"Man Crush" Draft picks

Spades is a card game where all of the spades are trump cards. You bid accroding to how you think the suits are split. If you have no hearts, diamonds, clubs or are weak in those other suits other than the spades...that means you can trump the rounds early and capture the most tricks. Tricks = thirteen. 52/4. So "in spades" means you've got and outstanding chance. You've got all the trumps and can controll the game. David Harris can play Mike with a superior run stuffer in front of him. The only question with Harris is can he play it with our core DT's in front of him ? With Harris in the middle it will allow the club to experiment with Demeco at the Will. My gamble is that yes he can do it without an elite DT infront of him. See what he runs at the combine. They get another two playmakers on D...they'll be close to a forty-six defense in tallent. Not saing they will do that...but they could if they wanted. Payton hates pressure up the middle.

Ah, ok thanks. I am really liking what I saw out of David Harris this year. Him and Tony Taylor from Georgia are my LB sleepers and I am hoping that we pick one up. If we get Harris it most likely means that we will be switching Meco to WLB like you were saying. I think that Harris benifited from a great D-line in Michigan but I do not think that is why he played the way he did. He seems to always be around the play.

My other guy, Tony Taylor, would play WLB for us so we could keep DeMeco at the MLB spot. I am more in favor of this because a) DeMeco stays at his record breaking spot b) Tony Taylor seems to be a great WLB and everybody plays their existing positions. Tony Taylor had 7 INTs last season at WLB for Georgia. He could be a real threat for us when DeMeco is blitzing. The best thing to have behind a blitz is someone ready to act on the quarterbacks mistake.

Both of these guys, in my mind, would help out our defense tremendously and as it looks we can get either one after the 3rd round. Unless David Harris runs much faster than anticipated I doubt he gets drafted higher than the 3rd maybe 4th round. Same goes for Tony Taylor. They both need great combines to move up in the draft, and if they dont, they will be sitting there late on day 1 waiting to be stolen.

I really like what the Jets did last year addressing the LT position (D'Brickashaw) then Center (Nick Mangold) w/1st two picks. they completly overhauled the line in one draft, something the Texans have failed to do in 5 years.

Ryan Kalil stock is rising however into the 1st rd. so I'm not holding my breath that he lasts until the Texans pick again. I'd also hate to pass on the best player available especially a cb if the Texans guy falls here that should be the pick as far as "Man Love" for a second rd. corner its Chris Houston. then opt for the best Center available in the 3rd like a Doug Datish. those would be three realistic "Man Love" picks-

1. Levi Brown
2. Chris Houston
3. Doug Datish

As far as a "Man Crush" first 3 choices I would go with:

1. LaRon Landry
2. Justin Blalock
3. Tony Taylor

I could more than live with this. I'm still not sold on Levi above 15, but I do like this draft.

regardless of who the Texans draft the what should comprise of at least a LT, CB & Center.

I've posted endlessly about Levi so "man love" cannot be questioned, but very little regarding the why for Chris Houston or Doug Datish so here it is.

Houston won 1st Team SEC accolades after posting 45 tackles and lead Arkansas with 3 INT's and 13 pass breakups. whats impressed me is that teams have gone away from him (always a good sign) when called upon has matched up against some of the premier WR's in the country (Dwayne Jarrett, Sidney Rice, Robert Meachem, Dwayne Bowe, Andre Caldwell, etc.) with only Rice going over 100 yards. I also like the way he plays the position, he jams his man @ the line of scrimmage being very physical & can turn, swivel his hips as needed to make adjustments to run step for step then leap (waiting for his vertical @ combine) with long arms & good timing to contest for the ball. as his tackle total suggests he is also very good in run support, something the Texans like & need. benches over 450 lbs.

Datish is my second choice after Ryan Kalil @ Center, this is a must need improvement position for the Texans. Datish is a team player, has played every position on the OSU front wall during his career (including LT). he does need to get stronger but has the frame to do so without losing quickness. he is the type of Center who fits the zone blocking system, has nimble feet ability to block into the second level with speed/technique. very smart the type of team leader you need to be handling the snap @ Center & making the line calls.

Is he really strong enough to do that in the NFL though. I know he can play OLB in a 3-4 but DE??? He did have Branch playing with him at Michigan holding up blocks...if that means anything.

He has played DE his entire career so I would try him there before I moved him to OLB.

I guess nobody else watches Michigan games, but Woodley was double-teamed on every single passing play I saw all year and he still led the Big Ten in sacks.
