Don't know if you looked at the video but he throws down a 360 (almost) dunk .... as well as a couple others.

Go watch the video on his instagram posted above .... he throws down some nice dunks.

That goal is not set at 10 ft. Looks like about 9ft.

If he could do 360's and dunk like that on a 10ft goal there is 0 chance he goes for that rinky dink lay up and miss it in front if a big crowd like that. It's manziel. He would've thrown one down for the fans.

Who cares , he's not gonna get paid to dunk basketballs.

Manziel workout Thur starts at 11a. He'll have WRs Travis Labhart, Derel Walker & Mike Evans + RB Ben Malena w him. O/U for NFL folks: 125

"If you watch some of his games, obviously, he's a very exciting when he breaks the pocket and he runs,'' O'Brien said. "But if you watch the Ole Miss game, he might have hurt his ankle early on and he came back. And he threw from the pocket in that game. If you watch him, he's going to be able to do a lot of different things.

"So, yeah, I think he's sustainable.''

This is what I've been trying to explain to people. Manziel did a lot of the things in college that he did because he could. He's more than a capable passer from the pocket. Does he need to anticipate throws better? Yes. Go through his progressions better? Yes. Have a little better feel of when to step up in the pocket? Yes......... But all of those things I believe will come to him in time. In the meantime you get a dynamic playmaker who will be electrifying on the field for you every Sunday. He'll win plenty of games for you just with the syle he has now. Once he gets more polish then he'll be incredible.

ORLANDO – At this point, it appears Johnny Manziel will not work out for the Houston Texans following his Thursday pro day at Texas A&M.

That could prove an interesting turn -- and potentially be a turnoff to the Texans considering how much first-year coach Bill O'Brien prizes working out quarterbacks individually.

Asked if Manziel would work out for the Texans afterward, O'Brien said during Tuesday's AFC coaches' breakfast, "I don't think so. He's got his Johnny Day.''

When did O'Brien or anyone say that Johnny has told teams he wouldn't do any personal workouts? Is it a possibility that the Texans just don't need to see him again? If so, how is this a turnoff to the Texans? Seems like a pretty lazy assumption to me.

It is vaguely worded "will not work out for" but the overall implication is he refused their request. If that is the case he is a prima donna fool.

He didn't refuse to work out for them or any other team. Lazy reporting and/or bad assumption if that is what you got.

I'm just looking at the only thing reported. "Potentially be a turn off" all but says it was not the Texans' decision. They wouldn't be turned off if they didn't ask for one. Not asking wouldn't bode well in and of itself. OB's comment was borderline snarky as well. Do you know of a report that they didn't ask?

While not in the same answer this is what I put together from O'Brien

Sometime their agents tell them we’re only doing this pro day and there are no private workouts. Sometimes you can’t do that.

“I don’t think so. I think his day is—he’s got his Johnny Day.”

My source, who spoke with some people in the Texans front office, said that right now, the the NFL scouts grade out Manziel and Bortles relatively the same with Teddy being slightly below them. If the Texans are partial to any one of the three they may try trade back and still get the player they want. All the teams are playing games with who they favor, he was told don't believe any of it as they are all sending out info to try and figure out where the other teams are leaning but not to bank too much on any of it at this time. He was also told if Manziel knocks it out of the park Thursday there could be some real info leaking as to the Texans decision. If not and he remains in the pack we may not know their intentions until draft day.

Take it for what it's worth, but he's been pretty spot on with his info.

I wouldn't mind a Clowney/Robinson at 1-1 and a trade back into the 1st in the 20's and pick JM. 2 most dynamic players in the draft on the same team. Along with 3rd down back Jerick McKinnon and you get the 3 most electric players in the draft and you add much needed team speed.

I looked at some film if McKinnon and I can't condone drafting him...lol

I like his measurables, but I'd rather have a real running back. McKinnon was an option qb. Not saying he can't become a good nfl back, but I'd much rather have Andre Williams. McKinnon looked regular on film to me. I didn't see anything dynamic about him.

I'm not doubting your source was told that but it doesn't make sense to me other than him being told that as part of the disinformation. I find it hard to believe Manziel's agent wouldn't respond to what could very easily be taken as a negative report about him.

What? There's some conflicting reports coming out here. He's meeting with him privately but not doing a work out?
Two distinctions here: private meetings/throw it around/grease board session in and around their pro days versus bringing a kid in for a visit.

OB met with TB and BB around their pro days and scheduled visits for both. OB is planning on meeting with JFF at his Johnny Day and may schedule a visit at that time.** edit:

All I'm hearing is Texans FO is as tight as a drum. As far as NFL Scouts, that'll be National Scouting and or BLESTO scouting services that teams subscribe to.

Greg Gabriel Scouting Report on Johnny Manziel, and Pro Day vs. Private Workouts

The Scouting Report

I have watched nine tapes of Manziel over the last two seasons. My conclusion is that he is an excellent playmaker and one heck of a competitor. At slightly...
...
...the team that drafts him has to have a plan. If they think he can be a conventional NFL drop back quarterback they are making a mistake and he will fail. The offense has to be designed to play to his strengths with a style similar to the way Seattle uses Russell Wilson. If that happens, he can be a very successful NFL player.

Manziel's Pro Day

NFL coaches and scouts, aren't going to find out much about Manziel that they don't already know at his pro day. The reason for this is when quarterbacks work out at their pro day it has become more of a media circus...

Because it's fairly controlled environment and has time constraints, there will only be a few clubs that actually get a chance to spend one on one time with Manziel...

Private Workouts

If a club wants to get a real up close and personal feel for Johnny Manziel, they need to schedule a private workout. While a quarterbacks pro day is a scripted, controlled situation, a private workout will give an interested club a much better opportunity to find out what they need to know about Manziel. A typical private workout for a quarterback could last anywhere from 4-6 hours.

In many cases, it will start out with a classroom situation that will double as an interview. Here, the position coach, coordinator, head coach and general manager can spend as much time as they want talking to the player.

The questioning may include talk about Manziel's background, why he chose Texas A&M, and about his "life in the fast lane" so to speak after he won the Heisman Trophy last year. The position coach and coordinator will also get Manziel "on the board". Usually when this happens, they ask the player to draw up some of his plays from his college playbook and explain the theory of the play.

When that is done, a coach will usually give a brief dissertation on their offense. They may describe what they are trying to accomplish with their playbook and draw up some of the basic plays. The player takes notes and is then tested on what he learned. It is in this type of situations that the coaching staff will get a good idea of how a player is in the meeting room. How does he take notes and how much of the lecture can he absorb?

When they are done in the meeting room it is time for an on field workout. While a pro day is scripted and has been practiced, the player has no idea of what to expect in this type of situation.

The coaches will have the player do things that that are conducive to their offense, make the throws that are consistently used by them. The tempo is usually faster and a coach will see how well a player like Manziel takes coaching. He will also find out if Manziel is the right "fit" for their scheme. When I say that, I mean a fit as a person and a player.

When the workout is done, the evaluators will have a strong idea if they in fact want Manziel on their team. They will know if they can work with him and have a general idea of how he will be with the other players in the locker room. While pro days can answer a lot of questions for players at other positions, it's the private workout that is needed to answer questions about a quarterback.

Some logic as to where Manziel might end up.

All about 'Johnny Football'

Johnny Manziel received a favorable ruling in his attempt to trademark the nickname “Johnny Football.” Whether or not those who are handling his affairs are acting as businesspeople on the QT and also trademarking the name “Johnny Bust” is unknown. If any weight is given to the analysis of Ron Jaworski and Merril Hoge, Manziel either shouldn’t be considered in the first round at all or is a bust waiting to happen.

Manziel’s got all the hype of Tim Tebow [Unlink] with some actual ability to possibly play quarterback in the NFL. With the media lust bolstering him and transforming him from a flawed player to being in the conversation as the first pick in the draft, it’s hard to know where the editorial mandate ends and the reality begins. It’s no secret that the name Manziel means web hits and ratings. Web hits and ratings are a large factor in how websites, TV and radio stations determine their advertising rates. That justifiably casts a jaundiced eye on any talk regarding Manziel as a first round pick.
Are the analysts who will be broadcasting and reporting live from the NFL draft headquarters giving an honest appraisal as to where they believe Manziel should be drafted or are they following orders to bolster web traffic and ratings from those who want validation regarding Manziel’s status?

Presumably most know that the knowledgeable football people who are grading Manziel from Jaworski to Hoge to Charley Casserly are saying straight out that he’s not a first round pick and that there are significant holes to his game. That makes his draft status a win-win for all the networks and sites that bank on that one day of the year to bolster their site metrics. There are certain days that beget hefty traffic. The MLB trade deadline and NFL draft day are two of them. To have consensus on Manziel and eliminate the waiting game that will accompany where he winds up is cannibalistic and self-destructive to their ends. Those ends are not to disseminate accurate information, but to make money.

Has Manziel’s arm strength, speed, decision making, size and maturity improved from his freshman year in which he won the Heisman Trophy to his sophomore year when he declared for the draft? On all counts, the answer is no. In fact, his maturity has probably deceased in correlation to the attention he’s accrued through the combination of his Heisman Trophy win and press coverage. The one thing that’s improved is his marketability. Already he’s in a McDonald’s commercial with LeBron James [Unlink] and it’s on the way up from there. While advertisers and club sales staff are no doubt intrigued by what Manziel can contribute off the field, it won’t do them any good whatsoever if he’s a short-term proposition as a player.

The trade of Matt Schaub [Unlink] to the Raiders slightly clarifies Manziel’s situation and not in a good way. In his later years, Al Davis [Unlink] had a propensity to select players whose names he recognized. If he were still alive, there’s little doubt that the Raiders would have taken Manziel. That he made a similar mistake with Todd Marinovich [Unlink] wouldn’t dissuade him. Davis would have taken Manziel, for better or worse. Since the post-Davis Raiders have traded for Schaub and coach Dennis Allen [Unlink] already announced that he’s going to be their starter, that essentially kiboshes any idea that they’re taking Manziel.

Other teams need a quarterback. The Texans have the first overall pick and could use a quarterback. If they take one with the first pick, it won’t be Manziel who would be little more than a distraction for new coach Bill O’Brien and whose questions and off-field circus diametrically oppose what it is that O’Brien wants to build.

The Browns need a quarterback and are a legitimate possibility for Manziel. Of course, that would be a disaster for Manziel as he heads into a dysfunctional black hole that will swallow him up. It would also be one for the Browns who need someone who has more tools that will guarantee his success than Manziel has. But with the Haslam ownership openly meddling and not having a detailed plan in place, the possibility of them taking Manziel is substantial.

The Jaguars need a quarterback, but if they didn’t sign Tebow with his salability back in his college hometown, they’re not going to take Manziel.
Manziel isn’t the type of player that new Vikings coach Mike Zimmer [Unlink] will want, but there’s the chance that ownership could order Manziel be drafted. That too is unlikely.

So where is he going? It’s either to a situation where the coaching staff didn’t want him or where the organizational deciders are not known for their astute team-building skills.

Well OB doesn't seem like someone who would skip one on one chart time with a QB to take high just for disinformation so as I said, if they didn't ask I wouldn't expect to hear Manziel's name called for the Texans.

Gov. Perry and Pres. Bush 44 are among those expected at Manziel's pro day. Biggest pro day ever at A&M.

Bush 44 is a nickname for Obama (the 44th president).
Bush 41 has his presidential library on campus.

NFL draft: Texans (and everyone else) excited for Johnny Manziel's pro day

Maybe general manager Rick Smith had a slip to USA Today when asked about concerns that Manziel would not fit in O'Brien's offensive scheme.

"That's not an accurate statement at all,'' Smith said. "Bill O'Brien is a creative coach. He's an innovative coach. And if he had a guy like Johnny Manziel, he'd figure out a way to utilize his skills.''

Smith paused, then, chuckled.

"Now when you write that everybody is going to say, 'We're taking him,''' he said. "Which I love.''.................

And at Manziel's much-anticipated pro day, O'Brien said he's looking forward to seeing how much Manziel has improved since his season at Texas A&M ended.

"Has he improved footwork-wise, throwing motion, knowledge of coverages?" O'Brien said. "You can see a lot in a pro day, but in a private workout, you're one-on-one, and the prospect is taking your instruction right from what you say. And he's doing things that you're going to have him do in your system, whether it's offense or defense."

A few quotes in this article I haven't seen before. Not sure if they're new or not, but its the first I've seen them.

If he can’t simulate a defensive pass rush, Texas A&M’s Johnny Manziel will surely do all he can to simulate the physical hurdles of throwing while being draped in football equipment. ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports that Manziel, a player widely considered to be taken among the top eight in the impending NFL Draft, will wear a helmet and shoulder pads during the throwing portion of his pro day.

This move is certainly going to produce plenty of discussion for several reaasons. One, it’s believed to be the first time that a collegiate quarterback is doing so as many use their pro days to provide the most ideal of conditions. Secondly, fellow quarterback Teddy Bridgewater did not wear pads and a helmet and still couldn’t throw the ball well during his day.

Johnny Manziel will be throwing today in shoulder pads and a helmet, which is a departure from the norm for quarterbacks at pro days.
Matt Miller ‏@nfldraftscout
Text from a team scout just now: "You know Manziel is throwing in a helmet to make himself look taller."

Helmet and shoulder pads = heels and blouse is trending on Twitter.

I don't care what anyone says this is a good idea. It sets him apart from the other QBs and their pro days. I just don't want to hear excuses if he has a bad one saying its only because of the extra equipment he wore.

Johnny Football Pro Day getting ready to start. If you liked him before you'll like him after. If you didn't like him before you won't like him after. FTR - I like Him. Johnny is #2 QB on my QB list.

I just heard Whitfield (sp?) is going to be chasing him with a broom as well...

If that's true, Manziel has got to be careful not to let this turn into a clown show.

That's actually a common training technique. Nothing new there. Patriots used this to prepare for our Defensive Line and Watt before the game.

You're not telling me anything I don't already know.

I am well aware of things people do in practice and training. I'm also aware that the patriots used it to get ready for Watt. I know that when Carr first got here they did something similar to try to help him throwing over the line.
