Kubiak's Next Destination

He's doing a fine job with the team that John Fox built. :fingergun: hehe

I do find it amusing that Kubiak and Wade are one win away from a Super Bowl. I think they will get outcoached this weekend based on previous history, but it is still an achievement to be in a conference championship game. That's something we have not even sniffed in Houston for 35+ years.

Saw something today that said Brady is 2-6 in Denver with the wins coming against Danny Kanell and Tim Tebow.

I think that's the team John Elway built.

You mean the same John Elway who calls up Rick Smith whenever he wants just to fleece a trade and steal away a draft pick or two from us? I love me some Kubiak and Wade but I wish they were having that success here and not in freakin' Denver.

They'd probably still be here if we had signed Peyton Manning that off-season when he left Indianapolis. He wanted to come here too. We put all of our eggs in the Matt Schaub basket and he was horrible coming off that foot injury. Thanks, Albert Haynesworth! The biggest scumbag in NFL History. He should have been kicked out of the league when he stomped on Andre Gurode's head.

I don't want to see Kubiak and Wade reach Super Bowl 50. Go Patriots! I'm sorry but it would make me feel bad seeing them win a championship when it could have been here. Although that blame should be placed ultimately on Bob McNair and even Rick Smith.

I was referring to Rick Smith's reluctance to give up the pick as shown on HBO's Hard Knocks. But Elway still convinced him to part ways with the pick as he was driving to NRG Stadium. It appeared to be total mind control. Although to be fair we were desperate for O-Line depth. If the Broncos end up winning the Super Bowl with our ex coaching staff I'm going to be livid!!!!!!

I think Kubiak is a great dude. I'm glad he isn't our coach anymore but I don't wish him any harm moving forward. I won't be cheering for the Broncos but if they win then good for him.

I'd really like to see Arizona win. I love the way they've built that team.

Yep, pretty much.

I really do not care what Kubiak does or does not do anymore. But, watching 5 FGs and 1 TD sure did bring back some memories. lol

Funny thing watching that game yesterday is that you could feel it was a Kubiak coached team by the pacing of it all. Keep the score close until the end sort of thing that he did here for years.

If you think kubiak won this game with his decision making and play calling I got beach front property in Oklahoma I want to sell you.

There's always some excuse. Reality is a cold hard b!tch ain't she?

Actually John Fox was just the coach, Elway built that team. Either way, people cannot talk so much **** about Kubiak and swear he was done. But when he succeeds in both jobs he takes elsewhere. I expect some people--not saying you specifically--should just eat their crow and STFU.

Yes the game looked very much like games we watched here in Houston. But they pulled it out anyway against a very good Steelers team, even with Manning throwing slow motion passes all day long. Kubiak and Phillips serving up crow to their critics, and Uncle Bob has to be fuming.

The Denver season (including their playoff game as it's replaying right now) would look a lot different if Manning could hit a deep pass. 10 of 39 on throws of 21+ yards which as we know are the homerun (and often easiest throws) in Kubiak's system. I've watched many of the Denver games this year, and yes, they were very open. There were 6 official drops against the Steelers, all for first downs, but it's the big play that's missing. Unlike Schaub who frustratingly underthrew every long ball - at least he got the completion. Manning misses to the over - out of bounds or out of reach.

As I type Manning overthrows a play-action to an open Thomas for a 40 yard touchdown.

There's a whole lot of blame to go around for Denver's offensive struggles. Injured line not built for the system, Manning not able to play under center to support the run game, etc ... but much gets wiped away if Manning could hit the big throws.

Edit: and Wade hates when things get weird - a horrible matchup against New England. The Denver defense hasn't spent enough time together mixing Wade's zone blitzes, and get caught time after time messing up outside coverages. If Wade can't trust his man coverage schemes, there is potential trouble. Against Edelman and Amendola being man to man nightmares inside - it's going to be a long day unless his corners are able to knock them out on the bump (an actual possibility).

I really don't get the Kubiak hate. Arguing him not being a coach here I can understand and appreciate and disagree with (a lot lol). Hometown guy with Son of Bum as his coordinator who took us from David Carr expansion team to consecutive 10+ win Division Championships. I realize that 2013 is all anyone sees, but to blame the guy for 2013 or being successful 5 of the past 6 years (and in the AFC Championship game in spite of Peyton Manning) is petty. And to root for the Patriots out of jealousy? Sad.

I was all ready to contradict you with the 78 and 79 AFC Title games so the plus only goes to 36. But I agree that time sure flies when you're living your own life instead of following others who are living theirs.

Yeah, I don't get the hate, either. It was obviously time for him to move on when it happened - 2-14 will do that to a coach - but I'll always appreciate Kubiak's accomplishments, if for nothing else not having to live a Saints-like history of the first 20 years without a winning season.

I like Kubiak, but not as our head coach. I think he's a Marty Schottenheimer type HC who will get his teams to win and the playoffs, but eventually gets out-coached by someone like Belichick. It might sound like an underhanded compliment, but that's not how I intend it. I'm just analyzing history and trends. Maybe Kubes will shock us (me) this weekend and pull out a win. I'd be happy for him and Wade (and even Manning), even though I'd like to see Brady get a fifth ring to cement his legacy. I've got nothing against any of them. It's not like they were ever tainted by working for the Colts.

Gary Kubiak is a fine head coach and we shouldn't have let him go after that 2-14 season. The one who should have been fired, but wasn't, was Rick Smith. What will you say about Kubiak if he beats the Patriots and the Panthers/Cardinals to win Super Bowl 50 as head coach of the Broncos? I don't really want to find out which is why I'm pulling for the Patriots to win.

I'm going to reference my previous post as a prediction this weekend. If Manning is accurate with the deep ball (Thomas will probably drop a couple of them), Broncos win. If he isn't, Broncos lose.

The only way I remember Brady being beat is with a strong running game and lots of pressure. Key is hitting Brady a lot

Kubiaks next destination? SUPER BOWL!!!

Belichick and Brady are obviously a bad matchup for 31 teams, but they're really bad for Denver ... Pat Chaos vs Denver Precision. Brady gets the ball out too fast for the rush, and it's impossible to man up across the board with 3+ interior targets ... and attempting to do so is where player X has 100 yards because he isn't accounted for. Wade hasn't gotten his zone schemes synced up yet, and is behind the 8-ball going into this one. I'll predict right now that Belichick adds a little rule book magic in this one.

Horrible matchup on the other side as well. New England is great at sitting on outside routes (Manning can't hit throws past 15 yards) and can take away crossers with their excess of mobile linebackers - something I've been harping on for a while now. Denver would probably be in a better place (again) without their Hall of Fame quarterback - even though I think Brock is a horrible quarterback. Run, screen, zone bust and homerun ... execute Kubiak's system to hold the ball and drive the field. For Denver to win it needs to be a Ron Dayne vs Manning game. Win the middle, avoid giving up the big play, run run run - and run, and get the turnover.

That said, I think this is going to be a very VERY fun game. I'm rooting for Denver and the hometown guys of course. I restate my prediction, the game is going to come down to Manning hitting the deep ball, but I'll addend to include a lesser (and obvious) - turnovers. Manning is giving them out like candy, and Belichick knows exactly what bait to use.

Patriots at Broncos in AFC Championship: Ten things to know

3. Brady is 6-8 in his career against the Broncos (including playoffs), making them the only team against whom Brady has a losing record. He’s 0-2 on the road against them in the postseason, which includes the 2013 AFC Championship Game against Manning.
6.The Broncos rushed for 179 yards against the Patriots in Week 12, which was the highest total given up by New England this season.

All hope is not lost for Denver... hoping it's a great game with two of the best ever

Elway is looking for Kubiak to do exactly what he did to get him two rings - precision passing as an accompaniment to clock breaking running. But the Pats can see this train coming. Just don't think Wade can stop Brady's short game.

I think their only shot is to hit him early and often like the Giants did... pressure up the middle to move him off his spot, and you have to disrupt the timing for Edelman and Gronk so he can't release the ball in 2.13 seconds

Kubiak doesn't have the line and neither back is in the same sentence as Davis or even Foster ... (tough to square peg in his first season). The Pats are geared up to derail that train. Wade is weak against the short passing game as you've eluded to. However, I don't see this or either game today getting out of hand. I'm not sure how to find the stat, but I assume it's been a good while that the top 4 are in the Conference Championships, as well as being the top defenses. 'The best weekend in football' may very well live up to that billing.

What's really funny to me is that if Denver goes on to win, Manning will be 'Manning', but will probably have done the job mimicking Dilfer ... do your job, convert the easy ones and don't turn it over. "Peyton frickin Manning" needs to be the best game manager he can be. He hasn't figured that title out yet, and compounds that deficiency by his inability to hit any longer passes - tough to do when you have to heave it just to make the throw.

IMO this is the anchor of playoff football. Pats, Giants, Ravens, etc ... Much like offense wins games and defense wins championships, outside wins regular season but to advance you have to win up the middle. Ware and Miller aren't scaring Belichick, it's Wolfe and Smith and Williams and the rest who can mess up his day.

What now guys? Do we cheer for the Panthers or Cardinals to beat the Broncos in Super Bowl 50? Or do we just applaud and respect the great job that ex Texans head coach Gary Kubiak, defensive coordinator Wade Phillips and tight end Owen Daniels all did with the Denver Broncos?

Truth be told it was Bob McNair's ultimate decision to let them go. Had he wanted all three of them to stay here in Houston he could have made it happen that way. Any bitterness or blame I have is on Bob McNair not on those three classy men.

And also Peyton Manning. When he left the Colts and was a free agent expressing interesting in coming to Houston. Once again it was Bob McNair who chose not to aggressively explore that possibility.

Congrats to the Denver Broncos. Good luck in Super Bowl 50.
Not sure who I want to win. I have to see the Panthers/Cardinals game now.

My thesis whiffed badly. Wade was able to muddle the coverage allowing outside pressure to dictate the game. The outcome went about as predicted with the game going down to the wire, but I most certainly didn't predict that it would be coverage and outside rush that did it.

Maybe so but you were on track. The interior rush from Denver was so strong that NE couldn't leave those guys in one on ones. They had to choose and decided to leave their OTs on an island.

There goes Kubiak's guys winning in spite of him again.
LOL, I'll say one thing... It's a good thing the Broncos are going to Super Bowl 50 this year and not Super Bowl 51 next year at NRG Stadium in Houston.

Can you imagine if the Broncos reached the Super Bowl, in our city and in our own stadium, with our ex coaching staff and a couple of our ex players, who were both vital in their AFC Championship win? Bob McNair has to be feeling a little embarrassed as it is. At the very least he didn't make the right decisions.

I'm still not sure if I'll cheer for the Broncos to win Super Bowl 50. I may have to become a fan of the NFC Champion for one game. Panthers or Cardinals. At this point I'd like to see Cam Newton win a Super Bowl ring. So I'm probably leaning towards the Panthers now.

I love Cam Newton. I'd love to see him win a Super Bowl. So for this game, definitely rooting for Superman.

Cardinals never really done anything for me. I respect Arians as a HC... but that's about it.

Super Bowl, I'm rooting for the AFC team. Closest thing I've got to a hometown connect is Wade Phillips & he deserves a ring imo

Turns out all they needed was a 3-man rush.

I absolutely hate 3 man rushes, but Wade was on point with when and how he sent those 3. He was able to single up an edge rusher to push Brady up into the other two, and his drop zone from the other side kept taking away Brady's initial read. If you can trigger the quarterback's clock with 3 and at the same time confuse coverage - you're doing something very well.

Let me see if I've got this straight. Gary Kubiak and Wade Phillips are going to the Superbowl. Where are we going???

Number of members here said Fire Kubiak. Broncos got the most of our coaches and some of ex Texans. Now, they are going to Superbowl. I wonder if it was a huge mistake on Texans' FO part for firing Kubiak. I am not saying that BOB is a bad hire but man, think of what might happen if we kept him. I know, we would still need QB but man, it just gets to me.

I loved Kubiak when he was here. I thought he truly was an offensive genius! The same goes for Wade on the defensive side.

But, even after seeing the Broncos make the SB, I think it was the right move to let Gary go. Football is very situational. It's a lot of being at the right place at the right time.

Good luck Kubes! I'll be rooting for ya!

Kubiak is an avg HC.

Wade wasn't Gary's 1st choice to be DC. Joseph was, sometimes it's better to be lucky than great. Best thng that happened to the Broncos was Peyton getting hurt and sitting out a few games to save his arm.

See what a good FO can do.

I miss kubes n wade how are u going to fire a man after he has a stroke at work ..??????

I sometimes daydream about where this team might be if Koobs is still here.
Kubiak not being here is his own fault. He stuck with an injury prone QB who couldn't win in prime time or big games and didn't adequately prepare for life after Schaub when he had his foot injury.

Absurd... They guy had just won back-to-back division championships and the franchises first ever playoff wins with a somewhat sketchy QB situation, during and after the Schaub injury. I said it then, and I still believe they did Kubiak dirty and scapegoated him after one horrid season. And to add insult to injury they did not even let him finish the season. Reportedly so they could land our current wonder coach who brought Fitzpatrick and Hoyer in as his starting QB's. Genius I tell you. Pure genius.

And to add insult to injury they did not even let him finish the season.

I thought the same thing, but someone "in the know" told me Kubiak asked to be released. They weren't letting him do his job. He didn't want to be part of that thing any longer.

I don't know how true that is, but it makes more sense than McNair firing a man he's been so patient with weeks after an on-field mini-stroke.

Kubiak is a lot of things. A quitter is not one of them. I don't believe a word of it. There is no reason McNair would take the blame if Kubiak asked to be released. They probably would have said "Kubiak stepped down because of health reasons" if that were the case. McNair made it clear he wanted change. So whomever this anonymous person is, IMO is full of bovine excrement.

Like I said, who knows how true it is. To me, it just makes more sense. & I wouldn't look at it as quiting, more of an ultimatum, "Let me do my job, or l'm out."

I know it's an impossible wish. I know I will never get an answer to the one thing I want to know more than anything else. Nobody is going to speak their mind and nobody is going to be completely honest about it but if I could have one wish where the Texans are concerned right now and from 2013 going forward I wish I could somehow "will" Gary Kubiak to honestly answer the question "Why couldn't you make this work here?".

I don't want to hear "It's on me". I want to hear exactly what the issue was in Houston that could not make a Gary Kubiak offense and a Wade Phillips defense come together into being a Super Bowl team. Why did Wade's Houston defense look so inept against New England in 2012 and fall apart in 2013? Why did he suddenly become the master of blitzes again in Denver? Why did Kubiak's offense unravel in Houston and work in Denver? What was it?

Front office?
GM?
Coaches not being experienced enough?
Players not executing?

I know each of the questions have been answered at one time or another but much of what we've heard I think we all know has been filtered through the "Professional/Social Contract" of working in the NFL. You don't want to burn a bridge or make an enemy unnecessarily and I get that but damn I wish someone would just speak their f'in mind and explain what's wrong with this team.

And no not somebody like us sitting on a message board and making their best grudge-based guess.
