kastofsna Post-Free Agency Mock

Hall of Fame
[1] Houston - Reggie Bush, HB, USC - (Easy pick. Will put fans in the seats and create mayhem for opposing defenses.)
[2] New Orleans - D'Brickashaw Ferguson, T, Virginia - (Signing QB Drew Brees and trading T Wayne Gandy almost solidifies this pick.)
[3] Tennessee - Matt Leinart, QB, USC - (Best QB in the draft, McNair's status with the team is up in the air.)
[4] N.Y. Jets - Jay Cutler, QB, Vanderbilt - (Broadway Jay.)
[5] Green Bay - Mario Williams, DE, NC State - (BPA. Will improve the defense immediately.)
[6] San Francisco - AJ Hawk, LB, Ohio State - (BPA. A sexy pick here is TE Vernon Davis, but he's a bit overrated, and the loss of Julian Peterson and Andre Carter to the defense hurts.)
[7] Oakland - Vernon Davis, TE, Maryland - (Al Davis just loves the mismatch potential on defenses.)
[8] Buffalo - Winston Justice, T, USC - (Justice has had an excellent offseason and solidified himself as a top 10 pick.)
[9] Detroit - Michael Huff, S, Texas - (Detroit addresses the defense by adding the best playmaker in the draft.)
[10] Arizona - Vince Young, QB, Texas - (Dennis Green gets another shot at building a QB from the ground up.)
[11] St. Louis - Brodrick Bunkley, DT, FSU - (A monster combine has allowed Bunley's stock to skyrocket.)
[12] Cleveland - Kamerion Wimbley, DE, FSU - (They've added Willie McGinest, but they need more talent in the front 7. The Browns are apparently in love with Wimbley.)
[13] Baltimore - Haloti Ngata, DT, Oregon - (His stock hasn't dropped, but Bunkley's has, so Ngata drops to Baltimore, who needs to replace Maate Kemoeatu.)
[14] Philadelphia - Ernie Sims, LB, FSU - (Considered undersized, he has all the smarts and phsyical ability to make up for it.)
[15] Denver f/Atl - Chad Jackson, WR, Florida - (Another WR to stretch the field for Jake Plummer is necessary.)
[16] Miami - Manny Lawson, DE, NC State - (After addressing the secondary and o-line in free agency, it's time to turn to OLB, where it looks like Lavar Arrington won't be signing. Lawson draws comparisons to Demarcus Ware and would be an excellent bookend opposite of Jason Taylor in the linebacking corps.)
[17] Minnesota - Chad Greenway, LB, Iowa - (Minnesota goes defense here by getting a guy who hurt his stock at the combines.)
[18] Dallas - Jason Allen, DB, Tennessee - (A versatile player like Allen will see a lot of time at safety and nickelback before eventually settling into the S role next to Roy Williams.)
[19] San Diego - Santonio Holmes, WR, Ohio State - (A speedy guy like Holmes will help out in Philip Rivers' development, especially on screens and short hitches.)
[20] Kansas City - Tye Hill, CB, Clemson - (Perhaps the best "pure" CB in the draft.)
[21] New England - Deangelo Williams, HB, Memphis - (Corey Dillon is on his last legs and the Patriots get a huge steal in Deangelo Williams, a top 10 talent. Easy ROTY candidate.)
[22] Denver f/Was - Gabe Watson, DT, Michigan - (Despite getting all those former Browns, the Broncos' front 4 still needs work. Watson has elite talent but poor work ethic.)
[23] Tampa Bay - Marcus McNeill, OT, Auburn - (Will once again block for Cadillac Williams.)
[24] Cincinnati - Donte Whitner, S, Ohio State - (A speedy aggressive safety that could fill a huge void in Cincinatti's secondary.)
[25] N.Y. Giants - Bobby Carpenter, LB, Ohio State - (NY needs help on the front 7, notably with run-stopping. Carpenter is a big rangy guy.)
[26] Chicago - Leonard Pope, TE, Georgia - (Chicago hasn't had a good TE since Mike Ditka.)
[27] Carolina - Laurence Maroney, RB, Minnesota - (With DeShaun Foster constantly injured, Carolina grabs an insurance back in Maroney, who may be better than Foster as it is.)
[28] Jacksonville - Antonio Cromartie, DB, FSU - (Aside from Rashean Mathis, Jacksonville's secondary is pretty laughable. Overpaying for nickelback Brian Williams didn't help.)
[29] N.Y. Jets f/Den/Atl - Mathias Kiwanuka, DE, Boston College - (John Abraham's replacement.)
[30] Indianapolis - Lendale White, RB, USC - (As long as White just takes the ball and follows the blockers he'll be fine. He sometimes forgets he's a power back, and will resort to Ron Dayne syndrome.)
[31] Seattle - Charles Spencer, G, Pittsburgh - (Will be groomed to be Steve Hutchinson's replacement.)
[32] Pittsburgh - Sinorice Moss, WR, Miami (FL) - (Antwan Randle El isn't a great receiver, but he was a great component of the overall offense for Pittsburgh. Moss is a similar player and should have an immediate impact.)

Perfect. Your top 10 matches mine perfectly. Only thing I would change is that I don't believe that Lendale White drops all the way to the Colts. I have Joseph Addai (LSU, RB) going to the Colts. I have Lendale going to Denver. They did release one of their backs (Mike Anderson, I think?), so there is room.:twocents:

i think white could drop out of the first based on his horrible offseason. and he's overrated to begin with. besides, denver already has lendale white, and his name is ron dayne.

True, I forgot about Dayne. I know there are rumors swirling around that said White didn't run on purpose because there is a particular team in the latter half of round 1 that want him, but there are teams in the teens that say they will draft him if he is still available. Anything is possible & I think this offseason has certainly kept him out of the top 10, but I will be really surprised if he makes it all the way to Indy.:twocents:

First I truly think that the Saints and Jets will make a trade. The Saints want Mario 1st and Ferguson 2nd and with a move down to #4 they will likely take one of them. Obviously they will not be asking as much now, but the Jets will not likely be very willing to give up a number of picks. If the Jets stay put I doubt they take Jay Cutler. Mangini is a a Belichik type of guy which means he will not really go for the strongarmed, chancy, inaccurate Cutler. Look for the Jets to take Mario or Fergy if they stay put mainly leaning toward Mario since he will come in and be similar to Seymore or lose weight and play outside like McGinest.

Not having White, Jonathan Joseph, and Possibly Nick Mangold and Winston in your first round seems just like you are trying to be unorthodox with your picks. Especially since you have Spencer and Wimbley in the first round. I mean hell you even have Wimbley up near the top 10. He is a second rounder or low first rounder at best. He is situational pass rusher/LB he is not even a true tweener. Marcus McNeil going before Winston is hilarious, but to each there own on that one. Jonathan Joseph eventhough I wish he fell out of the first is overtaking Hill in most cases. He is a pure CB that has more size and is slight bit slower (.01 to be exact).

Kat i must say that I actually like your draft you pretty much have the same positions going to the teams that I have, but I think you are reaching or trying to be different with your picks. Good job though.

I disagree. With them trading the player that filled Ferguson's position, I think it is a foregone conclusion that it will be Ferguson for the Saints

lol, wimbley is GUARANTEED to go #12 to the browns. quote me on it. they love him. eric winston has been a 2nd rounder for months. pretty much everyone has mcneill ranked ahead of him actually. jonathan joseph has absolutely nothing on tye hill and shouldn't be a first rounder. i had mangold going in the first i made not too long ago, after the jets and saints traded and the saints picked up the 29th pick. the saints just traded T wayne gandy, they have no reason to want williams over ferguson, especially considering that will smith and charles grant are on the roster. i appreciate your "compliment" but you're clearly behind the times on a lot of things. i'm not just trying to be different because i didn't have a few borderline-1st rounders in my mock.

Actually he was right on with many of his comments. The Saints are moving Jamaal Brown to LT (remember, the OT they drafted in the 1st round last year and traded up with us to get? He's not meant to be a career RT at that price). They have said publically that they really like Mario and Hawk (and that they're thinking about switching Charles Grant inside to DT if they get Mario), so I think they try to to trade down and either take Mario there if he somehow falls, or else take Hawk. Mario is an absolute freak and is challenging Reggie Bush as the #1 overall rated prospect on some draft boards.

Eric Winston had the best Combine workout of any OLineman and is in the top 3 among all OLinemen in every category of athleticism, plus he has nice technique, is smart, and he has a decent mean streak on him. He will be a mid-1st rounder, and many of the teams in there have said they really like him (Cowboys and Buccaneers to name a few).

Johnathan Joseph is the 2nd best CB in this draft behind Tye Hill, arguably as good as him (I'm counting Michael Huff and Jimmy Williams as FS, plus Joseph could challenge Jimmy as a pure CB). Many teams towards the end of the 1st round need some CB help, and I think both Joseph and Cromartie will easily be off the boards before the 2nd round rolls around, I've seen Joseph as high as #20 to the Chiefs.

I think Mangold will still go in the 1st. I don't think the Jets will move up to #2 if it means giving up the #29 pick, as right now they can stay put and possibly get Mario at #4 or else get D'Brick or Hawk, and then probably get Mangold at #29 to replace the departed Kevin Mawae. Even if the Jets do trade the #29 pick away, the Saints just lost their Pro-Bowl C LeCharles Bentley, so they could definitely look for Mangold there.

Overall, I agree that the majority of your mock is quite good and you seem to have addressed most team needs, although I don't agree with some of your specific picks there, but good work overall.

I like some of your picks, but I don't see the seahawks going after Spencer or any other linemen in the first round. Sean Locklear, their RT from last year is going to move to LG and compete with "Porkchop" Womack since they signned Tom Ashworth to play RT.

I also don't think that the Bengals will go safty, since they have Williams and signned Dexter Jackson.

Other than those, great job. After looking at your mock, I'm starting to rethink some of my picks.

Also, on the Jammal Brown subject, they are going to try him out at LT during their mini camp. But, he will most likely stay at RT, since he has slow feet and has problems with speed rushers.
