Kaiser Toro and the rest of the Mario Clan

Coach C.

Veteran
Celebrate people we now have one part to start to give us a real defense. We now can compete with almost anyone in the league. It is on baby, and I do mean on. Cant wait to the draft party holla back.

Here, here. As a long time Mario guy ... I'm excited about the upcoming season and VERY happy with the pick. Now, let's make the right picks and get to the football already!

im going to enjoy seeing him lineup in practice to give wand and pitts or whoever is going to man the LT a challenge. this is going to make us stronger on defense and in protecting the QB. there are bright days ahead of us!

i love when teammates make each other better!! some real team ball

I like this guy, but Dunta Robinson will be my favorate defensive player for a long long time. Something about that small mass flattening that fullback brings a tear to my eye.

Anyway, back on topic heres to many many more sacks and much more QB pressure:piano:

I for one am estatic about this. I was in the trade down area since we got the first pick. I wanted M Williams or D'Brick. I am glad we stayed put and just took one of them instead of trading back and not getting either.

To all the bitter people around here, just wait you will love watching Mario play.

I think people read to much of the so called experts . Most of these guys are just parrots and repeat what they've heard .

Mario Williams workout was just as impressive as Bush's if not better . He has been rated on some boards the same as Bush but with more upswing . The Texans had a choice of chocalate or vanilla and took vanilla ... so what .

Reggie has cost himself millions in the last week . After the house issue he should have signed quickly but his agent had a week earlier left the Texans with a bad taste .

I love my TEXANS. I (probably) always will.

But why does this JUST not make sense?

I mean...4 months...we focus on Bush...and the a last-ditch-switch!

It just doesn't add up.

PERHAPS we have a deal with another team to draft-&-trade and with the market $ set, we feel getting a deal done with Bush is now easier (plus, extra picks). Again, this is wishful thinking on my part...but who knows.

Do I think SUPER MARIO can be the next PEPPERS? Possibly. Maybe even likely.

But if you're talking a guy who can be a top 5 RB, a top WR and KR or simply a DE. I dunno. I do NOT take the DE. Hell...trade some picks and get the OTHER DE from NC State. But...this just smells like our other BRILLIANT moves.

Let's see....

Boselli
Hollings
P-Buch
Charles Hill...who? (exactly)
Wade

Going away from BUSH just doesn't make sense.

I hope we have something cooking! :stirpot:

I'm pleased - last month I wanted Mario no question but I had started to waver because Bush is darn good. However, I'm still very happy. We are going to be a pretty good team.

I hope all of you people who are so excited about this pick remember this day. When Vince and Reggie are tearing up the league and "Mario Babin" is sitting the bench hoping to get a chance to play after some undrafted free agent has beaten him out.

There were not many of us, but we positioned hard and often. We will have to get a beer together come the regular season. Man was my phone blowing up last night.

There is only way to describe how I feel, take it away smilie and banana - :piano:

i find it amazing how everyone who hates this pick is ready to throw, er, anoint reggie and vince into the HOF

I will not disagree with ya'll, but dude better not be "taking plays off", as I've heard he tends to do. It's one thing to get yer rear-end whipped every now and then, it's a whole other issue to be lazy.:twocents:

Watch out Peyton! You are on Notice :-)

And now he has 54 million reasons to be lazy. If he's already lazy, why work now? He's laughing all the way to the bank.

its 54 million reasons to work hard. he has dignity, dont knock on him

I understand how many want to poo poo on Mario, but wait until you hear the young man's interview and then provide your take. I think his words and demeanor will take some of the emotion out of the banter.

Welcome to Houston Mario! I'm disappointed that we didn't get Reggie, but I'm happy that we got Mario. There's alot of reasons to take Mario, and there was alot of reasons to take Bush. Instead of going with the popular choice they did what they thought was best for the team. For that I give them props.

If the guy had dignity he wouldn't be taking plays and GAMES off.
its something thats been repeated around here and i cant say for sure what they are exactly talking about. but he is at a whole new level with expectations from the coaching staff and the teammates and the guy who signs his check. i can pretty much guarantee if he did take some plays off, then the coaching staff and scouts knew about it and what caused it. and i doubt they would invest a #1 overall in him to come here with a piss poor attitude

While it's hard for someone to prove on here that he took plays off (you just have to trust the info that's given to you), I think I can prove that he took games off. The stats speak for themselves:

He played against 4 teams that were ranked in the top 25 per the AP Poll - V Tech, BC, Clemson and FL State (3 of the four were ranked #18, 21 & 23 - so its not like these were even really highly ranked)

V Tech - 0 sacks, 1 solo tackle, 3 asst. tackles
BC - 0 sacks, 4 solo tackles, 0 asst. tackles
Clemson - 0 sacks, 1 solo tackle, 3 asst. tackles
Florida State - 0.5 sacks, 0 solo tackles, 3 asst. tackle

Something tells me he will not be the real deal against NFL defenses.

Critics point to the fact that 13½ of Williams' 14½ sacks last season came in the Wolfpack's final seven games and wonder about his consistency. Williams offered an interesting explanation for that. It took him four games to figure out how to better deal with cut blocks. Instead of wasting time pushing down with both hands on blockers' shoulder pads and stepping around the block the way linemen are taught, Williams learned how to handle blockers with one hand or just hurdle them. He had three sacks in NC State's fifth game, against Wake Forest.

A longtime defensive line coach says that on film, Williams appears to be playing a bit "cautious." Williams concurred with the observation. At NC State, the ends' first responsibility was outside containment (bootlegs, reverses) and at one point they weren't even allowed to take an inside rush. That discipline might give the impression that Williams was taking plays off. "I don't feel like my play changed from the beginning of the season to the end of the season," he said. "Maybe my numbers were different, but I ran the same way."

do the stats come with all the other information?

like:
how many plays was he in for?
what was his role for the plays he was in?
was he doubled or chipped often?
what position was he playing (since he does play all dline positions)?

basically stats can be skewed many ways, but for right now ive taken my worries and handed them to the new coaching staff. im trusting them and their decisions. personally i love the pick and if the coaching staff thinks he was the best choice - now its time to get the draft wrapped up and see some competition on the field.

This answers the only knock on the guy that I've heard yet. Can't say I buy into the criticism. Love the new sig, Kaiser.

This doesn't make me feel a bit better. First of how long has been playing DE and he didn't know how to deal with a cut block? Makes me wonder about his coaching at NC St....and then it takes him four games to figure out what they are telling him to do. Sounds kinda slow to me. And 3 sacks against a powerhouse Wake teams doesn't exactly excite me either.

thank you KT for some backup. im getting a bit dazed over here with all the hate on the boards right now (lack of sleep as well)

I hate this pick but its not because of Bush or Young. Its because of how bad the offensive line is and has been. How it can't protect David Carr and how after 4 years i can't tell if you Carr is a good or bad quarterback.

I think this pick is a waste of money and resouces could have been better allocated. Why then not trade this pick to the Jets...there are just so many flaws in this pick i cant' even count them.

We'll see how it all shakes out but this is just extremely frustrating, when i sit home each week see the same thing problem. David Carr on the turf and the Defensive on the field for 45 minutes .

On second thought, maybe we do need defensive players. after all they are the only unit on the field.

Bush, Leinart, Young, pretty much everyone had off games. Every prospect has some kind of knock. If the only thing you can come up with against Williams is "he didn't start racking up the sacks until the last 7 games", then I feel great about the pick. Am I the only one who thinks 13 sacks in 7 games is a pretty sick stat?

Thankfully Mario won out as the Mario fans are very gracious as compared to the others. We will leave the light on for all of the Bush and VY fans as you get the emotion out.

Kinda like the way Jason Babin is doing now! Correct?

I saw on NFL Network last night that he even admitted to "taking plays off" to protect his draft stock. Why admit that?

I don't get the folks who can't seem to answer.....

Did you forget our two televised games last year?

We gave up over 200 years in one and over 150 in another.

Our rushing D was terrible. We gave up over 25 points per game.

The D was in MUCH WORSE shape than the Offense.

The draft is loaded with good Tackles which with Kubiak having influence will be taken care of earlier than later I believe.
