Like Corrosion and a few others, I was firmly on board with the Texans trading Watt before the trade deadline. I feel like that was the best way to maximize his trade value. Both he and Will Fuller.

I feel like the management of this team is in a state of catatonia, or plain outright cowardice to do anything. Cal came out Thursday, why? To repeat what Rootes said about Easterby. That's not what fans of a 2-7 team want to hear from the ownership. We want to hear how you're going to right the ship. We want to hear what the future plans are. We want to hear why you hired, and then fired Gaine just after Easterby came along. Who made that decision? And Cal, who made the decision to make OB GM and then fire him 4 games into the same season he was promoted, you gutless imbecile?

I didn't enjoy O'Brien as HC. I thought he was average, at best. But ownership, along with Easterby, made him the fall-guy for some of the worst decisions in the history of the NFL. My theory now is, they're going to bring in another GM to make more tough decisions (like trading Watt) that they don't have the guts to make themselves and if it goes sideways fire that that poor guy, send Jamey Rootes out again to publicly say "we made a mistake...our bad".

The ownership of this franchise is a joke and if they are up to some nefarious activities (shenanigans), I hope they do get caught and are forced to sell the team. Hopefully to someone that will want to keep the team here and operate it with the primary goal of winning a Super Bowl.

End of rant, sorry I got a bit off-topic.
No problem we all rant at times. I actually do not care why or who did what when. It might be nice if McNair would come out and tell us what his plam for the Texans future is. But I really don't even care about that. Don't tell me show me. The less you say the less chance to say something stupid. Just put the plan, if you have one, into effect. I will then decide on how you did and whether I choose to watch.

Watt HAD value to a contender in need of pass rush help as a situational pass rusher. I think he could have thrived not playing a lot of snaps as an every down player and his ego should have facilitated that if he were on a a team like the Packers, Seahawks, etc.
Steelers don't need him but I don't think they would not be interested in him. Combine with TJ and Derrick (sp) be a good story to go with a very promising season.

Watt is prime for trade. Zero dead money hit in 2021 and he's officially an UFA in 2022.
The other team will want a new contract. I know I would. So Jj will have to agree.

If we can’t trade him, would you be okay with cutting him?

or it could wind up being a late RD4 b/c the teams that could see the marketing benefits of bringing him on board would be the top tier teams.
Only one team in the league thinks this way.

Agreed

He has Janice heart. He's not going anywhere except if he wants to be traded.

The Texans are a very poorly run org, because they treat players with sentimentality instead of doing everything thing possible to put the best product on the field.
If this were the case, the Texans would've traded JJ before the deadline, for whatever they could get, because he's earned the right to request a trade and it would've been the honorable and compassionate thing to do for JJ.

They will ship him off to Green Bay before the 2021 NFL Draft for a 2nd or 3rd RD draft pick.
Why do people keep saying this? It’s a lazy take.

Watt has no connections to GB other than liking the team and being from the same state. There is no single owner to meddle and force the move for PR reasons. He’s much more likely to end up in PIT because his brothers pushing for him, but even that is unlikely.

I think one reason he didn't get traded is he went to Janice/Cal just before the deadline and told them BOB had lost the team.

Also think about the optics, Watt gets the HC fired, then asks for a trade.

In your very own words you do admit that he's a Hometown Boy. Hometown Boys sell tickets and merchandise. I expect GB, PIT and a few others to be in on a JJ trade.

We should try and make an arrangement with Pitts., Green Bay, and Chicago so that over the course of the next couple years - or however much longer before he calls it a career - Watt can fulfill every fans low hanging fruit ideas of seeing him play in the same town as his brothers and chase a ring, in his home town and chase a ring, before finishing his career playing and retiring side by side with his wife..

..would that finally scratch every last itch?

I could easily see him agreeing to finish out his career here reworking the last year of his deal and extended him at a reasonable price for a few more years b/c I think his legacy here means something to him. I could be wrong but the reason I say this is b/c I don't know if JJ's the type to try to hang on just for a ring elsewhere unless its a really good opportunity & he could be a significant contributor...like KC opportunity good. Even then, I still think it'd have to be where he's pretty much an every down guy...don't see him going somewhere and agreeing to be just a 3rd down pass rush specialist under any circumstances, I think if that was all he'd be offered he just hang em' up.

Watt is worth only a 3 or 4? I am new, what am I missing?

It's awesome that Watt is giving the team a full season....so far. He's had a decent year with the defense being really bad. It’s more than the Texans could hope for. A bigger question, do other teams see Watt for who he used to be and his declining play or a sound DE strapped to a piss-poor defense?

If only one team has interest in trading for Watt, the Texans would probably be doing good if they get a RD3 or RD4 in return.

If multiple teams have interest in Watt, the Texans might enjoy a bit of a bidding war and could get a pick as high as RD2 but bear in mind....the teams that would be bidding for Watt's services are going to be top tier which means the pick gained wouldn't be until later in the round.

What you are missing is the cap hit .... He'll account for $17.5m in cap space next year.

Add to that his health issues and overall decline and I think you'll be lucky to get a 3rd for him.

Teams just don't like to give draft picks for guys on already large contracts.

This isn't the same guy that was DPOY ....

I am sure you are correct. He still scares me.
I hope he can finish with you. All of the hurricane stuff seems (to me and I don’t live in Houston) to have cemented him there.

From listening to JJ, seems like there are still players missing practices and other unproffesional stuff
Yep looks like locker room and some players haven't been living up to a professional standard which is also on coaching/accountability or lack thereof. Man that 2:50 to 4:50 of Watts presser was amazing, I'd run through a wall for him. Stay gold ponyboy, stay gold! maxresdefault.jpg

I know it isn’t my business, but I sure would like to know which one or two or three...players that he was blasting. Sounds like some of the things I have seen on the field of players especially after getting a big contract extension that I stay on my griping soapbox topic.

Would love to know, who he was talking about. Obviously it’s someone on defense.
Could be anyone and it might even be the DC. JJ isn't known for this type thing. You know it's bad and you know he is probably done with Houston too. However, unless he retired or sits out...no move has been made to trade him yet. Unless they shopped him "hush hush" to a few teams and didn't get any good results

It was an open ended statement to the entire team.

I mean the whole team sucks at every level but qb
Ever since Warren Moon Houston has been waiting to get a really nice QB. When we do finally get one everything else falls apart. You have to ask yourself why does such NFL suckatude continue to haunt Houston NFL fans. I know we all laugh and snicker at the Astrodome and the Ancient Burial Grounds stuff, but something seems wrong with Houston NFL franchises at the cosmic level.

I prefer to think the answer is bad ownership and not a curse.

BTW, I love that Bob/Cal have to go look at the Dome every day they go to work.

I think Bob McNair thought he hit it on the cheap with OBrien coming out of Penn State rebuilding that program. It could have worked but didn't. I can get by that but hard to get by Mr. McNair or Cal after his dad's death not terminating Bill when it became obvious years ago he was not the right guy.

Banners say you need a tweak not an overhaul. OB would have been great with a good OC and GM. When Smith was here he overrode OB running to Bob McNair if he needed. Gase never had a chance to do anything really. As a GM we don't know what he did (OB that is) as signs of Easterby are showing. Who oddly is part of the reason he is gone. We may be in for a long rebuild seeing many top HC candidates and GM are no doubt going to steer away from Easterby and Cal. However if they have the same agent...don't be surprised to see that.

He already made that "we all suck" statement earlier in the year when they still had a chance to turn things around.
This statement was a statement made to speak towards his frustration with 1-2 individuals bro & it was very clear in how he said some of the things he said.

I had season tickets to the Gamblers. I still have a few of those old tickets that I never used. Can you imagine trying to run a 5 wide receiver set every single play in today's NFL? It was crazy good when it worked.
If we had a solid offensive line we might be able to do that today. Of course we would need five receivers ...

A friend of mine played for the Gamblers. I just gave him a Humidor that I forgot I had gotten 25 years ago from Charlie Tolar. They gave every team one for the Championship game. It was big and heavy.

You cannot compare this roster to those of our banner years. We definitely need an overhaul. Several of those that were on a banner roster took a step back.

I think this team will be very different because of the cap.

But, we don't need a top 10 defense to get back to winning. Yes, I want to win a Super Bowl but that's not happening in 2021.

Make the defense better, fix the run game. Should be doable for 2021. Then go from there.
