Kubiak

Jack Bauer

Rookie
I haven't seen this posted, so I apologize if it has. I know this is the foregone conclusion, but: I was watching channel 2 news last night and Randy said the Kubiak hire was a done deal and that Kubiak has already started assembling his coaching staff. Justice's article this morning basically assumes it is Kubiak. Has anyone seen this elsewhere?

Randy McIlvoy's Blog

Kubiak was unofficially offered the job on the day of his interview. Jerry Gray is likely to be DC. The only debate left is who to pick in the draft.

Although I am a bit concerned with the Greg Davis as QB coach rumor going around. My source close to the organization would not comment on this or the draft situation.

So what if the Broncs go all the way?
Will that hurt the Texans as far as 'getting a head start' for next year if Kubiak can't start until Feb. sometime?

The short answer is "It could". I'm not sure what the rules are about a team talking with the prospective HC to find out who he would like to hire as assistants and then going to interview those guys and have them lined up pending the new HCs approval when he gets on board. If we DON'T talk to the prospective assistants then they will probably drift away. However, if Gary KNOWS he will be the guy when the shooting is over, he might be talking to some of the guys to let them know to stay tuned. Just not sure what the rules are for any of this though.

Kubiak already has a basic skeleton of assistants he will hire, and there has been contact. He will take several coaches from the Broncos, possibly o-line coach from Cleveland as OC, and Jerry Gray is likely to be DC/Assistant HC.

If Kubiak is the guy I hope he already knows who his assistants will be. I think as long as Kubiak talks to them about being assistants it will be fine.

If Kubiak is the guy, why are the Texans asking permission to interview Russ Grim, O-Line coach for the Steelers, for the head coaching job. If it is a foregone conclusion, why interview another guy you are going to have wait for the playoffs to end before being able to interview?

How much say so will Kubiak have in the draft? Are the Texans locked on Bush?

Number 1, they want to interview other guys to get an impression of them so the next time they need a HC they will already have an impression, as happened with Kubiak, They may be thinking of them for other coaching positions so they get a feel for them there (see Jerry Gray), they can also mine them for knowledge and opinions on the team, as it's important to get a broad range of opinion. Why limit yourself?

Do we want Kubiak after this Saturday? Or would we be happier with him if he went deep into the playoffs and possibly won the Super Bowl? I'm torn.

Nah, we need a hungry Kubiak...;)

I thought about that. In a way, I would like to see the team get to the Super Bowl. If the Broncos lose, however, it will be because of their defense. If this is how it works out, I am okay with it.

Ponder this.
Broncs go to AFC Champioship and lose, then the coaching staff gets to go to Hawaii for the Pro-Bowl. Does the Texans have any pull to say he cannot go cuz he needs to get here and get started, or do they have to wait until thats over. If it were my team and Kubiak is my guy, I would say go and enjoy it.

If he's our guy, then I'm rooting for him to win. Bring that shiny new Championship ring to the locker room next year and show this franchise what it's all about.

Kubiak will be hungry, because he knows he's got to prove himself as a HC. That's a whole new level.

B/c they are asking each candidate to evaluate our personnel and possible draft plans. McNair wants as many outside opinions as he can get, considering is lack of confidence in Casserly.

Why hasn't Kubiak gotten a job as a head coach before now? Could it be because he's an underwhelming interview. The only guy who interviews him is McNair. And even he passed him over last time.

The head coach is the most important decision this offseason. The candidates I've heard on TV (especially the guy from San Diego) are underwhelming. Let's pick a coach that'll last for 10 years, how bout it?

You're completely inaccurate in your statements. I've pointed out that inaccuracy in previous posts, so if you want details, just click on my post history. However, just off the top of my head, Kubiak has declined job offers and/or interviews from the Patriots, Saints, Univ. of Colorado, and Browns. The only job he's been turned down for was the Texans.

the job is kubiak's...it's a horrible kept secret...they can't make it official till the broncos lose...personally i see this coaching staff being very similiar to the staffs of tampa bay, phili, and washington...where the head coach is running the offense and the texans will hire jerry gray as the new d. coordinator unless he gets a HC job with another team...they'll let gray take complete control over the defense and kubiak will have complete control over the offense...not really a bad way to go seeing the success of some of those other teams...gray has shown the ability to run a really good defense...if kubiak is putting together his staff behind the senses (which isn't unusual) it won't really matter how far in the playoffs the broncos get...you can kinda read in between the lines that some of the defensive coaches will probably be kept...i can see london, hoke, and olivadotti being kept to coach the dt, cb, and lb's next season under jerry gray...as for the offensive coaches i think only kippy brown as a legit chance of staying...chick harris might be kept might not...if we keep marciano as special teams coach his son will probably be kept to coach TE's...but that's pretty big if...i think kubiak will bring in his own o-line coach and qb coach probably along with his own scouts

Actually....I hope it's later than sooner. I hope that the Broncos go to the Super Bowl cause guess what.........that'd mean we were getting a 3 time Super Bowl member of the coaching staff of that team. I'd feel great about that......wouldn't you?

And all this talk about Kubiak talking to his people and what not.....if I were Shanahan.....I'd want Kubiak to be concentrated on the Broncos post-season campaign and only that! Personally....as a Texans fan....I don't want a less than fully concentrated head coach.

I might be the only person who really believes this, but I think the Broncos, if they get past the Pats, will actually beat the Colts.

I agree with you - you might be the only person who really believes this. :)

The only thing that allows a coach to last in the same position for 10 years is WINNING.

So let's hope Kubiak is still our HC in 2015. :thumbup :texflag:

(I just read his resume, and I didn't realize he had a Superbowl ring as OC for the 49ers when Young was QB. Niiiiiiiiice - three rings! :howdy: )

If the Texans don't hire Cam Cameron, they're going to be the losers! Cam is one of THE MOST BRILLIANT Offensive minds in the game. He's proven it everywhere he's been. He's also humble, knows Charlie Casserly VERY well and is young enough that he can relate to the players, yet get them motivated. He's an excellent judge of talent and has turned out some of the best QB's in the league. He could make David Carr look like Tom Brady (another one that he turned out).

I know everyone's clamoring about Kubiak. Kubiak's been successful because of Shannahan. That's the only coach he's been Offensive Coordinator for and he's been there forever it seems. He's just a product of Shannahan's system. Cam on the other hand, has an offense that's a little bit of Bo Schembecler's, Norv Turner's (from Norv's Cowboy days), Marty Schottenheimer's, Don Coryell's (God he worshiped that guy when he was young), his Step-Father's as well as his OWN. You've never seen anyone study film as much and as well as this guy. He's done it since High School!!! Cam's been around enough to have picked up on different systems and integrate them all into one!

Bottom line is......if the Texan's DON'T hire Cam, they'll be the one's losing out.:trophy:

PS: Oh and btw....if they hire Cam, chances are they'll have Norv as Offensive Coordinator too. He and Cam are REAL tight!!

1. We will not be "losers" if we do not select Cam.

2. When did Cameron coach Brady??? He was gone by the time Brady got to Michigan.

3. He is credited with aiding in the development of Jim Harbaugh and Elvis Grbac at Michigan. Hardly Tom Brady material.

Kubiak will be the coach.

I think many of the same things can be said about Kubiak. He's had success in SF and Denver, has been tutored by a guy that's had success at every stop in his career, and Kubiak has three SB rings to wear (maybe 4 after this year). He's had indisputably positive results with QBs, helping Young and Elway elevate their game and working with Griese and Plummer to get the best out of them.

I don't have anything against Cameron, but I think Kubiak would be a great hire. I can't say I am real keen on Norv Turner, however.

PS - do I know you from another message board? ;)

;)

He had ONE year in SF coaching Steve Young who was already one of the best QB's in Football. Steve and Elway didn't need any help! Again though....look at Plummer....he's a product of the system that's run up there, as was Brian Griese. You put them ANYWHERE else and they're "Average to Adequate" QB's. Brian wasn't tearing it up in TB before he got hurt and we all know what Plummer did BEFORE his arrival in Denver. :twocents:

ugh!...you had me curious until reading this part. Sorry, no Norv Turner fans in here, move along now.

Kubiak is a great candidate for HC. I'm not keen on dogging one coach because you prefer another. Prop your guy all you want, but please refrain from dissing a proven coach with NFL Championship experience.

Who whoa whoa there mr Jetdoc - Your guy "Cameron" has only been an O-coordinator for 3 years in the league - His team the "Chargers" are hardly a title contender and that "Vaunted" San Diego Offense isnt in the playoffs either.

IMO the Smack your laying is pretty offbase - At least represent the facts.

The facts are Cameron is a good O-coordinator with limited experience. He coached QB's for the Redskins and has been with the Chargers a few years. Thats all - he's certainly done some good work there - but hardly has any accolades very little Pro-level success - yet hes supposedly so much better than Kubiak??

And as for your info on Kubiak - He's been an O-coordinator for 12 years in the league and he was the coordinator in SF and Denver and coached both Elway and Young - in the best years of their respective careers and when they both won Super bowl titles and MVP awards. - Not much to compare in my mind.

Cam Cameron is the coordinator who wasn't even utilizing LT as well as he could. He has taken the dual threat capability away from him in several games this season by not calling plays for him to be a receiver.

The only thing that worries me about Kubiak is that we don't know how much of this can be credited to him and how much can be credited to Shanahan...Let's not forget that Kubiak followed Shanahan from San Francisco to Denver...As far as I know, Kubiak also doesn't have any experience as being "the man"...That being said, I think he is the right man for the job, especially if he can bring Denver's OL coach over with him...

Tulex, I understand that certain RBs can produce lining up occasionally at WR as well, but you seem to overemphasize this part of the RB's game. Most RB's, regardless of how speedy, do not go deep or run routes particularly well, and are better if given the dump-off/short screen and allowed to make plays with their feet.

Just wondering, and I mean this as a respectful question and not a jibe, what is the basis for your thinking that guys like LT and Bush should consistently line up at WR?

Sorry I misspoke. What I meant to say is not get him involved in the passing game.

What makes backs like LT and Marshall Faulk so dangerous is that they have great hands in addition to being a great runner.

I'm not trying to dog Kubiak DB....not at all. I'm just saying that IMO,(and I know both) Cameron's the BETTER choice. The reason I brought Turner into it was that it seemed as if some in here would've liked to have had him as an OC. Maybe I read the crowd wrong, but that's what I perceived. Kubiak IS a "Great Candidate" but he was NOT the OC in SF, he was QB coach and Steve Young hardly needed any coaching and neither did John Elway when he had them. What's Gary done since Elway left? They've even missed the playoffs a couple of years since IIRC. IMO, Cam's the better choice is all that I'm saying.

well how about this as interesting...one of the first guys to interview for the job was al saunders...the guy who has been running that high power offense in kansas city...why isn't he considered to be a major player in the coaching game...kansas city wouldn't even look his way and as far as i know we were the only team to interview him as HC...also there were reports today that buffalo was already looking for a new D. Coordinator...adding fuel to my fire that jerry gray will be our next D. coordinator

Don't know if this has been posted...LINK

"The one thing we preach here in Denver is a team concept," Kubiak said Friday. "If we've got to run it to win, we're going to run it. If we've got to throw it, we're going to throw it. We get everybody involved. We're a very unselfish team."

One of the Broncos' trademarks on offense has been balance. They always rank near the top in run blocking. Their zone-blocking schemes are the NFL's best every season.

"We've got one Pro Bowl player (receiver Rod Smith) on our side of the ball this season," Kubiak said. "To be as successful as we've been and move the ball the way we've moved it just says a lot about our players.

"But you've got to be able to do it both ways. This game's not about credit. It's about competing and trying to win a championship. I'm very comfortable with that."

No way I'd hire this guy as my Coach and face of the franchise after watching his rambling video on the front page. All I wanted to do was gouge my eyes out with sharp sticks after listening to him babble on mundanely and in a fairly annoying manner.
