Carr was a package deal to every candidate and hopefully we will hear something about that in the near future regarding those interviews.
If McNair really wanted an honest evluation from a coaching candidate, why did hire Dan Reeves as a consultant to evaluate Carr? McNair used the Reeves consultant report to get what he wanted and Kubiak was too pleased to do so because he wanted the job in Houston so badly.
There is a lot discussion about Carr and that he doesn't have enough talent around him. But, since the Texans have started many teams that were bottom of the barrell are now doing very well and making playoff runs. It doesn't really take that long to make a competitive in the NFL.
All of these comparisons to past teams really aren't relevant. Since the mid to late 90's, the league has added 4 teams and has a hard salary cap with free agency. If you think building the 90's Cowboys is possible, you are probably kidding yourself. Injuries and free agency are going to eat you alive! Look around the league on the successful teams, and you see rookies playing on all the good teams on the lines, running back, and so on...
The two most important positions right now in the NFL are the head coach and quarterback, and winning with less not more is how you are going to be successful.
At this day and age, the NFL is about the survival of the fitest, not stacking your team up with outrageous talent. If your high contract players aren't performing, your team isn't going to perform. It really is that simple.
