Jorvorskie Lane

Scooter

Funky
ok, i whiffed entirely it seems on dwayne slay, am i about to do it again with jorvorskie lane??? it annoys me to no end that combine stats mean more than game play. the kid produces points, and as a 19 year old sophmore, has impressed me more than once with his patience. we know he doesnt break poor "college arm tackles", he flattens whatever's in his path. he's going to keep getting better (and possibly bigger ... which is scary), but will he continue on his pace to translate in this era's jerome bettis ... 3.5 yards per carry, EVERY carry? or will he have to learn how to play defensive end because of our over emphasis on 40 times?

opinions?

give me a year and i'll get back to you. Its hard to tell how much a college guy can translate into the NFL or if he will. I dont see him being as effectvie in the NFL becuase of the tremendous difference in player speed (which is why 40 times are weighted so heaviliy). Like i said, i'd give him another year to figure out what he is.

He's so much bigger than the majority of the Dline's in college. In Pro he won't be, he will be going up against Mario Williams and Julius Peppers, Henderson, etc...

yea he is a stud in college but I dont see him succeeding in the NFL either. he looks a lot like that stud FB they had a while back who couldnt make it in the NFL

lets see what he does against some upper level teams instead of the cupcakes he's been running against. I dont see this guy as a pro player. Tires easily and does not appear to be reel fast.

If you are referring to Tombs (sp), I think what held him back was more related to character issues. I beleive he got himself in a little trouble.

He's an unitentional Ron Dayne. I seriously doubt he does anything in the pros, his 40 time will knock him down to an UDFA.

Yea i remember thinking Tombs was going to go to the NFL doing something, but I never saw him play in the NFL.

He also showed up to the pro tryouts overweight and had apparently not been working out or preparing for them at all...dumb move.. I enjoyed watching him play at atm, he would carry everyone at least 10yds untill he got tackled.

I think he's as big or even bigger than Ron Dayne in college. Look at how that turned out...

If and when he gets to the NFL though, I'm sure he'll be required to slim down some. He's got power, I don't know how much speed though.

Im sorry, theres no way he was better than Dayne in college. Hate on him as a pro player, but dont question what he did in college which is set the NCAA career record for rushing yards.

I said bigger. He's no where close to being Ron Dayne in the college ranks. He might be able to rush like him his senior year if he keeps improving, but even then he'd have a hard time matching up.

My bad, read that wrong. For some reason i thought I saw the word better in there for some reason. Anyways, I still question Lane and really dont think he'll do much. He's big, but thats all he has. FBs will be running faster 40 times than him. If you want a power RB, look no further than Brian Leonard. Fast as a RB, Power of a FB, and just athletic as can be.

Jorvorskie Lane!!! A thread for the J-Train! SWEET!

I love the guy but I can't help but to agree with the general concensus here. He could either lose weight and try to get some more speed, or he could gain some more muscle and come in like Jerome Bettis. Either way I think he has as good a chance as any in his position to succeed.... he is doing EXTREMELY well for us Aggies this year.

He is the Juggernaut! 16 TDs and counting!

That's not "patience" you're seeing. It just takes Lane a little longer to get to the hole. Haha.

He's not in the same mold as Jerome Bettis. Despite his size, Bettis had good feet. Lane is closer to Iron Head Heyward.

Coming out of high school, he was listed at 240. 2 years later, he's gained 34 lbs. And he's only 19. How much is he going to weight at 25? Does he have the discipline to maintain/drop weight if need be? Time will tell.

Next time they are on tv, watch the J-Trains footwork, the guy does have some pretty good moves for a running back of his size. He's a guy we'll have to wait and see.

But on another note, keep your eyes on Michael Goodsoon (#3 running back, FR), that guy can be something great.

P.S. Jamaal Toombs was set to go into the NFL but he had some insane amounts of off field problems (9 kids with 9 different girls if I remember right) and he never made it. He was playing arena ball for the Austin or Dallas team not too long ago.

I know I might get bashed for asking this but does Micahel Goodson have the potentail to become a Reggie Bush sort of player? I know for sure he has that sort of speed and just seeing some of the plays he's already made, he has a really bright future. A&M does have one of the ultimate Thunder and Lighting Combos in Lane and Goodson

I like your style!

Personally I do not see it out of Goodson, but I do agree that they make a good combo. The J-Train pretty much obliterates defenders while Goodson has decent agility and speed so that he can take runs to the outside and add another aspect to the game.

I love watching these guys play and I can't wait til they are home again!

Goodson is from my HS..2 years behind me. I still haven't seen an A&M game though. I need to start paying attention to things like TV schedules...Sundays at noon has been the only thing relevant to me for the past 2 months.

I don't know about pro potential...

I mean, he's successful and feared in college, but there's no secret to him. He's just a really fat guy who pushes guys around. He plows over college-sized linemen and is hard to bring down. He's a big, fat, guy. I don't mean that as an insult to him, but that's what he is.

If he wants to play in the NFL, he'll have to get into better shape, and I don't know if he can do it.

Lane is a lot better than Toombs was. He plays with a lot more effort than Toombs did, and his numbers are a ton better. He's also got pretty good quickness and footwork for his size. I'm not sure if he can be a feature back in the NFL, but I think he could be a good change of pace guy, sort of like Brandon Jacobs for the Giants this year.

Dude was sick in HS. Played my school and ran us into the ground. fast as all get out. He'll be an excellent 1,2 w/ the j-train when he gets some experiance under his belt. thunder and lightning.

Too bad Klein Collins had a dumbass coach and only gave Goodson the ball 10 times per game. He averaged like 11 yds per carry.

I was on the same high school team as him & we all knew he was the best player on the field no matter who we played. Too bad he already had his free ride to college so he had nothin to prove.

He worked his ass off to get to the top, but once he got there he stopped. I dont know if he is trying hard again, but with the work ethic he had during his senior year in high school, I wouldnt be suprised if it doesnt work out for him.

Yea...I never really cared to much for the football coach. I never played football but he was also athletic director so he kind of screwed over the rest of the sports programs as well (four tennis coaches in four years, although I can only blame him for the last 3).

That is what I see. He runs hard but I don't think he is quick enough to be a success in the NFL other than maybe a #3 back used for short yardage.

Yeah well, when the combine stuff said that Wand was a little weak up top, that should of sent out warning bells off. Lane will be drafted. He is not as nifty footed as Bettis. When Bettis was at ND he made people miss with his foot work. He reminded me a lot of Alonzo Hightsmith. Who's cousin at LSU is on my radar. He's a battering ram no doubt. My book says someone will take a shot at him day two. A Brandon Jackobs guy will always be needed for the Marshawn Lynches of the NFL world.
