Mangold/Eslinger question

Was curious to know if anyone could answer this for me. If Mangold drops to the second, or Eslinger drops to the third, could/has Drew Hodgdon play guard? The reason i ask is i heard they were moving McKinney to guard to start him at center.

most likely Hodgdon would fight it out with Mangold/Eslinger in TC to see who starts at center...the other would be depth at center...which we are lacking.

Thats kinda what i figured. Would be sweet if Mangold lasts till the second, although we still are not done in FA. I know we need some o-line help, but im almost interested to see what Kubiak does with what we have.........almost!

I think Mangold could play OG and would be better suited there than Hodgdon would, but I think Eslinger would probably stay at C and have to battle it out with Hodgdon for the starting spot.

I like Eslinger a lot. Great player, nice guy and works hard from day one. It would be great to see him in Houston.

why would Mangold be better suited to play guard than Hodgdon?

McKinney was brought in to give the rookie (Carr) experience and leadership from the Center position. in retro what the Texans should have done was draft the best center available in the draft to develop chemistry, timing and trust for David Carr so at the minimum these issues would not be a concern 5 years latter.

Imagine if you would the Texans understood this concept and instead of drafting Jabar Gaffney (#33) in 2002 they drafted LeCharles Bentley (N.O. #44)? oh yeah Bentley was another outstanding Center from Ohio State as is Mangold, will history repeat itself or will they learn from it?

Mangold is the top Center draft prospect in the draft as was Bentley, they both played @ Ohio State, lettered 4 years and generally regarded as the best prospects at their positions in years. I don't want to bash Hodgdon so lets just say he is not considered elite Center material, not bad for a 5th rd. pick (can he stay healthy, build his leg strength/lower body) but are you willing to hinge the future of the Texans season on him or have to move McKinney back to Center?

I would really appreciate it if the Texans address this position with the BPA, I'm sure Carr would as well, it would be nice if this guy was already in fold and working with David in Kubiac's new system. this draft cannot come soon enough
