JJ Moses Released

clearlaketaekwondo said:
So this afternoon, I told my son that the Texans had released JJ. He was absoutely devastated. He cried for ten minutes before I calmed him down.

It is easy for us grown ups to criticize and compare to this possibility or that. He could have been this or that. I wish we had so and so in his place or his slot will go to so and so. I wish we kept him... He is glad we didn't... Nothing wrong with that for grown ups to debate...

A child's view of the game is much more pure. He simply loves the Texans and they are the best in his mind. To my son, JJ was his friend. To my son, he lost a friend and hero that was nice to him.

I like the game better through my son's eyes. He goes into every game excited and thrilled. Convinced his Texans will win. He cheers like a madman for every play -- offense - defense - special teams. He wears his little Texans Uniform and Jersey to every game complete with helmet and shoulder pads.

His big regret was that they never sold JJ Moses Jerseys. He really wanted one.

JJ said to him, "Gotta cheer for the little guys..., you can make it, just keep trying..."

My son would scream at the games, "Go JJ, Go JJ..." When he got tackled my son would yell, "Try again next time, you'll get 'em"

Just some thoughts through the perspective of a child.

Any that's why some of us just shake our heads when they say its only a business........................

...Now, a few years later, he is now playing youth football.... his position, quarterback.
:offtopic

I'm assuming from your username that you are from Clear Lake. Does your son play for a TIFI youth team? There are a couple in the CL area. The Clear Lake Space Raiders & the NASA Falcons are both TIFI teams. I was just wondering because I coach for another TIFI team in Pasadena, the Bears. As a matter of fact, I believe our 1st game this upcoming season is vs. the Space Raiders ... Great story.

His mom is a friend of mine. I used to copy his photos off the internet for her, and give them to her at work. I'll copy this thread, minus the expletives. :) I think he'll appreciate your thoughts.

Wow. I'm gone for a week, and all sorts of things happen. JJ getting released, Joppru getting hurt again, picking up Rivers, etc. I was really looking forward to seeing the competition for the KR and PR duties during TC and the Preseason with JJ being part of it, but I guess I'll just have to deal with watching PB, Mathis, Hollings, Starling, and Swinton duke it out.

Yes.

Everyone but JJ. The guy would fumble the punts WAY MORE often then he does in real life.

He ROCKED in ESPN2K5.

I'll miss him on the field and on my PS/2.

Some of my best player pics I took are of him...

In this era of free agency, it's so hard to have a team identity, which is something I really value. JJ Moses was so much a part of the Texans' spirit.

He was also solid and dependable, qualities I value greatly as well. I think a fumbled punt is so much more disasterous for a team than a return for a TD is great.

I will miss JJ on Sundays. I will miss 70,000 people yelling his name every time he touches the ball.

We'll hardly even recognize this team come opening day - with so many roster changes.

Good luck, JJ. We'll miss you. Thanks for everything. :)

A fumbled punt is usually a touchdown for the other team. 7 points down. A touchdown is 7 points up. Seems to me they cancel each other.

However, emotionally a touchdown is great for you, but I don't think damages the other team's morale that much. But a fumbled punt is really frustrating. Watch the home crowd go quiet after a fumbled punt, if we fumble it. It just takes the noise right out of the stadium.

A fumbled punt is not always a touchdown and it is not always even a field goal.
They dont even out.
Taking the noise out of the stadium??? The team that scores the most wins... Period

Oh, I didn't know they still played by that rule. Thanks for letting me know. The most points, I'll write that down...

lets not let homerism get to us... he had a big heart, and i respect him for what he did here... but we didn't lose a great return man... he never came close to breaking one in 2 years here

hey he might not have taken it all the way but he sure as hell came close countless times, so make sure you watch games before you critique a player. the one return that i still remember was against the jets at reliant. he got us in scoring position many times we just could never take advantage of that.

good luck JJ.

Yea, and most return guys score on that one. He got ran down by a LB. Still we should've won that one though. Wasn't that DD 1st start @ RB.
