Leak scores 8 on Wonderlic

well that just completely hurts any chance he had of going before the 6th round....

other wonderlic scores will leak out soon enough.

The guy at the NFL Network said Leak had good knowledge of the game. After all, we found out the Wonderlic means nothing for QBs.

His lack of height is going to hurt him more than his Wonderlic, but I think the guy can play. I just don't know if he will ever start, but I feel he belongs in the NFL, probably as a good backup. It wouldn't shock me if he eventually starts somewhere. QB's throw in lanes anyway, and last time I looked Doug Flutie was no taller and played for years. As to the Wonderlic, VY threw those results into serious question, and others have had low scores and gone on to play well. I am more interested in football intelligence than whether he knows the square root of 168.

ehh the grading is interesting, 50 is really hard to get, even if you get all the answers right. don't ask me how it works.

It's a timed test. I think they only get like 12 minutes. You go through and answer as many as you can in the alloted time. It starts easy and gets progressively harder. For each correct answer, you score one point. If you score a 6, that simply means he answered 6 correctly within the alloted time. The avg person scores about a 23, and the avg football player is around 20 I do believe. If you score over 40, you are flirting with genius level.

40 would be about "high school graduate" level. Many of the questions should take longer to read than to contemplate an answer.

well obviously his height is his biggest detractor, but people threw him the "heady intelligent guy" bone as a reason for he being drafted at all. now i'm not sure where he'll go...

I'd consider myself to be of above average intellect, but I couldn't read a defense to save my life so I won't say Leak can't succeed because he doesn't do well on an intelligence test. I think his stature is his biggest fault.

I haven't yet seen quite the ruckus raised by the Leak faithful as the VY Lovers showed last year when his score was leaked. The tu spin machine was in full automatic mode when his score was rumored. :secret:

probably because young was projected top 5 whilst leak isn't even a first day pick.

You're talking about two different caliber of players...

that'd be like you scoring low, and someone making a thread about you...

I think it was John Lopez that had an article about doing away with this test. Article was in Sunday's Chron. He listed numerous scores both low & high of various QBs and showed test not very accurate @ picking QBs.

Umm..3rd overall pick or second day pick? VY was in the running for the Heisman and dominated in the NC game, while Leak threw for 140 yards...connect the dots.

It's about a group of mental capacity test...Team interviews, the Wonderlic, and questionaires are all a part of trying to get a feel of where the player is at mentally.

No one test by itself can tell you much, but all parts of the evaluation should be taken into consideration.

Which is a classic John Lopez thing to do. Intelligence is but one part of quarterback makeup, just like height, accuracy, and arm strength. It's certainly possible for a short quarterback to do well assuming his other qualities can outweigh his height deficiency.

Furthermore, the wonderlic is just one component of football intelligence. There's also interviews and in game decision making.

If you're about to give someone multi million dollars, you need to administer every test you can think of, and then sort out all the performances.

I don't agree with John Lopez that the Wonderlic Test should be done away with. It doesn't really tell you how good of a qb you will or how bad you will be, but it's another tool for league GMs and scouts. I very much doubt if a wonderlic test score will sway a team one way or another. It's just another way to measure somebody but I don't think it counts for much...

Scores like "8" should be an immediate red flag for the NCAA. They have an obligation to make sure that there is a level field of play, and athletes who can't pass class shouldn't play. If you're scoring <10 (Leak....that's a LESS THAN symbol), you probably had some major help in school. I could score on 8 on the wonderlic, piss drunk.......in 5 minutes. But in no way can I bench 225 20+ times at this point. Please do away with the test because it's a sad reminder of how much stock these players put into making it into the league, because most of them have nothing to fall back on but a couple years in college where the coaches practically took the tests for them.
