To be fair, this thread was started almost two years ago..... a few days before our first division crown & play-off berth.
There's nothing to admit here. I believed we could win a Super Bowl with Matt Schaub, & last year there were many people who thought the same. We were the consensus best team in the NFL for a good while there. Many believe we'd have at least been in the Super Bowl had Matt not gotten hurt in 2011.
Things change. In every discussion about Matt's ability or inability to win a Super Bowl with this team I stated, the team has got to play at a level we've rarely seen, but know they're capable of & Matt would have to play at least at that 2009 level.
My only question was whether or not the team & Matt were capable of playing at those levels & with each passing game the answer is becoming more & more clear.
& while I do admit Kubiak continues to learn on the job, there's no doubt in my mind had Schaub not completely choked on him, we'd be where we thought we would be.
I was a proponent of firing Gary after they missed the playoffs after a cupcake 2009 schedule/9-7 record. After that I look at the rest of Rick/Gary's tenure as time wasted.
Mediocrity should never be accepted. I get that change scares some people. But people that are able to change with the times are successful. Gary isn't that guy and Rick is Gary's yes man.
I really like Schaub and would've liked to see how he would have performed without the lisfranc injury. (Although you will never admit that the injury had anything to do with his fall off in performance) He didn't choke.
Gary must have taken the short bus to school if he is still learning (timeout/Challenge useage) after 8 yr on the job.
