Lemme get it out of the way now

Here is my crazy idea for the offseason. We all have one or two before the offseason is over. Usually because the hours upon hours spent debating the same subject over and over with little to no information to base our arguements on makes us a little bit crazy.

This season has already made me a little crazy so im ready to get my crazy idea out of the way now.

SO here it is.

Matt Lienart.. there is a lot of worries about his arm strength. Many NFL folks feel that his weak arm means he will not translate to the NFL very well. I wouldnt be at all surprised to see Vince Young stay for his senior year, and Matt Lienart slide to the middle of the first, by the time April rolls around.

Now.. we have the #1 pick and we will probably take Bush.. that is going to leave NO in an interesting position at the #2 pick. Without Bush on the board, and Lienart not being the elite prospect that was originally expected... they may be more interested in trading down. On top of that, with the troubles they have been having because of the Hurricane, alot of players are going to be very reluctant to go to NO.

SO.. here it is.. are ya ready?

We draft Bush.. then trade DD, our 2007 first round.. and our 2006 2nd and one of our 3rds to NO for the #2 pick.. and take Dbrickshaw Ferguson.

DD would be more likely to go for this, since he is a Louisiana native. I also imagine that whoever we get for our next HC.. they are gonna make solidifying our Oline and Dline their top priority.. and they are gonna be itching to get one of these elite tackle prospects that this draft is so deep in.

:shocked

The cap implications are staggering though. DD just got signed to a big contract.. and signing the #1 and #2 pick in the draft is gonna be a HUGE hit. Then you have the extension for David Carr. Then all these other contracts that are coming to fruition and costing us an arm and a leg.. like Steve McKinney.

But there ya go.. my crazy idea for the offseason. Carry on.

Doesn't NO have Deuce coming back from knee surgery as well? Don't think DD would be very attractive to them unless Deuce is struggling with his rehab.

I said it was a crazy idea :)

Deuce has had injury issues much like DDs.. not so bad that he didnt still contribute alot every year.. but enough that he isnt exactly dependable.

Depending on who they bring in as their next head coach.. they could see RB as a necessary acquisition. Someone to share carries with Deuce.

Davis would be a good fit.

Its not exactly LIKELY.. for a lot of reasons :)...but that is why its a Crazy idea hehe.

Grid,

I do like your creativity and the thought of getting Reggie and Brick can even make this pessimistic fan excited about our future! Seriously, I would be interested to learn what the Saints would want for that pick. If it were a "normal" franchise, I would imagine that they would demand a later first round this year, plus some change. However, the Saints are struggling financially and might make some "unusual" moves this year. Please, keep thinking creatively. Heck, maybe you can become our honorary assistant GM!

Long as ive got a thread going here that isnt too busy.. I was just thinking.

If we do get Bush, and he is near as good as advertised, hes gonna be fun to use in Madden :). It will be like Michael Vick, but as a RB (as Vick should be).

Ive got this "thing" though.. Since the Texan's inception.. I have not bought, and rarely played, Madden. I am waiting for us to make our first postseason appearence.. then I plan to make a big to-do about it the next season when I go and buy Madden for the first time :).

Im waiting for the postseason appearence because our ratings are always so low :).. I figure after the post season, ill be able to play as the Texans without having to "manipulate" the stats too much hehe.

Anyone else out there like me? :)

Iam with you brother, but I have Madden06 and have already created Reggie (#25) for the Texans and he is awsome. I cant wait till its official so I can get my authentic jersey!:redtowel:

Sounds like a horrible plan for us and involves a trade that New Orleans would not accept.

I wouldnt say Horrible :).. I dunno if we will have any tackle prospects as good as Dbrick for a while, and if we have Bush, Davis isnt REALLY necessary anymore. And you would have to trade that much to get the #2 overall pick.

But, yah, its off the wall.. and highly unlikely. But hey, if it does happen, I can claim that im a freakin genius :)

Is Ferguson really going to go within the 1st 3 picks? Maybe if he falls some, we could package our 2nd rounder, almost like a late 1st, with one of our 3rds plus Morency to someone needing more players plus a shifty back who can return punts. Or those two picks plus any other RB we have. We really need to drop one of our HBs if we take Bush: Hollings, Morency, and Wells all have lower contracts than DD and would be easier to trade for cap friendliness. If we believe Babin and Peek are going to be the players they have the potential to be, I also believe Orr's trade value went up a lot with all the sacks he finished the year with. I think we'll need to see how things shape up moving towards April, but I could see us making a move back into the first round for a strong OT.

I'd love to get Bush and Ferguson, but I don't think Brick gets past the 1st 5 picks. A lot will depend on who comes out, though. Vince Young makes it a more interesting draft. I see the Titans grabbing Brick unless Young comes out and somehow slips past New Orleans.
