Kubiak's Next Destination

Really?

Then why did the best defense in the league wait until 2 minutes to go in the 4th quarter to intercept Schaub and force overtime? Since they know which play was coming, why didn't they jump the route and put the game away in the first half and coast? Did they forget that they knew which plays were being called, and then remember later?

Why did Kansas City let San Diego score 41 points on them if they knew what plays were coming? KC had a top defense? And how did the Eagles "know what was coming" against the Redskins this year? The Eagles defense was average against scoring and worst against yards? Certainly not "good" by league standards.

And why do "good" defenses know the plays but others don't? Is it a secret that only good coaches know? How have they keep that secret away from the other teams?

Or is there something the Texans and Redskins had in common...? :hmmm:

Knowing what's coming & being able to stop it is what separates the good defenses from the bad ones.

We're going to throw the ball to Andre Johnson. We've been doing it for years & no one can stop us. We've been running the same predictable plays since 2006 & Andre is having one career year after another.

Richard Sherman said he knew Schaub was going to throw that ball to OD... had Schaub thrown a good pass, Sherman wouldn't have had a play. It just so happens that Schaub floated it for fear of his life, Sherman capitalized on that mistake. It wasn't that he knew what was coming, it was that Schaub screwed up.

Let's just put this past season behind us lol.

Sherman said that with that situation they knew the Texans liked to run that play, he anticipated based on what the Texans showed, Matt threw a poor pass and Sherman capitalized. The other teams we faced after that had it that much easier to do because the Texans kept doing the same thing all the time. I even knew what play was coming on 3rd and 5 or more 70% of the time... and I'm an admitted drunk not a football guru

What I stated has nothing to do with McNair or his treatment of Gary .... but the specific posters attitudes towards Kubiak and others over the years. One minute they love them , the next they want to eat their children ....

I always go to an idea of a proverbial "football bubble" when talking to fans.

Sometimes my buddies and I get into deep discussions about football that someone from the outside would think we are pissed off and arguing. Even to the point where they try to be 'peacemakers' of sorts.

Which always throws us off because none of us are upset at all. We are just passionate football fans. So I coined the idea of a "football bubble", where we are allowed to be fanatics and say things that are contained in that sort of virtual reality.

And that's how I often perceive this forum. I'd imagine that even the folks with lots of vitriol over the years toward Kubiak (or whoever) would probably be nice to his face and appreciate the man himself. I do not think the majority of opinions are personal toward Gary Kubiak the man, but rather fanatical takes toward Kubiak the head coach.

Maybe the "football bubble" concept is kind of weird, but it helps us define the idea that it is all talk, opinion, and speculation within the world of an entertainment medium, if that makes sense.

Of course, we have no actual knowledge of how Harbaugh feels about Kubiak. They're "reports", and reports can be and are wrong. I'm just saying "if" Harbaugh had a problem with Kubiak as OC. The more I think about it, I can't see Kubiak taking an assistant position where the head coach doesn't really want him.

I know it's true because it was on the internets. The internets would never lie to us...

I like sarcasm when the subject is worthy of sarcasm. But I'm serious about the fate awaiting mockers and scorners who think there is no God and no Judgement. I am grieved that so many will go willingly into the eternal torment that awaits them when there is no reason to. But just as Satan would not overcome his Pride, neither do many of his followers, whether they acknowledge Satan of not.

Do you have to bring this horse$hit up in every goddamn thread?

We should form a group of us and create our own radio show. Drunks guys who analyze sports. Sounds good, huh?

Not sure how good it would be, but hilarious as hell I'm sure :barman:

It's the JB and The Drunks Show

We'll analyze anything. Football, cheerleader breast sizes, and the proper way to drink!

It'll be a hit. We'll be famous. :)

I realize you guys are being tongue in cheek with these comments regarding a Radio Show, but I offered to let some guys do a weekly show just like that, with their take on the "State of the Texans" on my radio station, but got no takers.

I think it would be very entertaining, especially if adult beverages were consumed before, and during the recording. So if anyone is serious about doing something like that, PM me and let's make it happen.

Carr Bombed PM'd me with some rather shocking pictures. If I was being honest, Carr Bombed looked better in the pink panties than TheIronDuke, but he did wear the baby blue well.

Im a comando kind of guy and don't wear men's underwear much less women's so obviously somebody sent you some bunk pictures. :)

Good for Gary Kubiak and all that. But if this is true, that sucks for John Harbaugh. The guy delivered a Lombardi trophy to the owner a year ago. And the team's decline had a lot more to do with free agent losses, retirements, and injuries than poor coaching.

There's a time for an owner to step in and impose his will (McNair hiring Wade, for instance). One year after a Super Bowl win is not that time. I can't see how foisting Kubiak on Harbaugh will be good for team chemistry. Maybe Harbaugh (a career 5-1 vs. Kubiak) knows something that the owner and GM don't?

Bisciotti is a different owner than the other 31 in that he expects results every year.

It used to be that a HC got a 5 year window after winning the SB; Bisciotti is not that guy.

He wants to win every year. Winning the SB in 2012 was in 2012. 2013 was a failure by his standards because they failed to make the playoffs. Even after 5 years of playoffs, 3 AFC championships and 1 SB, 2013 wasn't a good enough performance by the players, Coaching staff and the Front Office. Everyone is on notice.

As far as Harbs, he is on notice now for his blind loyalty in bringing a lot of ex-Eagles assistants; Spagnolu, Juan Castillo, etc.

Harbs hired Caldwell to be the QB coach; when Cameron was let go, Caldwell stepped in to call the plays- same offense. Same for this year. But worst oline, losses at WR/TE due to injury/contracts, running game disappearing.

One note to mention: Ravens have been running the Zone Blocking scheme for about 3-4 years- not exclusively but about 35% of the plays. Castillo is a master at teaching it.

Kubiak, Dennison as QB coach, Pariani as TE coach will work well to mesh all these pieces together.

Reports are that Harbaugh was out of the loop when it came to this hire. In other words, Newsome and the owner are forcing Kubiak on Harbaugh. So it would not be too much of a stretch to believe that if Kubiak wanted to play "The Good Ol' Boy" game he could have.

Turns out this was all BS.

APOLOGY NECESSARY: Harbaugh a BIG Factor in Kubiak Hiring

Ozzie Newsome was never involved in the coaching discussions (regarding Kubiak)*. Steve Bisciotti wanted to hire Kyle Shanahan. Seeking feedback on Shanahan, John Harbaugh called Rick Dennison with whom he had a previous relationship. During that conversation Dennison shared that Gary Kubiak wanted the Ravens OC job and only that job.

The Ravens, according to the source, were under the impression that Kubiak would not coach in 2014. Dennison quickly dispelled that notion and soon thereafter Harbaugh called Kubiak.

The decision to hire Kubiak was completely John Harbaugh’s.

Fans are a collective bunch of morons about things that go on in NFL front offices. This story is case in point.

And here is the official story from the Ravens themselves:

Byrne Identity: John Harbaugh A Non-Factor? Please!

It's hard to say what's real anymore. I remember a story with Harbaugh saying Kubiak wasn't even being considered. So do we believe this now, or believe that other one?

The two aren't inconsistent. Kubiak wasn't a consideration when they thought he would take a year off.

Perhaps it's hard to say what's real for you, but this story is open and shut.

Some writer gets an 'anonymous' tip and reports it. He did not confirm the facts but ran with the rumor.

Then he gets thoroughly debunked by the franchise, GM, owner, head coach, and front office.

He apologizes for rushing to print a story based on a rumor.

Case closed.

When the team comes out and flatly denies a story, much less provides the level of detail in the articles, I think it is rather obvious who to believe.

Now apply to the Texans. They never came out either way with the process for hiring Wade, so we are left with stories from McClain, Pastorini, and Bum.

This Ravens story is not ambiguous. John Harbaugh clearly wanted Kubiak as soon as he found out he was available and wanted to be the Ravens OC.

I don't know why I keep reading your name as Carr Bonged instead of Carr Bombed. I know you spelled it right, but...

There are at least 2 threads on the Ravens board (russellstreetreport.com) with over 100 pages each on how it happened, who knew what when, and what does it mean. Fans are crazy and stupid.

First there were the reports that Kubiak was seen in Baltimore, then we got this...

Dave Zangaro ‏@DZangaro
No Kubiak. Thought he'd fit there. RT @Ravens: Coach John Harbaugh names 4 candidates in the OC search. FULL STORY | http://bit.ly/1kUtM68

I am very disappointed that Harbaugh didn't seriously consider Kubes....Harbaugh's loyalty gene is going to get him fired.....

Then there's a report that Shanahan is the front runner....

Then a report that Kubiak met with Ravens' "officials"

Then Kubiak is hired.

Then it's reported that Biscoti was upset with the failure that was 2013.

Then Harbaugh denies he was not part of the hire.

Then the reporter recants... Sounds like damage control to me. But whatever, that's in Maryland.

 maybe I should have started with us signing Ed Reed.

And .... its all opinion. No one knows the truth other than the guy's involved.

Can't wait to see what the offense's production will be. Guess we'll see if his scheme is really that stale and predictable or if he/it just needed that oft' referred to "change of scenery".

That and not having to deal with HC responsibilities.

Will be watching the Birds next season a little closer probably.

What does my clothing preferences have to do with smoking pot?

Oh well, if the man did stay out of my business and let me recreationally smoke marijuana I would.. but he doesn't so I don't.. not if I want to work. Alcohol is 100 times worse, but that's another topic for another forum.

Except for having Texan_Bill's expertise you just described "The Blitz" on ESPN 97.5 so you guys already have some competition. I'm thinking you guys could give them a run for their money though.
:fingergun:

Doesn't matter. Kubes is there now with his crew and will do well.

Still wish him all the best
. :handshake:
With the obvious exception of when they play us, I agree.
I bear Kubiak no ill will.
I mean, what would be the point?

Figures...

Who knows, could be damage control because it made Harbaugh look weak, or the reporter could have been too fast on the draw. They are always looking to scoop each other.

I think not having the HC duties on his shoulder will make a huge difference. I think in the end, Kubiak may be like many others who make excellent coordinators, but mediocre HC's. We shall see. I still see him getting another shot at HC. Plenty of other mediocre HC's out there anyway.

The Blitz is my favorite radio show in Houston. That'll be tough competition. Those dudes are consistently funny and entertaining.

Yea but an Internet based show is not restricted by FCC rules. The Internet is anything goes, and I can see a real show competing if it were taken seriously, and had knowledgeable personalities, but that requires panning, writers, etc.

Should be funny if taken seriously enough not to be taken too seriously.

Oh, I agree. It could be a lot of fun to listen to because of the nature of an internet show. As long as you have good bumper music, of course. :headbang:

I wonder if the reports don't come down to what most would consider a relatively minor disagreement. Two of the last three candidates standing were Kubiak and Shanahan so at least for them the philosophy/system is essentially the same. Maybe Harbaugh leaned youth (and not having a former HC around) and Ozzie favored experience (why get the pupil if you can get the teacher).

Add the Owner Bsiciotti in there also...

Radio still talking about it here...
