1. Controlling the line of scrimage on both sides of the ball
-- They are great at running the ball. We MUST push the LOS back and give our linebackers space to make plays. On offense, our line needs to be patient and maintain their assignments. WE HAVE TO ESTABLISH THE RUN TO WIN

2. Get Andre the ball.
-- He is the best player on the team and if isnt given the oportunity to make plays this week, we will not win. He will be double and tripled teamed so Gaffney, Bradford and Mathis need to find a way to take a little preasure off of AJ.

3. A leader on both sides of the ball must emerge.
-- We need a leader. Someone needs to take this bull by the horns! On offense we lack confidence. A leader needs to step up this week and show them how to be successfull. On defense we need to get mean. INTESITY IS NEEDED!

4. Cant let Big Ben get comfortable.
-- A pass rush has to happen. If we somehow shut down their running game and force them into passing situations then Big Ben cant feel like he has all day to throw to Ward or Randal El.

This is a winnable game... our players just have to believe that they can DO IT!

I agree that is what we need to do to win.

Steelers are the masters of controling both the O-line and D-line. So we will need to play great and play with emotion and some desperation.

Also if you watched the Steelers game on sunday their LBs made big plays, cause fumbles, INTs, and generally cause havok all over the Titans Offense. Ours need to do the same thing.
 
I was gonna say right before the game go into the locker room and switch out the jerseys so the Steelers will be unexpectingly scoring for the Texans.
 
One key point you didn't mention:

Hide the Steelers uniforms say they can't play



LOL, I'm just kidding....I am looking foward to rebounding back and shocking the NFL this week.

JMO, but what needs to happen (one of them) is for Capers/Palmer/Carr to act as if AJ is a bonus guy out there--you only get to use him once you have earned the bonus by completely 5 passes to other players. Come out with a game plan of hitting passes against single coverage to Gaffney, Bradford, Armstrong and Murphy. In other words, make them the 1st read for Carr rather than AJ and attack the single coverage directly instead of read AJ, think about reading #2, oh crud, turf or sideline.

Those guys can take pressure off 80, if given the opportunity. No balls no yards!!!!!
 
When I watched MNF last night. I noticed how pumped those players were (John Kerney) we need that. I know it is just emotion after one play but someone has got to give us something to look forward too so when he does it the crowd and team can get into it. I know everyone hates endzone dancing but this team needs anything they can get.

I agree! Also I loved how pumped up both teams were before the game. The pregame fight was dumb, but how about both teams yelling and jumping and just getting ready for the game right after the fight? We are lacking that kind of intensity and need to find it somewhere... somehow...
 
I think the most important thing for the Texans to do in the game is:

A. Win the coin toss.
B. Elect to receive.
C. Run play action Carr roll out to a TE or other receiver besides AJ.

D1. If play 1 is complete, then sweep Davis.
D2. If play 1 is incomplete, three step drop, hit AJ on a short slant.

If we run Davis up the middle on play 1 of the offensive series, I am going to impale myself on Toro's horns. So predictable.

We have to do everything we can on the first series of the game to wipe the cobwebs from Buffalo.

If we lose the coin toss, I get the sense that the defense will give up at least 3 and the offernse will feel too much pressure to get in a rhythm.

To much team speed for sweeps. The weakness of a 3-4 is smashmouth. Get big OL on line backers. You have to make them hurt for making tackles. The good backs delever the blow, and thats important in establishing the run game.

You may have hit upon something here .... By Carr willingly throwing to the other recievers it SHOULD open up the running game and later leave single coverage on AJ. Sounds good in theory ..... but Can / Will they execute ?
 
Gaff should draw pressure from AJ. mathis should too. mathis has a slight advantage because there is no film of him in a real game.
 
How can anyone be optiistic after Sunday...I am afraid we are turning into the browns...nothing but "next year"...constant rebuilding...new coaches....new GM....Damn, the Buff game has ruined my entire week!!!!

It is clear that we lost the team leader when Shaper left. Babin for D-Rob and even Buc need to step up and take this def on their backs. They are young yes but if not them who? If not now when? We need some aggresive players AND COACHES. That is the whole deal with Houston. All our pro teams are too passive. WE NEED TO BE AGRESIVE! This is football not Fotball.
 
I like the keys in concept, however, unless the game plan includes blitzs that are not obvious, and an offense that shows up then the defense will lay down.
I thought it was a bend don't break defense, unfortunately the offense has taken the same approach - bend don't score!

Hopefully we can do better offensively than we did that last time out against the Steelers. You think our offensive line is bad now? Go review who we started in 2002.
 
I say the key to beating them is let our Offense gain 48 yards..bring in Aaron Glenn and have him run two INT's for TD.. and hope that Rothlesberger(sp) eats some bad Tacos and have the runny stuff and for Tommy Maddux to take his place that's if he is still with them.
 
The good news is, IF the Steelers had forgotten about the last game.....they were reminded today. From Cowher's press conference:

Q: The last time you played these guys, was that as bizarre a football game as you have ever been involved with?
BC: Oh. Bizarre is a good word. I remember the game, but this morning, I was looking at the stats of the game. We lost by what? What was the final score, 20-7. They had 47 yards and we had over 400 yards of offense. It was a really bizarre game. That was a weird year.

Q: That game cost you home-field advantage in the playoffs.
BC: Were talking about this year and now we’re going back to 2003? I don’t know. Did it?

Q: Yeah it did.
BC: Thanks for the memories.

So, at least now, our coach is reminded of what the Texans did. And when asked if they team was looking ahead to New England....

BC: We don’t look ahead. Houston is the only team we’re worried about.

I hope we come out firing on all cylinders. That loss to you guys stings and we still have a lot of players left that were here when it happened.
 
It's a tough hill to climb this week, but it can be done. One novel approach on offense would be to try all the stuff Houston worked on during the offseason, since it apparently wasn't used much last week.

I think the defense will hang in again--certainly better than the Tacks did last week. But if the offense comes out stinking again, that won't matter much if the D's asked to stay on the field forever.
 
Start quick out of the gate. Put some points on the board early and make LOTS OF NOISE!! Remember, Ben is only a second year QB.
 
I think the biggest key will be to establish a running game. This will take some heat off the passing game.
Too, better blocking, to give Carr time to seek that 2nd receiver. You know they will be on Andre like crazy, so Carr must find his secondary receiver!!
Someone has got to step up and take some heat off of Andre.

I think they have to find the secondary receiver and build in some plays specifically to get them involved early. Would be a big boost to see a Gaffney or Mathis catch on the first play, even if it is for 4-5 yards. Start out positive and spread the ball around. Start AJ in the slot and run a post slant to the outside, roll gaffney from the outside across the middle, underneath AJ... a quick in strike ought to be enough to start to build confidence.

If we don't win the coin flip, the game is probably over... we can't play catch up.
 
We CANNOT turn the ball over, especially the 5 times in the Bills game.
I hate to say it, because I like to remain optimistic, but I have lowered expectations for this game. But if they can find a way to win I'd say we should all be encouraged going into the bye week and considering this past Sunday's debacle. That's not to say I think the offense can be miraculously cured, but it can be improved enough to win with the right changes.

Oh and it'd be extremely helpful if the defense could get a takeaway or two as well.
 
I still think our best chance lies with the Magic Football Pixie Dust.

Now that I think about it though that doesn't sound too good. I was making fun of the IBM commercial but instead it sounds like it should be followed with

"It worked for Michael Irvin didn't it?"

To me winning is second seat to actually being competative. They are a good team and if can just pop them in the mouth and fight hard ill be ok with an L. Id still like to win but you take what you can get.

Quite likely. Actually can anyone remember one single game where the Texans controlled the line on both sides of the ball for the overwhelming majority of the game?

Nothing comes to mind. Even the Oakland win last season and the Jacksonville shutout were about takeaways and often times good luck (penalties helping to kill our opponents drives, dropped passes). We just don't push anybody around on offense or defense really.

No way we're pushing the Steelers around this week.
 
The Texans could always have a bench player pick a fight with Roethlisberger/Parker/Porter/Ward/Foote and get them kicked out of the game before the coin toss....

I think to win this game the Texans will need to spread the field. If Capers says that only 1 of last week's sackes was faulted to the o-line, then the other sacks were given up by TEs and RBs. The solution then would be to get those guys off of the field. The Texans should come out in 3 and 4 WR sets, and try to get some of those PIT blitzers off the field. If the Texans come out with 2 TEs and 2 backs, then look for results similar to the Buffalo game. Also it looks like PIT will be without one of thier top CBs, even more reason to focus on the passing game. Hey, it worked pretty well against Minnesota last year.

stop pitt from geting in stadium,if that fails,red dog on three plays and when pitt thinks they got our dfense figured out they will send all rec long and then we attack pitt qb with a fury only hell could un leash,the texan at the bottom of pile will have to gouge pitt qb eyes out....guys only way texans have a chance to keep it close..maybe have to wait for week three not to get beat down
