Mathis is our first All Pro Texan I think. Walker, Glenn and AJ were pro bowlers only I do believe.

They both made the Pro Bowl but being picked as an All Pro is the more prestigious award.U4ikrob said:I thought both Andre Johnson and Gary Walker were selected as All-Pro's as well.
Hey, that's what lawyers/agents are for. Mathis outha sue for malpracticeLCROD said:I dont think very many 4th round picks have clauses in their contracts. None the less, Congrats Jerome!

Texans_Chick said:As an aside, let me add that I would very much like to see Joe Marciano as a special teams coach for the Texans next season.
He is very well-liked by his players, a terrific motivator and teacher, enthusiastic, ST has done very well for the Texans, and is well thought of by various staff members in the Texans organization.
From what I understand, the new HC has say as to who they hire for various positions, and I hope he comes back and wants to come back.

MATHIS has done very well for the Texans, everyone else hasnt been very good. Cant coach speed, those returns were all Mathis.
Kris Brown lost us like 4 games this year- hes Marciano's responsibility. our punting was worse than years before, and punt returns were non existant.
Texans' Mathis named All-Pro
Colts, Seahawks lead the way with four players each

Rookie receiver Jerome Mathis, who returned two kickoffs for touchdowns this season, was voted as the return man on the Associated Press' All-Pro Team.
"I just want to thank the guys that block in front of me and have faith that I will hit the holes they created," Mathis said. "I would not have imagined having this good of a rookie season, but this is a great honor, and I look forward to having a better 2006."
Mathis had already been voted to the Pro Bowl. He's the Texans' only Pro Bowl selection this season.
"It's quite and honor for both Jerome and the Texans," said general manager Charley Casserly, who drafted Mathis in the fourth round. "We're very proud of what he has accomplished this year. Being named to the Pro Bowl and the All-Pro team as a rookie both exciting for him and the organization."

U4ikrob said:I know its a bigger award to be selected as All-pro - I just thougth both Johnson and Walker were selected as All-Pro's also. Wasnt sure about Glenn. I looked around and they come up as All-Pro when I recently pulled some searches on them. - I dont have the AP list for those years they were selected - Can someone look it up if they have access to the AP archives?

kingh99 said:Not a troll. I'm simply giving my opinion. He was hurt a lot of the season. That's my opinion. Now rather than make some backhanded remark, what's your opinion? Does durability count?
eriadoc said:Mathis was the best kick returner in the NFL this year, by any measure of the term. He was left off the Pro Bowl ballot and still made it on the strength of coach and player votes. He was then voted All-Pro. He managed to do all that despite the injury bug. So no, I guess durability doesn't factor in when you compare him to his peers.
As for backhanded remarks, your post served no purpose aside from detracting from the first ever All-Pro Texan. Nice way to contribute to the boards.
jerek said:Marciano was liked and respected by the players. As well, we really only have one kicker on the team, so it isn't really an option for Marciano to cut or sit him. Who would we bring in instead, Jose Cortez?
I would not mind Marciano coming back on. Mathis was a difference maker, no doubt. I mean, did J J Moses ever run one back? ... But still, Marciano did well coaching the special teams unit, and was one of, if not the most, liked and respected coaches on the staff.
I'd buy one in a heartbeat.El Tejano said:I can't wait to get my Pro Bowl Jerome Mathis Jersey.
