Kirk Cousins

GlenRice

Waterboy
Seen him play, the guy has real talent. Trade for him in the offseason. Let him back up shaub next season while he learns the offense and start him in 2014.

So a guy has one good game, and that's who we're supposed to put the future of this franchise in? After just that? Lol! Man, you guys have no history of watching the NFL do you?? Qb's come out of nowhere to have great games all of the time.

This could have definitely gone into the "Future QB Solution" thread. But what do I know, I'm just a "board Nazi"

Also, it's a dumb thought because they drafted Cousins specifically because of Griffin's propensity to run and potential injury risk. He's not going anywhere.

Offer them a 2nd round pick... F it, give them a 1st rounder. I'm telling you, cousins is the real deal and both of their QB's are rookies and one has to go evantually. Rick please jump on this one of lifetime opportunity.

Well I'll call Rick Smith up and tell him that Glen Rice told him to trust him.

I'll let you know what happens.

Isn't that what the Texans based the trade for Schaub on? Hand full of games and no real starting experience?

hmmmm....

As a native of Flint (as I'm assuming you are, with that name) and an alumni of Michigan State, I would love to see Cousins here, but, I don't see how he fits.

Of course you don't. You don't play Madden for a living so you don't think you can just throw players around in trades and expect it to happen in real life too.

The Cousins hype only comes from people that clearly don't have any history in their heads of the NFL and how QB's come and go and have big games. ANy QB can have a huge game. Matt Flynn had one last season and everyone jumped on his band wagon because he tore up the Lions defense. The hype behind him was about as dumb as the hype on Cousins for one game. Where is Flynn now? Oh, that's right he is a back up once again who lost the job to some nobody in the pre season even though that nobody is doing real well. Anyone remember Kevin Kolb?? Yeah he looked good for a few games as well, and how did he end up doing when he had to play week to week?? He stunk it up on two teams now.

I could go on and on and mention a ton of examples of QB's who have done this. If you're all high and mighty on Cousins after one game you either completely ignore history or just started watching the NFL, because one game doesn't indicate anything.

again, isn't ^^^^THIS^^^^ the very definition of why the Houston Texans traded for Matt Schaub? So does that mean the Texans not know what they are doing as well because everything you just said is basically what the Texans used to trade for Schaub...

You don't have a clue what you're talking about. Complete fiction you're talking.

Schaub had played in several games over a two year span every time Vick got hurt and showed that he could play in this league on a number of occassions. Cousins has had one game. Let him show this over multiple starts against strong defenses where teams have had time to watch film on him and he still shows resilience then we can talk. I'm not saying that Cousins can't play in this league. Maybe he can, but to suggest it off of one good game is completely moronic and goes against tons of examples of players around this league that have had one good game.

Agree, and I say that as someone who watched Cousins' final speech at the Big Ten dinner 300 times (amazing speech, gave me chills).

As a Spartan, I'm fine with Keyshawn Martin being here, because we need him. Cousins? Meh.

We put the future of this franchise in Matt Schaub's hands and I don't recall him having even one good game. Just potential that Kubiak and many others believed in. Things got better. They didn't become a playoff team until the very end but they got better. Now they seem to be stagnating. When that happens in SF the team makes a move. Why wouldn't the Texans want to look for better options?

You have an irrational resistance to the idea that the Texans might be able to upgrade their QB play. It's like you don't even see the point in trying. What do you have against trying to improve the position? You mock everyone who suggests an alternative. Anyone who doesn't see things your way must have just started watching the NFL or something right?

Well I can't help the fact that you were unaware of Schaub's good games, but he had several. He performed well pretty much every time he got to start when Vick was hurt. Schaub was pretty much the most sought after QB in that off season when we got him BECAUSE of what he did in his limited opportunities, but he had several which led people to believe that he wasn't some one game wonder like tons of other QB's.

The Texans weren't some bad team because of Schaub early on. Hell, he was hardly on the field due to injuries. When he became a full time starter we've had one of the better offenses in the league even with a poor running game in some of those years.

I have nothing against trying to improve the position, but find someone who is surely better before you do that. You don't just attempt to improve a position without a real plan on who is going to be able to do that. I asked you if you were willing to tank a season or two in order to improve the QB position? You refuse to answer. I ask you that because that's what it will take to find a guy who looks very strongly like he might be a ten yr elite type of QB. I have no interests in drafting one 2nd yr starter after another until we find a decent guy where we end up like the Dolphins or the Bills not having a chance every year because their QB's are average at best. Schaub's better then average no matter how much you guys want to bash him and talk about his immobility. I'll take what Schaub brings over running through a ton of average guys year after year. I like being in a position to win with a competent QB, and I'll gladly take that over a QB hunt right now.

IF you'd like to get a better HC, then I'm willing to make moves. As far as I'm concerned the main thing that will hold this team back when it comes to the playoffs is and always will be Kubiak.

I agree that you can't knee-jerk and reach for Cousins off one game. But you're stretching it a bit with Schaub. He didn't play several games and only had one good performance against the Pats where he threw for nearly 300 yards, 3tds with no int's. Yet he still only had like a 52 completion percentage in that game.

He only started two games for the Falcons and got a little wash-duty. He finished:

84/161 with a 52.2 completion percentage for 1033 yards 6tds and 6int's.

So naw...he really wasn't that good. Two of the games he was obviously game managing as it is.

As for the thread in general, I do see the issues with Schaub. His numbers have dropped considerably in prime time games/situations. At the same time it's not easy to find another. Granted rookie quarterbacks these days have been better than in past years but it is still a gamble. The next draft is not very deep at the position as is.

Best bet is you find someone to groom while Schaub continues for another year or two because they just don't fall off trees. Just no swift answer out there right now so it's what you see is what you get. Best plan is to get significant pieces around Schaub and ride it out. A stronger offensive line (right side) and a real target at #2.

Schaub, if memory serves, and a whopping 4 starts in a 2 year career. Nothing in those 4 games showed the Matt was a clear cut starter in the NFL. It was calculated risk the Texans took....

It has yet to pan out

Schaub played well when he came in for Vick. He was the most sought after QB in that off season. Yeah, there were question marks, but Cousins has played one freaking game and no one even mentioned a word about this guy before that.

I've got no problem with trying to groom a guy, but if so then go out and get a guy who can be top guy potentially. Then go trade your #1 draft picks for a stud. Go all out if you're going to do it. Don't "settle" for a replacement is what I'm trying to say. That's the mistake a ton of teams make and that's why you see teams like the Dolphins still trying to replace Marino and the Bills still trying to replace Kelly.

Sorry, but you are simply clueless if you're going to say that Schaub hasn't panned out. Criticizing some of his limitations and his immobility is one thing, but to suggest that he hasn't even panned out is flat our retarded. THis team didn't even have a good defense until last season and even this year it's been inconsistent where Schaub has had to throw for over 500 yards in one game just to win. A game that was on Thanksgiving in front of the entire world I might add for all you "can't perform in Prime Time" games people. Amazing how you guys forget all about that when that was like 4 weeks ago. Schaub has put this offense on his shoulders this season. He just can't be expected to do it every week. I've said that for years about Schaub, but you people keep expecting a non elite QB to be elite when he isn't. But hell you're a guy who is saying he hasn't even panned out, so anything further with you is pointless, because you don't even have the ability to value the positives from a guy who has led this team to being in the top 3 scoring offenses in the league only trailing behind Brady and Manning. But he hasn't panned out???? :mariopalm:

Wow, just wow. Just when I thought I have seen everything. Somebody wants to give a first round pick for a rookie QB that wasn't even drafted very high after he had one good game. Screw it!!! let's just give two firsts for phillies rookie Qb while were at it!!

Cousins will never come here. There are teams out there that are way more desperate than us.

Scott Mitchell comes to my mind.
