Kaepernick finished with 49's?

I don't suppose we could get him?

I doubt anyone here would want him, myself included. But then, Rick Smith & Co. out-vote all of us. Yuck, what a scary thought where this issue is concerned.

No way. It's time Houston gets a top of the line QB or prospect. I've had enough with the Schaub's, the Kaepernik's, and the Fitz's of the NFL (though, I thought Schaub would be better than he was).

Well, he was until he got Haynesworthed.

Given the current situation in Dallas regarding the QB it would not surprise me if???
Jones took a chance on Kaepernick as a backup next year, unless there are other plans
to try and snag Stafford early

But seriously though, I was watching NFL network earlier this morning, and looking at stats alone, Kaepernick had pretty impressive stats up until the end of last season. As of right now I am grouping Kaepernick with RG3, would have to build an offense to suit him, has the physical ability, just not quite sure about mental stability with either.

I've watched a lot of Kaepernick games, and I must say he's one of the dumbest QBs in the league. No Thanks! He may succeed if you really stupify the offense, but that's not what BOB wants to do. I'd prefer Stafford.

I don't he twinkles OB eyes IMO obrein likes QB's Like Mallett Hoyer Weeden and TJ yates QB's like Matt ryan Pretty much in terms of frame and size and all that other stuff

I look forward to the tweet from Jerry Jones reading "Colin Kaepernick is "a thing of beauty throwing the football. Frankly, you won't see a more gifted passer."

Kaepernick's a scrub...Anybody who wants him at this point, wants him as a change of pace/wrinkle type player in the red zone, not as a full time starting qb.

It's JMO, but the impression I get from Kaepernick is a guy with great physical skills but not much between the ears. O'Brien seems to prefer a very intelligent QB for his complicated system because he seems to be dumbing it down whenever backups have to take over. Finding a guy that's both physically and mentally gifted as well as mature and available ain't easy in the NFL.

Rumor was that we asked on the availability of Peyton Manning & Collin Kaepernick this past offseason.

The thing about rumors, both good and bad, is that anyone can start one and any of them, credible or not, can grow legs to the point they are considered presumed true.

I actually started one myself in a baseball forum about ten years ago to see how far it would go before anybody even considered whether there was any credibility to the source - me. I heard it repeated at least a dozen times on three boards, but the player was injured before it spread further.

I think it was Berkman for Peavy and Peavy got injured.

I think Kaepernick could do alright in Kubiak's system with all the bootlegs and lack of options available for QBs at the line of scrimmage. He has a very limited skill-set, and he's not going to be a traditional pocket passer that has a deep read of defenses and can pick you apart with his arm from the pocket. But, under the right circumstances - i.e. Kubiak's play action run oriented offense - he could still have some game left in him.

Kaepernick was okay in SF when Harbaugh was pulling his strings the first few years. However, the 49ers got rid of Harbaugh and brought in an incompetent regime that put the entire offense on Kap's shoulders and he has crumbled. The physical tools are there. The mental tools are not. He needs a coach that can guide him. His only shot is to get picked up by an Andy Reid or Mike McCarthy who can manage him and game plan to his strengths and hide his weaknesses.

Harbaugh was that guy. The jury is still out on O'Brien being that guy. If you think OB is a QB Guru then you bring in Kap and see what OB can do with him. If you don't believe that then don't don't waste your time.

Kaep has gotten worse every year in the league including under Harbaugh.

Maybe. But Kaepernick's regression may have turned them off.

Like WolverineFan said, Kaepernick was part of a team that made it to the Super Bowl. The tools are there. The question is how much can OB get out of him.

Bringing in Kaepernick does not take us out of the first round QB sweepstakes. It just allows us to act less out of desperation; both in the selection & development of another QB.

Of course if they feel Hoyer can keep us in contention, because that's where we need to be (the whole team learning, getting better, not waiting for the QB) then Kaepernick's not needed.

I want to replace Hoyer, the place holder, & I'd rather do that with Kaepernick than Brandon Weeden.

Yes he did. But even despite his regression, under Harbaugh he still hovered around average or above average. Under Tomsula he was bottom of the league and got benched.

Now that begs the question whether it was just continued regression or a combination of regression and coaching. That's impossible to say although I think Harbaugh's history with QB's should lead one to believe the latter. His play last year wasn't great but he was still 20th in Rating and 14th in QBR. Under the new regime he's 28th in Rating and 26th in QBR. The regression accelerated this year and it's my belief that it has done so because he no longer has a good QB coach managing him.

Regardless, as I stated in my OP, I wouldn't even consider touching him unless I had a guy like Reid or McCarthy who has a history of getting the most out of his QB's.

I think Hoyer can match and maybe exceed Kaepernick, at a far lower cost.

I think Kaepernick was pulled because the team wanted to get the bubble wrap out to avoid any injury chances to setup a trade in the offseason.
I thought it was to increase their chances for the #1 overall pick?

Yes, I believe kap, is done in San Francisco. Kap is nothing more than a serviceable back up, in the NFL. He is a one ready QB, who cannot read a defense. Kap came from a horrible system from Nevada, easy playbook took my son on day to learn it. Any playbook that is complicated makes it difficult for Kap to learn. The niners even dummy downed the playbook for Kap this year, and out in plays that suited him and his abilities, and he still failed. Going to be interesting to see what happens after this season for Kap.

won't happen Jerruh has a hard on for Johnny Football right now and is more likely
to try and get him than anyone else who could actually get this team over the hump
