Kubiak in as Head Coach

Texandiver

Waterboy
I think I just heard Channel 11 report that the Texans Bob McNair is having a news conference in a hour? Can anyone confirm what I heard? I guess it could only have to do with Kubiak.

We were just taking bets over here over whether the Texans would wait until tomorrow.

I wish we'd have finalized terms - I would've won. :D

Would he really make the announcment this early? Seems like a slap in the face to do it only a couple hours after the game. I figured they would at least wait till Tuesday.

Maybe it is an announcment regarding Bates and or Pariani?

I would guess that KHOU.com would do it like they did with the VY press conference, but I don't see anything on the site yet.

Damn. I would have lost. Seems like Bob is just antsy.

I'm monitoring SportsRadio610. They are at halftime on the Rockets now but I expect they would cut away or mention something in a sports flash update if it's something big. ESPN 790 is airing the Seahawks game. Fox TV is airing the game as well so Berman can't scoop anyone.

This was noted on the 610 website as of 5:30
Steelers over the Broncos, 34-17 in the AFC Championship game Sunday afternoon which means Pittsburgh's heading to the Super Bowl while Broncos offensive coordinator, Gary Kubiaks' coming back home to Houston, where he'll take over as head coach of the Texans. Texans owner Bib McNair will address the media at 6:30 this evening.

Seems like the NFL would prefer if the Texans waited until there was not a playoff game going on.

No mention of anything on 610. I'm sure there's a licensing thing that requires them to broadcast the entire Rockets game even if they do suck.

790 is pure national feed. There won't be anything on there...

ESPN 790 just said they are carrying the news conference live.... not sure if you can get it on the stream but the out of towners might try espn790.com

Looks like everyone is picking it up....

Dave Dalotti comments:

Public declaration of Kubiak as head coach forthcoming in a few minutes.

Kubiak has yet to sign a contract but will be here by mid-week to meet the local media.

That's a classy deal. Why didn't he call a press conference for halftime? He's a fool. Should wait until Monday like anybody else with an ounce of class would do.

EDIT: OK, somehow the bad Nighthawk took over and wrote that he's a fool/ounce of class stuff. I totally reject myself. McNair has several ounces of class, but he still shouldn't have called a press conference today, and not in the middle of the NFC playoff game.

Maybe it will allow them to act on Bates tonight before the Rams get him.

What's funny is the radio feed on 790 is at least 2 or 3 seconds ahead of TV..... heard about that sack before I saw it...

If it weren't already the worst kept secret around, I could see your point. As it is, I don't.

That may be the dumbest post I've ever seen on here.

OK. You can get remarried while the wife is still in the church. Me, I'm waiting a day.

As already mentioned, there are other things to consider like getting the DC in the fold. THIS IS A BUSINESS. Your analogy is bad. I don't think the wife that is still in the church(Broncos) are upset about this at all. They are happy about the husband (Kubiak) remarrying. Get it?

I'm sorry, maybe I am missreading your thread. Are you calling McNair Classless? Really? I've seen alot of badgering and comments on this board that has made me go hmm, and have had to practice great restraint in not caling some posters a fool or being foolish. But to call McNair, of all people classless...........

if that is accurate, mcnair has already made the announcement (says McNair says) which means press conference is either over or in progress. good job by the media to cover it

Yep. Media proves what they are worth in Houston, Texas...

makes you wonder where this franchise would be if Kubiak would have been hired the 1st time he was interviewed:stirpot:

That press release has been prepared for a while. The Texans are just now allowed to share it with the media members who have made it to the auditorium. They have probably been passing out the copy for the past few minutes and what you are seeing on ESPN and the websites reflects what's stated in the copy. The report was that the news conference will be carried live so I'm guessing it hasn't happened yet. This post is at 6:58 local.

A Broncos source told ESPN's Chris Mortensen last week that the Texans told USC that Reggie Bush would be selected with the No. 1 pick, despite a rise in public sentiment after the Rose Bowl that Houston select Texas quarterback Vince Young.

That assurance was given because it was in line with Kubiak's philosophy.

A Broncos source told Mortensen that Kubiak believes current Houston quarterback David Carr can flourish with a new offense headlined by Bush and wide receiver Andre Johnson.

wonder what source that is

Thanks aj!

It happened.....

So much for live coverage.

Very brief. All he said was "I look forward to getting Gary down here" so we can get on with things......yaddda yadda

I can understand why there was no live coverage. The statements were very brief and I doubt there were many media members there...

I just traded emails with one of my 'sources' and it appears that Kubiak's introduction to the Houston media hasn't been scheduled. I'm sure more details will come out tomorrow. I'm guessing Wednesday for the local press conf. based on what I've heard...
