What do you guys think of 1st time starter Jonathan Owens. Does he look like a starter to you?
3rd & 16 and Owens blows coverage on a 35 yard play? That hurt.He's a solid player.
Wont hurt you.
He's a young guy making his 3rd start. Guys with this little experience are bound to make mistakes. Considering this I think he's done a good job.3rd & 16 and Owens blows coverage on a 35 yard play? That hurt.

All pro Bayrd blew a coverage that cost the Titans a TD tonight. It happens.
I agree with that. All I'm saying is that Owens is not the long-term answer. BTW, Owens is 27 and becomes a FA next offseason.I’d rather Owens get reps so the team can see if he continues to improve than give those reps to Eric Murray.
Ok... let's not get crazy. No one is talking about Murray getting more reps.I’d rather Owens get reps so the team can see if he continues to improve than give those reps to Eric Murray.
idkn and it's still an early season frankly Texans are tied 2nd place with Colts in division hehe the jags are 1-1 in first. Win the division or wild card your in the playoffs no? Hope they beat the Bears I want them to prove the naysayers wrong that they would lose the first 4 games. There is time and room to continue evaluate the players while waiting for the physical fit arrivals from off the active roster.Ok... let's not get crazy. I'm just waiting for JO to make a play. I heard before the game that he was leading the NFL in tackles. & I was remembering I don't remember any of those tackles. I'm pulling for him.
Any memorable plays in all that?So far Owens has:
17 solo tackles
8 assisted tackles
1 PD

When your top tackler, and 5 of the top 7, are in the secondary, it's not a good sign.So far Owens has:

I assumed Pitre would lead the team in tackles as more of a box safety cleaning up the LB’s mess. But I am disappointed that both safeties are in the mix for that tackle. When your top tackler, and 5 of the top 7, are in the secondary, it's not a good sign.

kinda how i feel. He's young..that 3rd & 16 was not optimal...but like all of our secondary guys he's gonna make some mistakes. What makes great secondary's is they have to learn to play with and off each other in zones. Once he Stingley and Pitre learn the system and learn how to play off each other, they should get better. Right now, none of these guys know how to carry & recieve guys into their zones..which is critical for optimal zone defense play. He's a solid player.
Wont hurt you.
Yes, I assumed subpar LB play would lead to Pitre getting more tackles. Not both safeties. The missed ones?
A little overrated but still displays exceptional skills on the field. So many great safeties in the league, I think he’s bottom 5 of the starting 32. Just isn’t consistentWhat do you guys think of 1st time starter Jonathan Owens. Does he look like a starter to you?
He was bad todayI'm undecided if he was bad today - missed a couple of tackles I can remember, but probably gassed from cleaning up running backs that our DL and linebackers are ole'ing into the secondary without slowing them down.
While that is bad, and he needs to improve on the tackling, I blame our LBs for this. Those guys constantly run themselves out of the play leaving these RBs with a full head of steam and plenty of space to make guys in the secondary missIn the top 12 for missed tackles

exactly...made up stat....interesting to see that KGH is #11 on that same list. How do they interpret who has most tackles made to who has most missed tackles?
what's stranger is those stats are the same as official tackles made stats and the graphs even say made tackles... only their disclaimer of interpreted as missed tackles mentions missed anywhereexactly...made up stat....interesting to see that KGH is #11 on that same list.
If Tashaun Gipson is still starting for someone Owens canMy questions. Is Jonathan Owens a starting safety on any other team besides the Texans? Exactly what are his strengths?
Gipson was actually quite good. I never figured out why BOB cut him.If Tashaun Gipson is still starting for someone Owens can

He was the key missing piece in that playoff loss against the Chiefs.Gipson was actually quite good. I never figured out why BOB cut him.
The only season that I can remember under BOB when they had somebody that could cover TE's.He was the key missing piece in that playoff loss against the Chiefs.
He was the man who would have covered Kelce in that game. Because we had no answer for Kelce, it opened up everything else Mahomes was looking at too.
There were some rumblings the next season about a bad teammate amongst the DBs. I wondered if it was Gipson. But at that time the team got worse by cutting him.
Yeah that was a terrible cut but like someone up top said injuries played a part. The only season that I can remember under BOB when they had somebody that could cover TE's.
Lets cut that guy. Genius level thinking. LMAO
JO hasn't been terrible against the pass. He's struggling with his ability to get people on the ground.I’m just now watching the Jags game again.
Not to bag on JO (I know I started this thread to do just that) but damn. The first big run by Etiene Stingley is in the backfield when the ball is snapped. He recognized it was a run. He chooses to stay on the QB. Gets a good hit on him. But TLaw rightly gives the ball to the RB.
Stingley has the edge, he chose to play the QB in the RPO Etienne is loose. JO comes down takes a very bad angle. Could have stopped the run at a 6 yard gain but gives up 20+
The next play is a pass. Wallow gets a good drop. Watching the QBs eyes he is in the throwing lane forcing TLaw to throw the ball higher than he wants, out of reach of his receiver.
JO drops too deep & can’t make a play on the ball. I mean he dives at it but isn’t really close to catching the ball.
I’m just saying, two opportunities to make a play. Two fails. I’m just waiting for this guy to make a play
He hasn't been good either. I believe there have been a number of blown assignments though that could be because it's an entirely new secondary working trying to work together in Lovie's zoneJO hasn't been terrible against the pass. He's struggling with his ability to get people on the ground.
2 promising rookies and 2 bargain basement FAs. The unit is showing potential but it’s going to have its struggles. Nelson has been a pleasant addition but I don’t doubt we’ll see his limitations as the season wears on, especially if Stingley can establish himself as a star instead of the rookie that every decent QB is going to test out.He hasn't been good either.
