Lot Of Upgrades Needed!!

i'm as glad as the next guy that i can finaly watch a game and know we got a excellent shot of winning, but there are still tons of holes in the texans that have to be fixed before we make it to the playoffs.
1. ERic browns gotta go, put glenn in and see how he does the rest of the year.
2. D-line played pretty good today but we still desperatly need someone like marcus spears or the NT from oregon.
3. Jay foreman is not a playmaker, he only had two tackles last game and didn't do anything this game. Either move wong, and start babin and peak or draft a middle linbacker like ahmad brooks or someone in the second round.
4. STEVE mckinney is a average center at best, definatly time to look for someone to groom behind him.
5. tight end! millers not a good enough blocker to get on the field and bruener isn't a big enough threat in the passing game. Really looking forward to bennie joppru getting in there.

i agree with them all except for the Foreman one,,,i think since our D line has been playing better it has limited his play ! He is still a good player and he will stay just a bad game i mean we dont want all of our LBs and secondary making all the tackles do we ?

Kinda hard to judge that since they never get a pass thrown in their direction idonno:

While your in the upgrade mode you might think about coaching upgrades. When everything breaks down all at once, you kind of have to look to the game plan. There was a preparation problem somewhere. About 3 minutes out of 60 was the real story of this game. The rest of the time we held our own despite how badly we played.

I think the biggest upgrade needed is the Dline. success starts at the line.. and we need more there. We need a stud on the line basicly. That will improve our run defense.. and improve our pass rush, which will improve our secondary.

I think Earl will make a good SS.. I think Coleman will end up moving back to CB eventually.. and im hoping that Mcree will step up and take his place.

That would leave our defense looking like this.

Robinson, CB
Coleman, CB
Mcree, FS
Earl, SS
Sharper, ILB
Foreman, ILB
Wong, OLB
Babin, OLB
Smith, DE

then we need a stud DT.. and another DE. I love Payne and Walker.. but both are getting up there in years and though I think Payne rocks.. Walker looks like he is feeling his age.

On offense.. I think we are good. We will eventually need another TE.. a big blocking one. Personally id love for us to get an Antonio Gates.. big enough to block.. but a true playmaker in the red zone. Dunno if Joppru will be that for us or not.. hopefully.

Our RB situation is fine.. DD will come around, or Hollings will. If anything we could use a big back for short yardage, and possibly to groom for the future.

We COULD use some help on the line.. but not that much.. we can probably peice it together through free agency. We will need a Center eventually.. you want your center to be steady.. not someone you pick up out of FA.. he has to mesh with your QB and the rest of your line.. so maybe pick up a center in the draft? other than that. the left side of our line is fine.. the right side is good, but older.. we can probably keep it going through FA though.

WR we are great at.

And I think we are good at coaching too :). I wouldnt have said that at the beggining of the year.. but Palmer has started to make a beleiver out of me.. and the aggressive D we have been seeing is great.

SO!. just to recap.

DT
DE
Coleman to CB
McRee to FS
Earl to SS
Center
Big TE
Right side of the Oline

thats my 2 cents
big RB

I am with upgrading the OL even more. I sure hope we find a big tough center to help the running game up the middle. We don't seem to pull much so why not go big? Defensively. I think Drob is great, but We sure could use that Roll kid out of Miami on the opposite side. Put Genn at NB/backup FS. Glenn has lost half a step. Joppru has yet to play so I am not saying anything about the TE position. SS needs to be solidified though. Eric Brown can't cover. I think they shoul try and let Glenn Earl in the game more.

NFL.com shows he was sacked 4 times, but it seemed to be alot more than that. Terrible performance by the OLine.

especially since their top pass rusher was injuried and didn't play.

Here's a thought...let's let the season playout then start yelling "Off with their heads!". The bottom line is that we aren't changing the roster until at least FEB 2005. Nobody was griping about Foreman or the D-line or the TE crew when we were putting up W's the last few weeks.

Foreman is not a star by any means but he could in fact start for quite a few teams out their and he is a young guy that will continue to improve. LBs effectivness is directly related to the D-line. I agree that we should start looking for some quality D-line help in the draft since that position is key to the 3-4 scheme working. I notice that Seth Payne had a fantastic game and not too long ago several posts hammered him for not coming back to his form of early last year.

As for the TE's...I think that Reddevil63 said it best "Tough to judge when they aren't getting balls thrown at them". Billy can be effective as can Bruener...I honestly don't see Joppru coming thru. Given the fact that we are starting to go with Spread 3's for our base offensive set it is forcing nickle coverage which will benefit Miller in the long run. That being said Bruener could probably play OG for some teams in the league and when we go with 2 TE sets that is a great combo.

Actualy the weakness are the exact same whether were winning or loseing.
Jay forman is still an average linebacker, and the texans will only get better with a replacement.
The d-line is starting to come togeather but we still need a true stud there, walker has been almost non-exsistent and payne is a free agent.

people just dont mention weaknesses when you are winning :). our dline could be 80 years old and a combined 75 pounds.. and no one would say anything about it as long as we were winning games :). When ya lose games though, its time to consider "how can we improve"

The biggest upgrade specific to this game only was that Cappers & staff were clearly outcoached by Shanahan & staff. All ths misdirection stuff killed us, the Linebackers lost contact with the TE's whom ranover the much smaller DB's of the Texans. Fundamental tackling must improve agree with Ibar_ Harry ``Every man is going to step up and take full responsibility,'' Texans coach Dom Capers said. ``We didn't do a good enough job coaching and we didn't do a good enough job playing.''

Seth Payne was an anchor in the middle & played a terrific game, he is showing signs of returning to form, the major question would be his future contract/extension how much are the Texans willing to tie up like they did with Gary Walker. That we don't know. So drafting a DT to replace Seth would be contingent on his contract more than being a upgrade.

Give Glenn Earl more exposed playing time @ SS to help decide how critical the need is to draft a premier College Safety :thumbup

I like having Coleman as the free safety this works to his advantage & the Texans as a playmaker, Mcree is a solid back-up & provides depth.

The Texans do need some succession planning with a true center prospect, here as I've mentioned before big Ben Wilkerson from LSU in the 2nd round would be an excellent fit for the future of the offensive line.

The #1 need will be another shutdown corner like Dunta Robinson, but only if the right one is still available (they are hard to find) another LSU player Corey Webster more like a young Coleman with nice size 6-0 & 200 lbs, former WR with good speed & reacts to the ball well (would need some time to develop behind Aaron Glenn).

I dunno.. i think Faggins could be our future corner across from Robinson, that is if Coleman doesnt move back to CB.

Faggins has looked pretty good.. he still makes some stupid mistakes.. but you can see the potential.

i agree faggins has looked pretty good to me ,,,makes a few mistakes, but feel with the additions of Robinson and Earl this year our D is gonna be very good for years to come, now we need to get a few good Defensive line men in the draft our Free agency give them a little play time next year so they are ready cause Walker and Payne wont be around forever !

i think for the most part all of us agree that glenn earl needs to be our starter at SS...i agree...eric brown is looking lost on passing plays and isn't making a difference on the runs

the rest of our defensive backs i think are ok...glenn is getting up there in years...but i wouldn't move coleman from FS just yet

I'm not gonna touch the mckinney issue with a ten foot pole

As for the DL...i love the idea of us drafting spears moving smith to NT and hoping that walker snaps out of it and starts performing again

Foreman is what he is...i've said this so many times before i believe it's lost all meaning...but here we go again...in the 3-4 defense...you cannot have two impact players at the ILB position...sorry folks you just can't...Foreman is a great compliment to Sharper...Foreman isn't there to make all the plays that's Sharper's job so lay off of foreman...i'll agree he needs to be more aggressive but i wouldn't move Wong right now...he's having a career year at ROLB position...if you want to move anybody it would have to be Peek...i think trying him next to sharper might be interesting

moving peek to ILB is not something that would people happy. Everyone already complains about how he cant make reads, cant open field tackle, and cant stop the run. He has the athletic ability to do it but he is still getting use to OLB. If he doesnt get more playing time next year he will probably be lost in free agency

Peek is a great special teams player, but all you have to do is run in a linear manner and pop someone when you get there. He has great wheels. Probably our best special teamer ever here so far. He is just not fundamentally sound as an OLB yet.
