1. Oakland - Calvin Johnson, WR, Georgia Tech: You'll start to see a couple of mocks start swinging this way soon enough. Johnson is more of a sure thing than J. Russell and there are rumors circulating about the Raiders being interested in QBs other than Russell.
2. Arizona - (trade) Joe Thomas, LT, Wisconsin: There is a buzz going around that Thomas in the top 3 might not be as good a value as Levi Brown if Brown were to fall out of the top 8. Still, the Cardinals need to get tackle help and they will probably explore a trade to move up.
3. Cleveland - Jamarcus Russell, QB, LSU: It has been my experience that when things leak out like the story that owner Randy Lerner wants the Browns to draft a QB, then it sometimes has some merit despite Lerner's denial. I think there is a shot that Cleveland could try and flip flop with Detroit just to make sure they get Russell if he doesn't go first. If Russell does go within the first two, I think Cleveland goes with Brady Quinn.
4. Tampa Bay - Gaines Adams, DE, Clemson: This is probably the worst case scenario for Tampa with Thomas and Johnson both gone. I would immediately try and move back if this happens. With that said, the Bucs have to address the DE position with rumors of Simeon Rice's departure and Adams is the best DE on the board. Keep a close watch on the Bucs sneaking around for Patrick Willis if they trade back.
5. Detroit - (trade) Adrian Peterson, RB, Oklahoma: Go ahead and get the phones fired up so Detroit can move Tatum Bell because if Peterson is at 5 and Detroit is drafting here, they should grab him. They could shock everyone by looking at Leon Hall (but I doubt it).
6. Washington - Amobi Okoye, DT, Louisville: The Skins need help with their pass rush and Okoye is a terrific pass rushing DT.
7. Minnesota - Laron Landry, FS, LSU: I just can't see the Vikings go with Quinn here and they have to address their pass defense. The Vikes can stop the run, but they had trouble against the pass. Scouts say Landry is a better overall prospect than Roy Williams was coming out.
8. Atlanta - Levi Brown, LT, Atlanta: Obviously the Falcons are praying that Landry gets to them, but this mock draft isn't working out for very many teams, is it? The Falcons have Wayne Gandy at LT and they need to get much, much better at that position and that is what Brown should do for them.
9. Miami - Brady Quinn, QB, Notre Dame: I don't care whether they make a trade for Trent Green or not, the Dolphins clearly don't trust D. Culpepper and Cam Cameron is a head coach who did wonders for Drew Brees and Philip Rivers and could probably do the same for Quinn.
10. Houston - Leon Hall, CB, Michigan: As I've said before, I think the Texans will try and move back to recoup a draft pick, but Hall's workout at the combine was terrific and his stock is on the rise because of it. The Texans need a playmaker and Hall has the ball skills to be considered in this spot.
11. San Francisco - Adam Carriker, DE, Nebraska: While they could use another WR, they will probably look to address that in the second round. Carriker is a great fit for the 3-4 and the Niners are in dire need of finding the right personnel for that defense.
12. Buffalo - Marshawn Lynch, RB, Cal: This one is very tough to call because they could also use Patrick Willis here since they have a need at the MLB spot. However, I can't see the Bills going into the season with Anthony Thomas as the starter and Lynch is very talented.
13. St. Louis - Jamal Anderson, DE, Arkansas: The Rams need to get better against the run and Anderson figures to help more in that regard than newly acquired DE, James Hall. With Leonard Little getting older (32), Anderson could end up playing the weak or strong side by next year.
14. Carolina - Patrick Willis, LB, Ole Miss: Let's take a step back to your high school days and let's take the draft version of the SAT. Middle linebacker Dan Morgan is to concussions as Ole Miss MLB Patrick Willis is to: a) tackles b) speed c)great player in great football conference d) all of the above. Answer is "D".
15. Pittsburgh - Alan Branch, DT, Michigan: The strength of the Steelers is their front 7 on defense and if the Steelers can get Branch to stay hungry (though not literally), they could have a very good player on their hands. Branch can fit into the 3-4 or 4-3.
16. Green Bay - Dwayne Bowe, WR, LSU: The Packers did a nice job in the draft last year including their selection of WR Greg Jennings. Donald Drive is 32 now and the Packers could use another Sterling Sharpe right about now.
17. Jacksonville - Reggie Nelson, FS, Florida: Here's another guy who is a fairly regular player in this slot for me. The Jags need secondary help and Nelson provides it.
18. Cincinnati - Darrell Revis, CB, Pitt: The Bengals have quite a few needs on defense including CB. Revis had a very good workout which will solidify him somewhere near this spot.
19. Tennessee - Greg Olsen, TE, Miami: This spot could just as easily be a CB or WR, but Olsen gives the Titans a chance to run some two tight end sets and gives Vince Young another good-sized target to throw to.
20. NY Giants - Robert Meachem, WR, Tennessee: The Giants are in need of WR help with Toomer with WR Toomer turning 33 this year. Meachem has the deep speed that should take some heat off of Plaxico Burress.
21. Denver - Joe Staley, LT, C. Michigan: Staley is shooting up draft boards around the league after teams saw first hand at his pro day what kind of an elite athlete he is at LT. The Broncos need help at tackle and Staley fits their scheme.
22. Dallas - Chris Houston, CB, Arkansas: Physical CB who excels in press coverage. The Cowboys need secondary help and I'm sure the fact that Houston went to Arkansas doesn't hurt his chances of being drafted here since Jerry Jones is the owner.
23. Kansas City - Ryan Kalil, C, USC: Kalil is very sound with his technique and shows very good strength and foot speed. In fact, some teams think he might be able to slide over and play guard as well as center. Either way, the Chiefs need the help up front.
24. New England - Lawrence Timmons, OLB, Florida State: There is a lot of garbage going around that Timmons stock is hurt by his average workout, but the fact is that he is plenty fast enough and is a good blitzer which is the type of versatility that New England likes with their LBs.
25. NY Jets - Jarvis Moss, DE, Florida: Moss will have some trouble fitting in with a 4-3 team because he has trouble against the run, but his edge speed will be what a 3-4 defense covets.
26. Philadelphia - Brandon Meriweather, FS, Miami: Let's face it, Brian Dawkins may be listed as a free safety, but he's pretty average in coverage these days. Meriweather would be Dawkins eventual replacement but he would also be able to help the Eagles in different defensive packages right away.
27. New Orleans - Aaron Ross, CB, Texas: Saints CB Fred Thomas was featured on television throughout the playoffs. Unfortunately, most of the time it was to show someone beating him down the field. Saints are lucky to get Ross here.
28. New England - Paul Posluszny, LB, Penn State: Another LB? Vrabel and Bruschi aren't getting any younger and the addition of Posluszny will continue to make their front seven a strength. Pats need CB help too so this could be a trade back spot so they can target a CB in the 2nd round.
29. Baltimore - Anthony Spencer, DE/OLB, Purdue: Purdue has cranked out a ton of DEs who have been successful in the 4-3 and 3-4. The Ravens will look to replace Adelius Thomas and Spencer gives the Ravens a pass rusher who is pretty decent against the run.
30. San Diego - Ted Ginn, WR, Ohio State: Ginn's foot injury has been slow to heal and teams still haven't seen Ginn run which is hurting his stock. His slight stature is another concern. His deep ball speed would be a welcome addition for the Chargers offense.
31. Chicago - Justin Harrell, DT, Tennessee: Defensive tackle? Again? That's right. Tank Johnson's psycho act has to scare the Bears and they have lost depth at DT. This would be the Bears kind of guy and Harrell would fit into the Bears defenisve line rotation.
32. Indianapolis - Ben Grubbs, OG, Auburn: I had a hard time deciding between Grubbs and Dwayne Jarrett, but this is a deep WR draft and the Colts can find some help in the 2nd or 3rd round at WR while Grubbs is the best OG on the board.
