Kubiak may bring Denver's OL coach with him

Texans Pride

Edo783 reported in another thread that he had heard that if/when, when being the case most likely, that Kubiak is hired as our next HC, that he will bring in his good friend, and great OL coach Rick Dennison.

I searched around and found a couple of pieces that also confirm this. From what I read, it sounds like Dennison will be the next offensive coordinator if he is brought in.

My question is, what do we know about Dennison other than him implimenting a great OL? Would he be a good fit as an OC, or does he lack the experience needed?

Here is Dennison's BIO from the Broncos main site:
Rick Dennison enters his 11th year on the Broncos’ coaching staff and his fifth as offensive line coach. He took over that role in 2001 after spending the previous four seasons (1997-2000) coaching the club's special teams and two years (1995-96) as an offensive assistant.

Dennison oversees a unit that has annually been regarded as the best in the business. Anchoring the line is five-time Pro Bowl center Tom Nalen, who is joined by Matt Lepsis, Ben Hamilton and George Foster to form the nucleus of a group that looks to continue the legacy of the Broncos’ offensive line. In Dennison’s four seasons as offensive line coach, his group has been pivotal in Denver gaining an NFL-best 9,105 rushing yards over that period. . .

I think thats enough experience to be an OC, and even if he stumbles along the way he'll have Kubiak there to help him.

Wow. That just stood out like a sore thumb. That's simply an amazing stat.

That's an almost guarantee we'll take Bush if he's hired then.

our maybe they'll stick with our guy D. Davis who has gained a 1,000 yrds 2 out of his first 3 years in the nfl and doing it all behind our so so so so so BAD offensive line. just maybe...............

It has also been indicated that Kubes intends to be intimatly involved with the Offesive plan/scheme etc. These two working the offensive side of the ball SHOULD mean some really good things. It's also beeing talked about that the QB coach will also come. Less sure about that one though. The other guy I have heard talked about that SEEMS to be a fairly sure thing is Jerry Gray at the DC position. If they pull that team together it bodes well for us on both sides.

Granted, yes our offensive line is bad. But run blocking and pass blocking are two totally different things.

True....but if your run game is THAT dominant, then the defense can't pass rush you too much.

He sounds like exactly what our o-line needs. Hope we get him too.

oh yes i know this, texans84 but denvers team is good at protecting the qb and the rb, also davis breaks alot of tackles/or makes the first man miss. sorry but the broncos make every RB look good i mean look at portis now, he's nothing like he used to be !

Portis had 1500 yards rushing this year. How is he nothing like he used to be?

Coach C. had posted on this a while back. Kubiak has been ok'ed unofficially to bring Dennison, Watson, and several personell and scouts from Denver. Coach C. and Morknolle know more about this though.

On the contrary, If anything, they'll shy away from burning a high #1 on a RB that is gonna get monster yds f they can play DD or VMo and get just as many and use that pick on the obvious choice.

Maybe if those 4th round guys can tally up 1500+, then Bush can set some ridiculous record of infinity yards. Yes, they don't stop.

Just a theory.

That would be something that I would love to see. Can anyone provide a link stating that this is even a possibilty please? I just can't hardly see it happening. With Mularkey resigning wouldn't Gray be a great choice to coach the Bills? Sure would be better than Levy (at this point in time, not trying to take anything away from Marv). Gray will be a good head coach someday IMO.

Dennison is Kubiak's first choice, but he is waiting to see if he will get offered to job to replace Kubiak in Denver. If he is not offered the Broncos OC job it is likely he will be with the Texans next year.

One person I think this really bodes well for is Wells. He has the possiblity of being our Mike Anderson. Of course, this all depends on who we draft.

Dear Lord:

Please don't let Kubiak inherit Capers moronic teachings of stupidity. Please don't let him draft VY. Let him make the smart, educated moves.

Amen

Wells is UFA, I hope we can resign him.

When is the last time an OL coach made one block? It would be interesting to find out.

I'm starting to think this stuff is getting out of hand.

2002 5.5, 2003 5.5, 2004 3.8, 2005 4.3 you see the drop in ypc ?
Yeah, but you havent seen a Broncos back have the type of games or seasons Portis had when he was there. Portis is a special back.

And wouldnt this mean that the chance of getting Bush you drop because if Kubiack is brings Shanny's system, then he won't use a high draft pick on a back.

That he is, not many RBs that can come in and put up three different 1500 yard seasons in his first four years, especially doing it with two different teams. Denver does have a special offensive line and offensive system though, I think if Portis stayed healthy and stayed in Denver for his whole career he could have had a good shot at catching Emmitt Smith's career mark, so hopefully Kubiak can bring some of that success here.

Texans Pride, very good post. I would love to see Dennison as our OC based on the Bio. A great OL couch can make a huge difference in our team. I know we are talking OC but his OL knowledge will be his special touch.

Ghost, I think you are 100% correct about him bringing in a special touch for our team...I think it would be great if he came with Kubiak, I just don't know if bringing up an OL coach and making him the OC is a smart choice...It could be.

Pendry was our OL coach before he was our OC and we saw how much of a difference he made.

Yes,but he will be great on the running and Kubiak will have a role in the passing plays that are worked into the OC playbook.

The whole reason Kubiak is coming here is because he is an offensive mind. You know that he will be calling all of the shots offensively. He will have an OC, but I would bet that Kubiak will call all or most of the plays. That will leave his OC plenty of time to put his stamp on our OLine.
Also, for those questioning whether or not Dennison should be brought over as OC, I'm pretty sure that the only way he will get permission to leave is if he is promoted. Most teams don't let coaches under contract leave to assume the same position with another team. I think it's pretty standard that coaches can leave a team if the move is up and not lateral.
That poses the question of the possibility of Denver offering him their OC job. I'd think that a situation like that would be considered a new and seperate contract and therefor he would not be obligated to accept.
Pretty much, if we want him at all, it will most likely have to be OC.
Personally, I will take him as OC with Kubiak calling the plays and Dennison doing his thing with the line... he can also coordinate during practice...

I like the sound of this. I also wasn't thinking that Gray was a possibility as a DC until their HC quit on them. If he doesn't get a shot at the head coach position, I could see him leaving their mess to come to ours because of his Texas connection.

Last I HEARD, Grey had resigned from the Bills. Might just be a rumor. If not, he would be a very good pick for DC.
