List Your Top Eight

I don't recall seeing a thread like this. If I missed one just delete this.

If you were given the chance to list the eight players on top of the Texans draft board for our first pick in the draft, who would they be?

Not who you think are the eight best players in the draft, but the eight that you think would be the most help to our team. The best player that also fills a need.

Assume nothing. Everyones available.

1) Joe Thomas OT

2) Gaines Adams DE

3) Calvin Johnson WR

4) Adrian Peterson RB

5) Leon Hall CB

6) LaRon Landry S

7) Sidney Rice WR

8) Darrelle Revis CB

1) Joe Thomas

2) Calvin Johnson

3) Adrian Peterson

4) Brady Quinn

5) Reggie Nelson

6) Laron Landry

7) Jamaal Anderson

8) Amobe Okoye

My order of preference:

1. Joe Thomas - he will be gone - simply because we need a stud OT
2. CJ - he will be gone - don't really need him but he and AJ would be scary
3. Peterson - he is probably gone - a better dickerson
4. Russell - he is likely gone - we need qb - see Quinn
5. Quinn - he is probably gone - but we need a qb and you gotta take chances sometimes - all the arguments about him would apply to Russell if we were picking earlier - or to Palmer/Vick/etc. in whatever year.
6. Gaines Adams- may be there -because a stud DE would hopefully round out our DL.
7. JAnderson - See Adams
8. Okoye - DT - would force us to make Weaver more DE than DT so I would rather have the DE - but our run D would be stout.
9. Branch - see Okoye
10. Chris Houston - CB - I think he could be the Dunta of this draft. Plus, later round CBs are almost as risky as CBs and this is too expensive to fill through FA.
11/12 Nelson/Landry - whichever looks like a better fit - which is probably Nelson.
13. Levi Brown - at this point, with the studs gone and no decent CBs left, I would have to take the best OT. Plus, he is probably worth a top 20 pick anyway(and only if the FO had him ranked as top 20).

20ish if we trade down that far: the previous 13, then whichever LB/S/CB has the best rating and fit for the team.

1. Joe Thomas
2. Calvin Johnson
3. Adrian Peterson
4. Brady Quinn
5. JaMarcus Russel (even though they would never pick him)
6. LaRon Landry
7. Gaines Adams
8. Amobi Okoye

1. Joe Thomas
2. Calvin Johnson
3. Adrian Peterson
4. Gaines Adams
5. LaRon Landry

10. Amobi Okoye

it would take me a long time to think about which players would help us out the most...but i'd probably pick them in this order.

1. calvin johnson-only cuz he's the best player in the draft and we need another wr.
2. joe thomas-best LT in the draft...we need oline help
3. adrian peterson- best rb in quite some time...TD threat each play
4. laron landry- best defensive player in draft imo. would help secondary tremendously and help our defense overall more than any other player
5. gaines adams- more of a pass rusher than anyone in the draft and who we have. adams/mario tandem would be nuts.
6. brady quinn- best qb in the draft imo. if our line lets him do his job..he'll be a franchise qb that will be great, if our o-line doesnt do their job he will be just like carr in 5 years.
7. alan branch-i like okoye a lot so i dont know who i'd take 1st..okoye is more popular on here. i'll go with branch this week because he would plug up the middle and draw dbl teams. if mario still had dbl teams...our LB's would be free to do whatever they want. nobody would run close to branch and mario...causing them to run the other way (lb's cheat that way) or be one deminsional and pass(which is not good ..see our secondary..lol)
8. amobi okoye- fast guy that can penetrate...forcing the qb to move side to side...i think we'd get more sacks from our DE's.
9. leon hall- elite corners are hard to come by. dunta and hall would be our version of denver's champ & bly. our d-line will have to put pressure but to great cb's would be huge in the afc south.
10. jamaal anderson- anderson/mario would be dangerous too. seems similar to mario but not quite the freak. anderson would be good pass rusher and solid against the run...mario is amazing against the run.

players missing the top 10 barely:
Levi Brown (would fill a need but we gotta take more elite players)
Patrick Willis (w/ the position our team is in...eight is just too high for a LB. Willis will be an incredible LB for his whole career...we'd be stacked with him and demeco.
Jamarcus Russell (big guy that's hard to bring down, #2 qb in draft, has a huge upside but can easily be a bust imo. big potential but others would fit our team better)

Rick's top 8 unconstrained, balanced against need:
1. Thomas -- need I say it?
2. CJ -- dude is an absolute monster. Plus I love the marketing of J&J.
3. Peterson -- questions of durability are overdone
4. Gaines -- there's only so many double teams an O-line can muster
5. Landry -- this guy is a killer. I want him patrolling our secondary.
6. Okoye -- see Gaines
7. Branch -- see Gaines
8. Levi -- need I say it?

this would be the Texans board unless someone slips targeting realistic picks-

Alan Branch DT
Levi Brown OT
Amobi Okoye DT
LaRon Landry FS
Leon Hall CB
Reggie Nelson FS
Patrick Willis LB
Jammal Anderson DE

ps. in no particular order

1. Calvin Johnson
2. Joe Thomas
3. Jamarcus Russell (kiffin got so excited today, he had to cover his fly to get out of the gym. )
4. Criss Houston
5. Ambi Ohkoye
6. Gains Adams
7. Alan Branch
8. Brady Quinn
9. Adam Carriker
10. All Day
11. Leron "Spot me Two on "c" "a" "t" " , Landry
12 Reggie Nelson

JOE THOMAS
CALVIN JOHNSON
LARON LANDRY
ALL DAY ADRIAN
BRADY QUINN
CHRIS HOUSTON
REGGIE NELSON
(all those defensive linemen)

Joe Thomas
Laron Landry
Brady Quinn
Calvin Johnson
Adrian Peterson
Amobi Okoye
Jamaal Anderson
Gaines Adams

It is interesting Russell is not on more lists if the task was it could be anyone at all, are people not sold on Russell. I know I'm not.

That was my intent. The first player on your list is the one you would most like to see drafted in the first round by the Texans.

IMHO Russell is a boom or bust pick. The upside in tremendous, but so is the risk. But not much, if anything, is guaranteed in the draft.

I just wanted to get a feel for which direction posters thought we should go, O or D.

From my list it is obvious that with our first pick I want more talent in the trenches, whether O or D.

As you research the scouting reports it becomes quickly apparent how important it is to have good scouts. Of course the GMs also see film that we don't have access to.

Thanks for the response.

what you don't like my dose of reality pick list :joker:

Alan Branch DT
Levi Brown OT
Amobi Okoye DT
LaRon Landry FS
Leon Hall CB
Reggie Nelson FS
Patrick Willis LB
Jammal Anderson DE

of these 8 players we have absouletly no consensus who the Texans value or rate the highest? seems more likely a trade down scenero is the best option if they can find a willing trading partner & still draft one of em :lightbulb:

What you say here is true, and I also would prefer a trade down for extra picks .

I just though it would be interesting to play GM with our first pick in this years draft. Of all the players out there, who would you list 1 -8 as your preference in round one.

If what I have read in he past is true, the GMs pretty much list players they want in each round and scratch them off the list as they are selected by other teams.

I prefer a defensive draft also.

Have one on me :drunk: :D

a couple :beerfunnel: 1st time sampling my "new" IPA excellent should wow the judges best I've ever made (would be my 1st rd. choice) & imperial IPA, big, malty w/plenty of hops (needs more time, will check back in a few weeks).

I would say Peterson/Quinn but I don't want to get my hopes up, yours hopes up or anyone on this boards hopes up.

don't you think irregardless how you might feel about "value" if the Texans pass on a franchise LT it would be more than one times too many? so Levi Brown is my guy, just not sure about what the Texans think about him. I'd also be happy with LaRon Landry or Amobi Okoye. outside chance of Branch/Hall/Willis. if the Texans are able to trade down then I would favor Nelson/Willis/Anderson. so my list in order would look something like-

8 Levi Brown
9 LaRon Landry
10 Amobi Okoye
11 Alan Branch
12 Patrick Willis
13 Leon Hall
14 Reggie Nelson
15 Jammal Anderson
