Super excited to watch games live at the best venue for college football in Texas as I just registered for my sports pass! :cow:

Don't you think this renovation was partially planned prior to Johnny's first game? This was probably part of their plan when they moved to the SEC.

I think it's great for A&M. It certainly will be a massive and beautiful facility.

Though I have no clue, I'd have to think so. Manziel and Sumlin have rejuvenated the program after the crappy Franchione-Sherman years, adding more energy and hype and adding more national awareness of Texas A&M to the program. I think the stadium might have happened anyway, but the initial success is what spurred the construction as soon as it did. I'm sure the university wants to seize on its advantage at the moment.

Unfortunately our home schedule isn't the best it's ever been. Our first game in the newly developed stadium is against some cupcake (Lamar). We do have the Thanksgiving night game with LSU coming down, so that's a highlight, but other than that, Ole Miss, and Mizzou, our schedule sucks.
 
That place is going to be insanely loud with these upgrades.

I saw a game there a couple of years ago when my son's team visited (SFA). It was fun to be there, even as an opposing team's fan. The atmosphere itself is worth the visit, and we were treated great by every single A&M fan we came across.

Hopefully they upgrade those atrocious and horribly designed ramps into the stands. Talk about stuffing a five pound bologna into a two pound sack! They desperate need to make more walkways into the seats, as well as widen the aisles in the seat areas themselves. That was my only complaint, but it was a huge pain in the butt.

I think the move to the SEC was a really, really smart move by A&M. They may have the recruiting edge over UT now that they are the only Texas school within the SEC and their revenue from TV increased dramatically. They are also much more well known. I think the stadium renovations would certainly have happened anyway.

Looks like they were talking about renovations in April of 2012:

“Whatever the decision is, we're going to abide by it, knowing ultimately that we're going to have one of the finest facilities in the country," Sumlin said.

With president R. Bowen Loftin admitting the economic need to keep the Aggies in College Station, a demolition-and-rebuild isn't likely to be the first option. That honor probably belongs to a potential section-by-section renovation of Kyle Field, one that would keep it open throughout the project's duration. Constructing a new stadium on a separate, nearby site is another possibility.

"You don't want to take anything off the table," athletic director Bill Byrne said in January. "But the most likely scenario from my perspective is that we (renovate) in stages. A deck at a time."

Whatever plan is eventually adopted, construction is expected to begin at the close of the Aggies' 2013 football season. It's also a safe bet that the plan will be eye-opening and not cheap; the school has hired architectural firm Populous, whose other credits include Yankee Stadium and the Olympic Stadium for this summer's London Games.

I hear ya. The ramps suck (the student ones are cramped as hell) and they're being replaced by those new brick end towers which should make it easier getting up and down. The student section is always super cramped, and there's almost no place to stand (much less link arms for the War Hymn) but the student section has gotten some improvement. I believe work on the other side (west and North) will happen next year, after the coming season.

And the noise on the ground level should be deafening. They've lowered the playing field to funnel more noise to the bottom.

Huh, looks like the Athletic Department knew what they were doing all along.

I'm just glad the move to the SEC started off much better than it could have. We didn't have the greatest seasons of all time but in context it should provide a good springboard for the next few years.

That is, if our team can avoid getting arrested. CSPD has nailed like three guys for stupid offenses like swearing or being loud by citing "public disturbances". One of the guys in the mix for the starting QB job was found wasted in a flowerbed outside a bar in Northgate, so there's that too. No idea how long he will be suspended for but he was the heir apparent to Manziel. The starting job looks unclear now which is a bad thing since our first game is @ South Carolina.

Both A&M and Missouri did a fantastic job transitioning into the conference. Missouri struggled in that first year but really showed they belong this year.

About the QB position, something tells me Sumlin will get it figured out.

Something tells me Mizzou, LSU, & Bama are going to turn into great rivalries. LSU is already something of a rivalry. Mizz had a fantastic year, and I think they'll do well under Maty Mauk this coming season.

Most likely planning started years ago.

However, Johnny made A&M relevant again. Sumlin is going to have to pull a rabbit out of his butt to keep them there.

Obviously the word "relevance" has different meaning.


When I used it, I used it to mean no one gave a sht about A&M football before JFF.

When infantrycak used it, he meant A&M was accepted (or invited) to the SEC for something of relevance, which had to be something other than their football program, because their football program wasn't relevant before Johnny Manziel.

To the contrary, football was the focus of the move. UT was launching the Longhorn network. A&M helped the SEC with viewership in Texas.

I know you don't watch much college football but you are old enough to remember passed the 2000's to when A&M was a very relevant football school. We had a tough decade but the trams of the 90s and past were some great squads...wrecking crew defense!

Don't bother, judging by his posts in the Manziel thread he seems to be a fan of a rival school. Don't wanna assume UT but it would explain the bitterness, since Tech and Baylor are doing pretty fine and have little to be butthurt about.
 
it should be the house that johnny helped build faster. the move to the sec was bringing in major donations already; his ascent just expedited the donation process.

Yes, I remember when A&M was relevant..... I live in that one place outside of College Station where we have more A&M alum/fans than UT alum/fans... heck, we've got more LSU alum/fans than we have UT.

But like you said, I also remember that drought, where they weren't relevant.

Johnny's two years is going to seem like 15 minutes if they're not any good next year, or the year after. But I here they're doing really, really well recruiting, so we'll see.
