fast enough to play reciever .

There are sevaral good examlpes in the NFL of QBs who became WRs . Hines Ward , Drew Bennett, Atwan Randal EL and the bast of alltime Drew Pearson from Tulsa look it up . If your in the 4th round and hes there take him . Thats after the combine and hes healthy . He'll probably get drafted earlier by a good team who can afford the risk .

I could see us taking him, I mean, after all, what's a Texans draft without getting a converted QB?

"But not so much better that he is a first day pick."

IMO it is highly unlikely he doesn't go in the first 3 rounds

my guess would be late 2nd - early 3rd

Lively dialogue! I've always been intrigued by big receivers, since watching Harold Carmachial. Matt Jones is a fab athlete and could be a great tweener (WR/TE/H-Back) on offense for us. I think the hype he's getting will only heighten at the combine, when his measurables and performance will shine. While I'd love to get him in rounds 5-6, I think he'll probably end up going in 3rd or 4th.

His size, hands & speed will make him a huge match-up problem for defenses. These are the types of players, I'd like to add to our arsenal.

I think it would be a good pick if we took im in the 4th or 5th round. He runs what a 4.4,4.5? and hes big , he has good athletic ability and could be a great project.
