WWJD said:The Cowboys had a lousy draft with this happening. He's out and the OL guy is out for the year. Lousy.
They got an extra first round pick for this year from the Bills and they probably figured that with the Patriots, Jets, and the Dolphins with Ricky Williams in the division the Bills wont have that great of a record and it might be a really high one...texan279 said:I am still wondering why Dallas traded down and passed up the chance to draft one of the other RB's that went before Jones...
Robinson and Babin were both first round draft picks that are filling "need" positions. Does Dallas have any players from that draft that fit this description? Most thought Jones was expected to take over the starting role as a 2nd rounder but then we signed Eddie George. So his (as our other draft picks) role became one of depth.WWJD said:I'd love to know what rookie they drafted that is making an impact this year...the Texans drafted Babin and Robinson and they're both playing. I don't see that with the Cowboys. Jones is out, the offensive lineman is out from USC and who else is there? I'm not up on all that but it seems from my vantage point that they right now are getting nothing out of this draft for the year.
The extra pick from Buffalo may turn out to be the smartest thing the Cowboys did the entire draft.

Huge said:$2.2 million ($660,000 base + $1.54 million bonus). But I've already stated my opinion of George coming to Dallas in the other thread (against it).
As for Emmitt, several teams offered him the vet. minimum. Yet he signed with Arizona for a fat contract. Do you think he would've re-signed with Dallas had they offered a bit more than the vet. minimum? I don't. And at that point, it made no sense to re-sign him for anything more.
I think it is a little unfair to compare the two right now saying that Jackson hasnt had a chance to be the featured back yet. I think we will get a better picture on who got the better back/deal at the end of next year...Huge said:Julius Jones - 98 carries, 445 yards (4.5 avg) 5 TDs
Steven Jackson - 100 carries, 496 yards (5.0 avg), 2 TDs
And we got a 1st round pick. I'll take it.

I've been waiting for you HUGE to say something, all I can say is what took you so long...............exactly! my congrats & what a comeback by the Cowboys. Say what other team came back on those Seahawks late in a game this year..........thats right the Rams with Steven Jackson. Gee there sure are a lot of similarities (2 carries difference, 51 yards and a couple TD'S).
Really I'm happy to see Jones healthy & running well that means there is absolutly no need on the part of the Cowboys to draft a RB, hence one less team the Texans need to worry about if they decide to go that direction 1st or 2nd round.
Its also a positive for Texas with the Cowboys winning again, keep the Tuna on the hook for as long as possible, I can't wait to see if y'all make the playoffs again & who the two # 1 draft picks will be. Any ideas?
One word: Wow.It's taken Cowboys rookie RB Julius Jones four NFL games to match several accomplishments that Emmitt Smith needed 13 years to pile up.
Jones in one month has as many games with 198 or more rushing yards as Smith had in 13 years in Dallas. Jones also has as many two-game spans with 345 or more yards in one month as Smith had in 218 games with the Cowboys. In Smith's first 5 1/2 years in the NFL, he had consecutive 150-yard games once. Two starts into his career, Jones already has consecutive 150-yard games.
Four games into his career, Smith had 104 rushing yards and one touchdown. Four games into his career, Jones has 445 rushing yards and five touchdowns. Jones has more yards in his last three games (429) than Eddie George has in 12 games this season (424).
texan279 said:I am not trying to take away anything from Julius Jones because I think he is an awesome RB, but what kind of O line did Emmitt Smith have in front of him early in his career? Was it similar to what Jones has now?
WWJD said:I think both Flozell Adams and Larry Allen are quality O linemen. Penalty prone , particularly Adams but quality. Some of the holes JJ had to run thru on MNF were huge.
He does remind me of Curtis Martin. Hope he can have a great career like Curtis. JJ sure is quick.
he was suspended for academics during the irish's big 1st season under willingham, then he came back last year, put up a few 200 yard games and the rest is history.HowBoutThemCowboys! said:Yeah, where was Jones in college? I barely heard anything about him at ND.
