Malcom Kelly...

Oklahoma WR has declared for the draft as i reported before.

however he only got a 2nd round grade by the NFL. he's clearly the #1 WR in this draft.

makes me think that the NFL draft committee isn't so keen on handing out 1st round grades for players. they also gave Vernon Gholston a 2nd round grade.

Or maybe they are drooling over this class of recievers. And as I guessed befor....that will drive the group as a whole down the boards. Which is not good for the Texans. Vincent gets a couple of majical hands guys on the roster they will be a very tough out.

Seems the committee is very is very stingy about giving out that 1st round grade, now with gholston and kelly both receiving 2nd rd grades.

Any chance they do this as to not completely sway the prospects decision of declaring but to stay in school instead? Doesn't always work out but I guarantee you if they said your a top 10 player...that guys packing his bags and heading to new york. On the other hand, if your given a 2nd, it may keep the guy his senior year to earn his degree and work on his technique to improve to a 1st rounder. just a guess though.

Well I wouldn't count on the '09 class if you have a major need at RB or WR. Gotta draft one this year. Some of thes guys are already married and have responsiblities. I'm with you though, unless your locked for a day one pick, go back and get the education.

i'm starting to think that OMT. they definitely want the players to graduate, and that's a great thing. one can question the validity of giving players "wrong" grades though, but in the end they can just claim opinion.

it certainly hurts this class (08 draft class that is) he looks like the real deal & worth a Top 10 pick.

the most interesting facet of this group still remains. they're really big corners not you traditional 5010, 5011 178-85 pounders instead they go over 6000 & 200. I would like to see the Texans get one & they still may? What the Texans need is someone who can come in and play the bump & run. in other words a true press corner. thats what Malcom Kelly is & why he had a chance to be a very high pick, would have never made it to #18 anyway but it would have pushed another prospect down to us too.

Just a gut feeling of mine, but I think the Texans plan on pursuing a top-notch corner in free agency while using the draft to rebuild the line and the running back situation.

strike my post. had the wrong Malcolm (Jenkins). my bad :gun:

I am really not that high on Kelly and never have been. There's nothing about him that really stands out to me and maybe it's the same for the guys doing the rankings. Saying that he's the obvious no 1 wr in the draft is a little crazy but then again I'm not sure who is that much better than him.

Kelly is the real deal IMO. I actually felt OU had one of the best if not the best receiving corps in the nation and tack on the TE they were downright scary at times. I think had they gone with a more experienced QB they really could've carved up some teams worse.

I'm sure the grading process is more art thne science as well as the draft. It'sa top heavy class there and we could see another deep draft this year with much to my chagrin big time 1st round talent could be falling into the second. Either will be a smart year to try to move down or a difficult one with the way some players might fall.

Way better than Sweed in the Big 12. Easily the best WR in that conference.

Not much hype around him though.

sweed always looked good because ut's wr corps wasnt that great while kelly didnt get as much attention with a bunch of good wr's on the same team. i am not say sweed isn't good because he is he just had a better chance to shine

Maybe the real reason is because Sweed always had a better QB throwing to him until this year.
